A simple job for those who travel a lot, but for those going to Europe for the first time Schengen visa application It is an extremely tedious and tedious process. Never mind the first time visitor, it's tedious and costly every time you get a visa. Visa of schengen. But unfortunately, it is also mandatory to go to Europe and see it - if you do not have a green passport.

For example, I had not been to Europe for about four years until this year just to avoid getting a Schengen visa. But when I found cheap Norway tickets, I agreed to a Schengen visa.

What is a Schengen Visa?

So, what is this Schengen visa, let's talk about it briefly. In 1995, a convention was signed between the European Union countries on the abolition of border control. The name of this contract is actually Schengen and it takes its name from a village in Luxembourg where the contract was signed.

Schengen Member States

Germany, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Croatia, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Italy, Luxembourg, Hungary, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia , Slovenia, Greece are the member states of the European Union that are members of Schengen.

In addition, although they are not members of the European Union, Switzerland, Iceland and Norway signed a special agreement with the European Union, were included in the Schengen agreement and were subject to the same practices.

Bulgaria and the Republic of Cyprus are the countries that wait in line to enter Schengen.

Schengen Visa

As citizens of the Republic of Turkey, they must obtain a visa from one of the countries included in the Schengen agreement in order to go to the countries included in Schengen. This is what we call a Schengen visa.

Schengen Visa Durations

If a Schengen visa is obtained as a touristic visa, which is the subject of our article, it provides the right to stay in the Schengen countries for a maximum of 6 days within the given period and within the last 90 months.

Schengen visa can be issued by the consulate where the application is made as single entry, double entry or multiple (multi) entry. If it is a single entry, it provides the right to enter and exit the Schengen countries only once with that visa, if it is double entry, it provides the right to enter and exit twice, and if it is multiple entry, it provides unlimited entry-exit right for the duration of the visa. When applying for a visa, I recommend that you mark multiple times in the application form. Thus, you have the chance to go to Europe more than once with the same visa, if the consulate deems it appropriate.

After you apply for the visa, preferably at the consulate of the country you are going to, the results of the visa application will be known between 4 and 10 days. Timing may vary depending on the country you are going to and the density of applications. For this reason, if it is before the holiday periods (such as New Year's Eve, semester, summer vacation..), I recommend that you make your application 1 month in advance.

Another thing to consider when applying for a Schengen visa is that your passport must be at least 6 months old before it expires. If your passport is about to expire, you must renew it before applying for a visa. Passport application You can also check out my article about it.

From which country should I apply for a Schengen Visa?

In order to obtain a Schengen visa, theoretically, it is sufficient to apply to the consulate of any Schengen country and obtain a visa. However, the relevant country or the passport control officer has the authority not to admit you to the country. Therefore, it is recommended that you apply for the visa from the country you plan to go to. Also, make sure to enter the country you obtained the visa from during the visa period.

There are also different urban legends: Germany does not give visas to Turks, Italy gives a very short visa, France gives visas to each applicant for 6 months... My experience is that the situation is different for everyone. Also, the political conditions at the time of your application seriously affect the results.

I went to Italy 3-4 times, got a visa 2 times. They gave 10 days for both visas, on the other hand, a friend of mine who got Schengen for the first time got a 3 months visa in his first application from Italy. I got a 2 month visa from France 3 or 6 times in a row, another friend's application was refused despite no serious reason. I can only say that if you repeatedly get a Schengen visa from the same country and enter that country during the visa period, it has a positive effect.

I got my latest schengen visa from Greece and Greece was giving everyone a visa for at least 6 months “from what I heard”. Moreover, I was invited by the Greek Tourism Office as a travel blogger and as a result of my application with this invitation letter, he granted a visa for 3 months. I was disappointed when I raised my expectations 🙁

You prepare your documents completely, if you want the visa for a long time, add it as an extra petition, if possible, and then leave it to the consulate.

Where to Apply for a Schengen Visa?

After choosing the country to apply Visa applications from the website of the Ministry of Foreign AffairsBe sure to check it out. That way, you won't concede a last-minute goal.

