A simple job for those who travel a lot, but for those going to Europe for the first time Schengen visa application It is an extremely tedious and tedious process. Never mind the first time visitor, it's tedious and costly every time you get a visa. Visa of schengen. But unfortunately, it is also mandatory to go to Europe and see it - if you do not have a green passport.

For example, I had not been to Europe for about four years until this year just to avoid getting a Schengen visa. But when I found cheap Norway tickets, I agreed to a Schengen visa.

What is a Schengen Visa?

So, what is this Schengen visa, let's talk about it briefly. In 1995, a convention was signed between the European Union countries on the abolition of border control. The name of this contract is actually Schengen and it takes its name from a village in Luxembourg where the contract was signed.

Schengen Member States

Germany, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Croatia, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Italy, Luxembourg, Hungary, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia , Slovenia, Greece are the member states of the European Union that are members of Schengen.

In addition, although they are not members of the European Union, Switzerland, Iceland and Norway signed a special agreement with the European Union, were included in the Schengen agreement and were subject to the same practices.

Bulgaria and the Republic of Cyprus are the countries that wait in line to enter Schengen.

Schengen Visa

As citizens of the Republic of Turkey, they must obtain a visa from one of the countries included in the Schengen agreement in order to go to the countries included in Schengen. This is what we call a Schengen visa.

Schengen Visa Durations

If a Schengen visa is obtained as a touristic visa, which is the subject of our article, it provides the right to stay in the Schengen countries for a maximum of 6 days within the given period and within the last 90 months.

Schengen visa can be issued by the consulate where the application is made as single entry, double entry or multiple (multi) entry. If it is a single entry, it provides the right to enter and exit the Schengen countries only once with that visa, if it is double entry, it provides the right to enter and exit twice, and if it is multiple entry, it provides unlimited entry-exit right for the duration of the visa. When applying for a visa, I recommend that you mark multiple times in the application form. Thus, you have the chance to go to Europe more than once with the same visa, if the consulate deems it appropriate.

After you apply for the visa, preferably at the consulate of the country you are going to, the results of the visa application will be known between 4 and 10 days. Timing may vary depending on the country you are going to and the density of applications. For this reason, if it is before the holiday periods (such as New Year's Eve, semester, summer vacation..), I recommend that you make your application 1 month in advance.

Another thing to consider when applying for a Schengen visa is that your passport must be at least 6 months old before it expires. If your passport is about to expire, you must renew it before applying for a visa. Passport application You can also check out my article about it.

From which country should I apply for a Schengen Visa?

In order to obtain a Schengen visa, theoretically, it is sufficient to apply to the consulate of any Schengen country and obtain a visa. However, the relevant country or the passport control officer has the authority not to admit you to the country. Therefore, it is recommended that you apply for the visa from the country you plan to go to. Also, make sure to enter the country you obtained the visa from during the visa period.

There are also different urban legends: Germany does not give visas to Turks, Italy gives a very short visa, France gives visas to each applicant for 6 months... My experience is that the situation is different for everyone. Also, the political conditions at the time of your application seriously affect the results.

I went to Italy 3-4 times, got a visa 2 times. They gave 10 days for both visas, on the other hand, a friend of mine who got Schengen for the first time got a 3 months visa in his first application from Italy. I got a 2 month visa from France 3 or 6 times in a row, another friend's application was refused despite no serious reason. I can only say that if you repeatedly get a Schengen visa from the same country and enter that country during the visa period, it has a positive effect.

I got my latest schengen visa from Greece and Greece was giving everyone a visa for at least 6 months “from what I heard”. Moreover, I was invited by the Greek Tourism Office as a travel blogger and as a result of my application with this invitation letter, he granted a visa for 3 months. I was disappointed when I raised my expectations 🙁

You prepare your documents completely, if you want the visa for a long time, add it as an extra petition, if possible, and then leave it to the consulate.

Where to Apply for a Schengen Visa?

After choosing the country to apply Visa applications from the website of the Ministry of Foreign AffairsBe sure to check it out. That way, you won't concede a last-minute goal.

The place and form of application in each country may be different from each other. Now, many country consulates work with intermediary institutions, so you cannot go and say that I came to the consulate, you want a visa. For this reason, be sure to read the applications specific to the country you are applying for. Also, get information about the place and method of application from the consulate of that country (website or by phone).

For example, if you are going to get Schengen from Greece, From the website of the Greek Consulate See application requirements. Greece works with different intermediary institutions in Istanbul and Ankara. Processes such as making an appointment with intermediary institutions may differ for each country or intermediary institution, it is useful to pay attention.

If you wish, you can deal with this process yourself or you can get service from one of the companies that provide visa intermediation for a fee. The company I work for comes from time to time, takes the documents from me, sends them to the intermediary institution or the consulate and delivers them to me as a result of the visa. If you work hard like me, it is a life saver.

Required Documents for Schengen Tourist Visa Application

  • Visa application form: Each country has its own visa application form. This form can be found on the websites of consulates or brokerage firms. It is very critical to fill out the form completely and accurately.
  • Passport: A valid passport with at least two blank visa pages, obtained within the last 10 years, and valid for at least 6 months after the requested visa expiry date. If you already have passports, you can add these passports to your application.

  • Photo: 2 recent biometric photos
  • Travel insurance: You need to add a travel health insurance of 30.000 Euro or $50.000 to your application, which is valid to cover your entire travel time in the Schengen area. If you have a multiple-entry visa, you must have travel insurance to cover your first trip as a minimum. I get travel insurance annually and do not deal with the insurance business again every time.

