A simple job for those who travel a lot, but for those going to Europe for the first time Schengen visa application It is an extremely tedious and tedious process. Never mind the first time visitor, it's tedious and costly every time you get a visa. Visa of schengen. But unfortunately, it is also mandatory to go to Europe and see it - if you do not have a green passport.

For example, I had not been to Europe for about four years until this year just to avoid getting a Schengen visa. But when I found cheap Norway tickets, I agreed to a Schengen visa.

What is a Schengen Visa?

So, what is this Schengen visa, let's talk about it briefly. In 1995, a convention was signed between the European Union countries on the abolition of border control. The name of this contract is actually Schengen and it takes its name from a village in Luxembourg where the contract was signed.

Schengen Member States

Germany, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Croatia, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Italy, Luxembourg, Hungary, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia , Slovenia, Greece are the member states of the European Union that are members of Schengen.

In addition, although they are not members of the European Union, Switzerland, Iceland and Norway signed a special agreement with the European Union, were included in the Schengen agreement and were subject to the same practices.

Bulgaria and the Republic of Cyprus are the countries that wait in line to enter Schengen.

Schengen Visa

As citizens of the Republic of Turkey, they must obtain a visa from one of the countries included in the Schengen agreement in order to go to the countries included in Schengen. This is what we call a Schengen visa.

Schengen Visa Durations

If a Schengen visa is obtained as a touristic visa, which is the subject of our article, it provides the right to stay in the Schengen countries for a maximum of 6 days within the given period and within the last 90 months.

Schengen visa can be issued by the consulate where the application is made as single entry, double entry or multiple (multi) entry. If it is a single entry, it provides the right to enter and exit the Schengen countries only once with that visa, if it is double entry, it provides the right to enter and exit twice, and if it is multiple entry, it provides unlimited entry-exit right for the duration of the visa. When applying for a visa, I recommend that you mark multiple times in the application form. Thus, you have the chance to go to Europe more than once with the same visa, if the consulate deems it appropriate.

After you apply for the visa, preferably at the consulate of the country you are going to, the results of the visa application will be known between 4 and 10 days. Timing may vary depending on the country you are going to and the density of applications. For this reason, if it is before the holiday periods (such as New Year's Eve, semester, summer vacation..), I recommend that you make your application 1 month in advance.

Another thing to consider when applying for a Schengen visa is that your passport must be at least 6 months old before it expires. If your passport is about to expire, you must renew it before applying for a visa. Passport application You can also check out my article about it.

From which country should I apply for a Schengen Visa?

In order to obtain a Schengen visa, theoretically, it is sufficient to apply to the consulate of any Schengen country and obtain a visa. However, the relevant country or the passport control officer has the authority not to admit you to the country. Therefore, it is recommended that you apply for the visa from the country you plan to go to. Also, make sure to enter the country you obtained the visa from during the visa period.

There are also different urban legends: Germany does not give visas to Turks, Italy gives a very short visa, France gives visas to each applicant for 6 months... My experience is that the situation is different for everyone. Also, the political conditions at the time of your application seriously affect the results.

I went to Italy 3-4 times, got a visa 2 times. They gave 10 days for both visas, on the other hand, a friend of mine who got Schengen for the first time got a 3 months visa in his first application from Italy. I got a 2 month visa from France 3 or 6 times in a row, another friend's application was refused despite no serious reason. I can only say that if you repeatedly get a Schengen visa from the same country and enter that country during the visa period, it has a positive effect.

I got my latest schengen visa from Greece and Greece was giving everyone a visa for at least 6 months β€œfrom what I heard”. Moreover, I was invited by the Greek Tourism Office as a travel blogger and as a result of my application with this invitation letter, he granted a visa for 3 months. I was disappointed when I raised my expectations πŸ™

You prepare your documents completely, if you want the visa for a long time, add it as an extra petition, if possible, and then leave it to the consulate.

Where to Apply for a Schengen Visa?

After choosing the country to apply Visa applications from the website of the Ministry of Foreign AffairsBe sure to check it out. That way, you won't concede a last-minute goal.

The place and form of application in each country may be different from each other. Now, many country consulates work with intermediary institutions, so you cannot go and say that I came to the consulate, you want a visa. For this reason, be sure to read the applications specific to the country you are applying for. Also, get information about the place and method of application from the consulate of that country (website or by phone).

For example, if you are going to get Schengen from Greece, From the website of the Greek Consulate See application requirements. Greece works with different intermediary institutions in Istanbul and Ankara. Processes such as making an appointment with intermediary institutions may differ for each country or intermediary institution, it is useful to pay attention.