The place and form of application in each country may be different from each other. Now, many country consulates work with intermediary institutions, so you cannot go and say that I came to the consulate, you want a visa. For this reason, be sure to read the applications specific to the country you are applying for. Also, get information about the place and method of application from the consulate of that country (website or by phone).

For example, if you are going to get Schengen from Greece, From the website of the Greek Consulate See application requirements. Greece works with different intermediary institutions in Istanbul and Ankara. Processes such as making an appointment with intermediary institutions may differ for each country or intermediary institution, it is useful to pay attention.

If you wish, you can deal with this process yourself or you can get service from one of the companies that provide visa intermediation for a fee. The company I work for comes from time to time, takes the documents from me, sends them to the intermediary institution or the consulate and delivers them to me as a result of the visa. If you work hard like me, it is a life saver.

Required Documents for Schengen Tourist Visa Application

  • Visa application form: Each country has its own visa application form. This form can be found on the websites of consulates or brokerage firms. It is very critical to fill out the form completely and accurately.
  • Passport: A valid passport with at least two blank visa pages, obtained within the last 10 years, and valid for at least 6 months after the requested visa expiry date. If you already have passports, you can add these passports to your application.
  • Photocopy of the passaport: Photocopies of 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and last pages of valid old type (dark blue) passports. For new type passports, only the photocopy of the page on which the identity information is written is required. If you have received a Schengen visa before, include a photocopy of the pages containing that visa in your application.
  • Photo: 2 recent biometric photos
  • Travel insurance: You need to add a travel health insurance of 30.000 Euro or $50.000 to your application, which is valid to cover your entire travel time in the Schengen area. If you have a multiple-entry visa, you must have travel insurance to cover your first trip as a minimum. I get travel insurance annually and do not deal with the insurance business again every time.

If you are an employee;

  • employer letter: A letter written on company letterhead confirming the person's position, starting date, salary, time off, and that he will continue to work on his return;

  • Personal bank passbooks for the last 3 months. If received as a statement, it must be stamped and signed by the bank;
  • Your assets in Turkey or Europe (copy of title deeds).

If you will travel by plane;

  • Round-trip flight ticket reservation (original ticket can be requested);
  • If traveling by tour, the tour program.

Hotel

  • Accommodation reservations (Document showing hotel reservation)

If you are going with your own vehicle;

  • Driver's license (The driver's license must be international);
  • vehicle license;
  • Green insurance (mandatory)
  • The article about the planned trip;

If the vehicle belongs to a third party (family, friend or company etc.) authorization letter from the vehicle owner is added to the above documents.

It is worth mentioning again, if your documents are missing, you are in big trouble.

Things to Consider When Applying for a Schengen Visa

  • Make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months.
  • Make your application 1 month before departure so that you do not experience last-minute stress.
  • Make sure your passport is not torn or worn. Even if you get a visa, you can be turned away from the border, no need to take risks.
  • Make sure that all the documents required for the application are complete when making your application.

Stay on track.

  1. hello, we took schengen from germany in 2016 and went to germany. This year we bought Schengen from Greece. But our plan has changed. And we want to go to Germany. If we enter and exit Greece by road on our visa start date and then return to Istanbul and go to Germany by plane, will they create a problem for us at the door? If you say they will, can we apply for Schengen in Germany while we already have a valid Greek Schengen in our passport?

    • I enter different countries with the Schengen visas I have obtained from different countries, there is no problem.

  2. hello, it was 2012, thanks to my relatives, I got a germany visa by invitation, I went for 30 days, I came and now, if I apply for a Schengen visa, I wonder if the chance of getting a visa will increase?

  4. hello, is there a certain limit for schengen visa application, for example, how many times we get a visa rejection, we will be blacklisted or is there such a thing as a black list, thank you.

    • I have no experience with this as I have never been rejected before. It may be more accurate to ask one of the companies that provide visa services.