If you are going with your own vehicle;

  • Driver's license (The driver's license must be international);
  • vehicle license;
  • Green insurance (mandatory)
  • The article about the planned trip;

If the vehicle belongs to a third party (family, friend or company etc.) authorization letter from the vehicle owner is added to the above documents.

It is worth mentioning again, if your documents are missing, you are in big trouble.

Things to Consider When Applying for a Schengen Visa

  • Make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months.
  • Make your application 1 month before departure so that you do not experience last-minute stress.
  • Make sure your passport is not torn or worn. Even if you get a visa, you can be turned away from the border, no need to take risks.
  • Make sure that all the documents required for the application are complete when making your application.

Stay on track.

  1. Hello, Ms. Sevil, I got a Netherlands visa. I couldn't go within the time allotted to me for 45 days. I left my visa due to some familial situations. An intermediary agency prepared my visa. I didn't prepare the paperwork.

    • Sevil Mert

      Hello,
      You will pay the visa application fee in any case, some countries also require you to apply with an intermediary company. If the country you are applying to accepts direct application, then you can apply directly by avoiding the agency commission in between. Required documents are already in this article.

  2. With a single-entry visa, you can go to different countries during the visa period without leaving the Schengen area. If you are going to a few different countries, you need to get your visa from the country where you will stay the most.

  3. Hi, due to my cousin's wedding, I applied for the MULTI schengen visa for 6 months and 90 days for the first time. Germany accepted with a family visit invitation. March 27 I will be in Germany. After I return to Turkey, it is possible to directly enter another Schengen country, not Germany, by plane. Will other countries have a problem?

    • Sevil Mert

      Whether your visa is a single entry or multiple entry, you applied for 6 months, but the information for how long the visa will be issued is critical. If a Multi (multiple entry) visa is issued and the stay is long, you can easily go to another Schengen country.

  4. Hello, Ms. Sevil, I went to Denmark with a wedding invitation and applied for a family visit to Denmark a couple of weeks ago, by the way, it was my sister who wanted me every 2 times. However, this time my visa was refused. Does it hinder the tourist visa? So if we apply immediately, will it be a problem?

    • Sevil Mert

      If your passport shows rejection, the reason for the rejection should also be stated.
      Rejection creates a negativity, but if the reason is stated, you should find a way to eliminate this reason when applying for a tourist attraction.

  5. I first entered Slovenia with a slovenian visa and stayed for 5 days. With a slovenian visa, 1 month later, I went to the Greek island of Chios for a day. 1 month later I went back to Chios and stayed for 3 days. should i get a visa again from slovenia or from greece? I got a Greek visa 2 years ago and I spent it in Slovenia 2 times for 5 days. so I bought it from slovenia last year. I went to Chios twice this year because the Greeks won't give it to me.

    • Sevil Mert

      If you went to Slovenia with a Slovenian visa, it's okay, it doesn't matter which countries you go to afterwards. In this case, you can apply from both countries.

  6. Hello, Ms. Sevil
    I am planning to apply for a Greece visa with my two daughters for 15 holidays. My daughters will be our first visa for high school and secondary school students, or it will be easy for us to get a visa from which European country is easiest. Thank you very much in advance.

    • Sevil Mert

      Let me know if you find the answer to this question 🙂
      France, the Netherlands and Greece are so generous about visas.

    I will go to Slovenia for a trip, but they asked me for an invitation letter. What is the reason of this.

  8. Mrs. Sevil, I want to go to Germany, but I have read in a couple of places that I have trouble issuing a visa, and if I get a Greece Schengen visa and enter and exit on the same day, if I go to Germany from Turkey at the end, there will be problems at the borders. What kind of way should I follow?

    • Sevil Mert

      After getting a Schengen visa from another country and entering and exiting that country, there will be no problem. You can do.

  13. Hello, I have a multiple entry France Schengen visa valid until December 2018. I will go to france and come back next month. In october, with my current visa, I plan to come back from vienna and then from budapest, to enter the czech republic. Do you think I will have a problem with a french visa when entering the Czech Republic?

  14. Hello 🙂 I want to ask something that is on my mind. We got a single entry 10-day Schengen from Italy. On the 7th day of this trip, we have a flight from Italy to Athens. From there, there is a flight between Athens and Izmir. Can we enter Athens with our single entry Schengen visa during this period? We do not leave the Schengen countries, but I am afraid that there will be a problem since we are leaving Italy by plane.

    • Sevil Mert

      I don't know the answer to this question clearly, theoretically it shouldn't be a problem, but if you need to go through passport control at the airport, it might be a problem.

    • Hello Ms. Gökçe Zeynep;
      A very similar situation exists with me right now. I also bought a single entry Schengen. I want to fly directly to Germany via the island of Kos, but I am afraid that there will be a problem with the control. Greek and German authorities also did not provide clear information. Did you resolve the situation? I will be happy if you inform me. I hope you didn't have any problems. Have a nice holiday.

  15. Hello Mrs. Sevil,
    We are planning an individual tour to Budapest (2 days), Vienna (3 days), Prague (3 days). Should I get the visa from Hungary, where I first entered? Or should I pick it up from Austria or Czechia, where I stayed an extra day? Do you mind if I set the accommodation documents as 3-3-2 but make 2-3-3?

    • Sevil Mert

      You can apply from the place where you will stay longer. If they ask at the entrance, you explain the situation. They probably won't ask.

  16. First of all, hello, we are planning to go on the benelux paris tour, but the departure will be from dusseldorf. The intensity of the tour program is spent in Paris. Tour companies are telling us to get multiple entry Schengen from France. Which do you think it should be, from the country we will enter first or from the country where we will stay longer? Thanks in advance

    • Sevil Mert

      You can get it from the country where you will stay for a long time, and France is more generous to Turkish citizens about visas 🙂
