UPDATE ON EGYPT VISA DATED 02.MAY.2023

As of 02 May 2023, with the statement made on the Twitter account of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Turkish citizens will be able to enter Egypt with a gate visa without any prior application.

Within the scope of application; Turkish Citizens will be able to enter the Sinai Peninsula without a visa for 15 days, and to other regions in Egypt with a gate visa for 25 USD.

Does Egypt Require Visa From Turkish Citizens?

As of the end of March 2023, Egypt requires visas from Turkish citizens. I recommend submitting your visa application 3-4 months before your travel date because the process takes so long. However, there are some exceptions to the Egyptian visa application.;

Turkish citizens under the age of 18 and over the age of 45 can enter Egypt with a gate visa. However, since this process takes a long time at the gate, you can get the gate visa from the Egyptian Consulates in Turkey. It can be received in 3 days.

From April 1, 2022, Egypt allowed Turkish Citizens to enter the Sinai Peninsula with a free gate visa. All you have to do for a gate visa is to fill out the form given to you on the plane. According to the news published in Egyptian newspapers at the end of March 2023, Egyptian Turkish Citizens will be able to enter all of Egypt only with a door visa, but no official statement has been made yet. The Story of the Istanbul Egyptian Consulate General Building

The Egyptian Consulate General in Istanbul is located in a beautiful mansion in Bebek. The mansion at the end of Bebek Park is the Consulate Building of Egypt in Istanbul. This building has an interesting story, which I would like to tell here.

The mansion was built in 1781. It has been changed hands and renovated several times since it was built. Finally, the mansion was taken over by the Ottoman Palace during the reign of the Ottoman Sultan Abdulhamid II. At that time, Abdulhamid II, who wanted to keep good relations with Egypt, gave the mansion as a gift to Emine Valide Pasha, the mother of the Egyptian Khedive Abbas Hilmi Pasha, who was in close relations with the palace. Emine Hanım had the mansion rebuilt and it was known as the "Hidiva Palace" at that time.

When the Ottoman Empire collapsed and the Republic of Turkey was established, Emine Hanım wanted to present the mansion to the Republic of Turkey. Official correspondence started, but Emine Hanım's name was changed to “Emine Hanım with Bebek” instead of Emine Valide Pasha, because with the establishment of the republic, the titles of ağa and pasha were no longer available. According to rumors, Emine Hanım, who was offended by being called "Madam", got angry and contacted the Egyptian government. She donated the lean to be used as the Egyptian Consulate, she. She lived in the mansion in the garden of the mansion until She died.

Documents Required for Egypt Visa

Egypt visa does not need to prepare as many documents as in other countries. It is sufficient to complete the following documents.

• Copy of identity card

How Long Does the Egypt Visa Take?

Egypt visa is a little different from other visa processes. At the first application, they check your passport and give it back to you, after giving your documents, they say, "Your visa application will be finalized within 1 month". If your application is positive, they want you to bring your passport by informing them by e-mail.

After you give your passport to the consulate again, the visa will be issued within 2-3 days, you have to go and get your passport. After receiving the information that your visa is ready, you can receive your passport from the consulate between 15:00 and 15:30 on weekdays. If you are transacting through an intermediary firm, the firm follows these processes on your behalf. If you are applying individually, you have to go to the consulate 3 times.

In summary; The application process for an Egyptian visa can vary between 2-3 months. Due to the political tensions between us and Egypt in the last few years, it is taking longer than normal for an Egyptian visa to be issued. So make sure to apply early! It is a good idea not to risk it by applying very soon before your trip.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION! It took 3 months for our last visa to be finalized. Therefore, try to make your application at least 3 months in advance.

Who Is Exempted From Egypt Visa?

Citizens of the Republic of Turkey Ordinary (Bordeaux) passport holders have to apply for a visa to the Egyptian Consulate.

Holders of Special (Green) Passports, Service (Gray) Passports and Diplomatic (Black or Red) Passports are exempt from Egypt visa procedures for their travels up to 90 days.  

Citizens of the Republic of Turkey younger than 18 and older than 45 can obtain their Egyptian visa at the door when they enter the country. The gate visa application is removed and reactivated from time to time. For up-to-date information, you should definitely call the consulate and get information.

Visa Exemption for Sinai Region (Sharm El Sheikh and Dahab)

I talked a lot about the difficulty of obtaining an Egyptian visa, let me give you some good news.

Effective as of April 1, 2022; The Egyptian government has removed the paid visa application from Turkish Citizens for Sharm El Sheikh and Sinai Region. Turkish Citizens; They can stay in the Sinai Peninsula for 15 days free of charge with a door visa. The gate visa is only valid for the Sinai Region, not Sharm El Sheikh. Many beautiful places such as Sharm El-Sheikh, Taba, Dahab, Nuweiba, Saint Catherine are located within the region. You can travel in these places with a gate visa for 15 days.

There is an official announcement that the following must be declared in order to obtain a gate visa;

• Round-trip airfare,
• Confirmed hotel reservation,
• At least 2000 Usd cash or a VISA credit card with a limit of this amount.

However, on my 2023 trip to Dahab, I was not asked for flight tickets, hotel reservations, cash or credit card limits at Sharm El Sheikh Airport. Only a form was distributed on the plane, it was enough to fill out the form and give it to the passport police.

However, as a precaution, in addition to other documents, if you have one, it would be better to have a document showing your credit card limit (such as a credit card statement).