If you wish, you can deal with this process yourself or you can get service from one of the companies that provide visa intermediation for a fee. The company I work for comes from time to time, takes the documents from me, sends them to the intermediary institution or the consulate and delivers them to me as a result of the visa. If you work hard like me, it is a life saver.

Required Documents for Schengen Tourist Visa Application

  • Visa application form: Each country has its own visa application form. This form can be found on the websites of consulates or brokerage firms. It is very critical to fill out the form completely and accurately.
  • Passport: A valid passport with at least two blank visa pages, obtained within the last 10 years, and valid for at least 6 months after the requested visa expiry date. If you already have passports, you can add these passports to your application.
  • Photocopy of the passaport: Photocopies of 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and last pages of valid old type (dark blue) passports. For new type passports, only the photocopy of the page on which the identity information is written is required. If you have received a Schengen visa before, include a photocopy of the pages containing that visa in your application.
  • Photo: 2 recent biometric photos
  • Travel insurance: You need to add a travel health insurance of 30.000 Euro or $50.000 to your application, which is valid to cover your entire travel time in the Schengen area. If you have a multiple-entry visa, you must have travel insurance to cover your first trip as a minimum. I get travel insurance annually and do not deal with the insurance business again every time.
  • Copy of identity card

If you are an employee;

  • employer letter: A letter written on company letterhead confirming the person's position, starting date, salary, time off, and that he will continue to work on his return;

  • Salary slips of the last 3 months. If you have started a new job, you can submit information about your previous workplace and payrolls.
  • Personal bank passbooks for the last 3 months. If received as a statement, it must be stamped and signed by the bank;
  • Your assets in Turkey or Europe (copy of title deeds).

If you will travel by plane;

  • Round-trip flight ticket reservation (original ticket can be requested);
  • If traveling by tour, the tour program.

Hotel

  • Accommodation reservations (Document showing hotel reservation)

If you are going with your own vehicle;

  • Driver's license (The driver's license must be international);
  • vehicle license;
  • Green insurance (mandatory)
  • The article about the planned trip;

If the vehicle belongs to a third party (family, friend or company etc.) authorization letter from the vehicle owner is added to the above documents.

It is worth mentioning again, if your documents are missing, you are in big trouble.

Things to Consider When Applying for a Schengen Visa

  • Make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months.
  • Make your application 1 month before departure so that you do not experience last-minute stress.
  • Make sure your passport is not torn or worn. Even if you get a visa, you can be turned away from the border, no need to take risks.
  • Make sure that all the documents required for the application are complete when making your application.

Stay on track.

  1. Hello dear lady,
    My visa application, which I submitted through VFS Global a month ago, without any visa assistance from any institution, was rejected. I am a student and my aunt sent me an invitation. Now I want to apply again in October. But my trip will be in January. Do you think it's too early? And as the reason for the trip, I will show it as attending my cousin's engagement in January. He has a wedding in Germany in June. As a student from the French Consulate, do I have a chance to get a visa for 6 months so that I can go to Germany in January and again in June for the wedding?

    • Hello Ozan,
      Your first Schengen visa is a bit difficult for 6 months. But these visa jobs are not very clear. Mostly luck. πŸ™‚

  2. Hello, I want to go to the Netherlands, I am a company employee, I will go abroad for the first time, will it be difficult to get a visa, do you think they will issue a visa?

  3. Hello, a friend of mine wants to apply through my visa. Is something like this possible? If so, will it affect me?

    • Hello Pinar,

      This is the first time I've heard of something like applying through your visa, as far as I know, there is no such application.

  4. Hello there
    I planned a trip to Athens for 2 nights, Italian cities for 4 nights, and Portugal for 3 nights. I made all my reservations. I went to get a visa from Greece, which is the first country I will enter, but they said that I need to get it from Italy because I will stay in Italy for 4 nights. but my question is, will I have a problem as I will be making the first entry from greece? Although they stated that there would be no such thing, frankly, I was pissed.

    • If they ask when entering Greece - they probably won't - have your Italy hotel reservations etc with you. So you can prove that you've crossed into Italy.

    • The rule of scghen is that you have to submit your visa application from that country where you will be staying the most.
      When entering Greece, it will be sufficient to explain your situation and show your hotel reservation in Italy.