  5. Hello, I bought my flight ticket from Sweden as a round trip and return, but there is no Sweden in my travel plan. I will enter Sweden immediately and go to Norway with an Interrail ticket for 11 days. I only bought it from Stockholm because the flight ticket is cheap. Where should I apply for a visa from which country now? According to vfs global, I have to apply from norway, according to other companies from Sweden. Sweden for some, Norway for others. I'm confused about what

    • Hello,

      If your flight ticket is from Sweden, I suggest you apply from Sweden, but it is useful to check if Sweden is included in Schengen. To apply for a visa, it is sufficient to book a temporary hotel in Sweden. Have a nice trip in advance.

  6. hello dear lady

    • For your rejected applications, a reason must be specified, so it would be beneficial for you to make a new application.

  8. Hello, I got a visa appointment for France, I am a senior university student, so I had an invitation to go to my uncle in France. My question is, can we make two markings in the travel purpose part of the visa application form, for example, for both family visit and touristic purposes.

  9. Hello, my problem is, I applied for a Greek visa. By the way, my Greek visa will be my 4th purchase. You have to first enter and exit the country where you got a Schengen visa. I want to go to Athens when my visa comes. I want to move from Athens to Germany. Do I have a problem at the customs, you entered the country you got a visa from, but you came to Germany without leaving Turkey, etc. Note: every time I got a Greek visa, I went in and out to go to Germany. Is it okay if I go directly from Athens this time? Thank you in advance for the information you provide.

  10. Hello, I got a swedish visa for a month with an invitation. If we want to go to Germany by car for 4 4 5 days while I am there, can I pass?

    • If your visa is multiple entry, you can easily pass. But if it is a single entry, you cannot pass, you have to check it once.

  11. Hello,
    I got a Schengen visa 3 times through Germany, where I went for business before, and the last one I got was for 1 year. I'm getting a visa because the company doesn't work abroad. Now I will try to get a visa myself, do you think, I will send my invitation to my relatives from Germany or should I apply for a travel visa myself?

    • I've never had a visa by invitation, so I don't want to mislead you.
      You can apply with a tourist visa, I don't think it will be a problem.
      Good luck with.

  12. hello dear lady
    I applied for Schengen to Germany, the visa was approved, I will go in a month, I hope. But during this time, I have a situation to leave my current job and start another job, is there any problem in this regard?

  13. Hello, I will go to Malta with a tour for 2 days. The brokerage house recommended that I get a visa to France and go to Malta because my Malta visa was issued in 15 working days and one of my documents was missing. Do you think I have a problem? Is there a situation like they don't take it to the country? How do I skip this? What if I get a visa for 5 days and make a hotel reservation from France for 3 days? Do they allow Malta pass?

    • It is difficult to comment on this, as there has been a change in attitude towards Turkey. Under normal circumstances, there is no problem. You can enter any Schengen country with a French visa.

  14. I applied for norway, it was rejected, that's why they had doubts. I might not go back to turkey, what a ridiculous logic my girlfriend presented all the guarantees to them in the paperwork and it was rejected.

    • Currently, I am reading news that some Schengen countries have suspended visas to Turkey. The reason is unfortunately the situation of our country in general.

  15. My question is, I got the Schengen visa, starting and ending dates, there is no problem at the moment. I am not going to enter France, but I am wondering if any other documents are required while entering during the checks.
    Thanks in advance

    • When checking in, they may ask why you came, where you will stay and when your return is. If you have printouts such as hotel reservations and flight tickets, you can easily pass. Sometimes they may not ask at all, luckily 🙂

  16. Thanks for information:)

  19. Hello,
    Next summer, our school will organize a European tour and the visa will be obtained through France, but my relatives in Sweden invited me to Sweden, I have to go to Sweden before the tour. I want to do both. Can I go to Sweden with this France tour visa or can I get the visa from Sweden and join the tour or do I need to get a separate visa for both?
    Thank you.

    • Sweden is quite comfortable in these matters. By the way, if you make the flight to Basel, there are 3 gates at Basel airport and one of them is France, you can leave the French gate and print a stamp.