  5. Hello Mrs. Sevil
    At 06.05, my mother, brother and I applied to go to Austria. We booked the hotel reservation as a triple room. But my mother will stay for 3 days. We are 16 days with my brother. Hotel reservation over 7 days. I wrote in a separate petition. Even though I explained that my hotel reservation was like this because my mother will stay 16 more days, now a document was asked from the consulate why the flight ticket and hotel reservation are incompatible.
    Note: there will be a visit to relatives, but we applied in this way so that the party would not deal with the request. What explanation would you suggest?

    • You should have been invited because you are related to Austria ??????? The consulate is a country that always creates a problem in terms of visa. Your visa application will most likely be rejected.

  6. Hi, I am an Afghan national, but my wife, my child, is a Turkish citizen, is it difficult to get a visa to travel to Athens, Greece? I have a job and the documents are complete. I wonder if they are interviewing for the first visa and ?

  7. Selm, I'm ilhan, even though I get a visa every year in Greece, he was refused this year, I don't understand what kind of mentality this is.

    • I haven't been able to solve the math of this thing. It may be an alternative to correct/improve your rejection reasons and apply again.

  8. Hello everyone, I got a visa for 28 days (Spain) and 6 months (Netherlands) for both of them. The purpose of both was interrail. But this September, I plan to stay in Poland for a period of time, since it is cheap and a friend of mine is going to Erasmus. I don't have to attend school. I bought my plane ticket from Sweden, it was very cheap, now I am brooding over what strategy I should follow so that these guys give me a long-term visa. I guess my options are:
    1) To create a wobbly route and say that I want to travel around Europe by bus for a month or so.
    2) Asking for an invitation from an acquaintance from there, as if I would stay for two months
    3) language course reservations, etc., which will imply that I prefer Sweden simply because it is cheap, and will indicate that my business will be with Poland,
    It's not the first time I bought a return ticket, the room is confusing me a bit.
    If anyone can help that would be great, thanks in advance guys????????

  9. Hello dear lady. I will ask a question. I got maltese schengen visa for language education. On my visa it says the start and end dates of my visa and the duration of my stay as 23 days. The visa type is a type C visa. But there is also a small round castle and a signature in the lower right part of my visa. I couldn't understand whether this is visa refusal or approval . I would be very grateful if you could inform me . I wish you a good day

    • I'm sorry, dear lady, I didn't know I asked before. Well, I saw that the same is true for your Greece visa above. Did this cause you any problems when entering Greece?

  10. Hello, I have a question, I will go to Malta for language education, my visa arrived today. But they have printed the visa on the passport, there is also the start and end date of the trip. However, there is a round stamp and signature called Consulate of Malta, what does this mean? Was my visa denied or accepted? Thank you.

  11. Hello,
    I went to Europe, stayed for two weeks, and came back to Turkey for work. but I still have a 2-month tourist Multi Schengen visa. While I have this visa in my passport, I am considering applying for a 1-2 year touristic Schengen visa from another Schengen country. Is something like this possible ? test. I will.

  12. I am a student and I will apply for a visa to Germany. There is one month and five days to my departure date. Should I apply with a consultant institution other than Idata or will the process be faster if I apply to Idata myself? Thanks in advance????

    • I do not know the answer to the question, I have never received a visa from Germany.
      Good luck with.

  13. Good day, I have a trip plan on July 12, I need help with a few issues that come to my mind.
    I will stay in the Netherlands for 3 days, Germany for 3 days and the Czech Republic for 4 days during my trip, and I plan to apply for a visa from the Netherlands, which is the first country I will enter, but in some of the articles I read, it is stated that it should be taken from the country of residence, I would be very happy if you could help with this.

    • You will be more comfortable if it is the country you will enter for the first time, but when making the application (especially if it is your first Schengen), be sure to state that you have a transition plan to other countries.

  14. Hello, I am planning to go to Paris first, then to Belgium, and from there to Amsterdam, within an 8-9-day program. In this case, should I get at least "multiple entry" Schengen? Check-in Return from France Do you think there is a possibility that there will be such a ridiculous thing as getting a single entry right when I have a flight ticket from Amsterdam and my hotel reservations etc. are complete? Thank you.

  15. There is one issue that applicants for France and Greece visas should pay attention to; If there is an entry stamp from any customs port in the TRNC (mainly Ercan airport) in your current passport that you applied for (not counting the passport taken from the TRNC by the way), you will definitely get a rejection response. If your passport is like this, my advice to you would be to issue a second valid passport based on the new application of the General Directorate of Security.

  16. Hello, they refused my application to Greece last year. Now, no matter which country I apply to, it will not refuse.

    • Murat,
      There is no such general acceptance.
      If there is a country you want to go to, you can choose it and apply again from there.
