History of Yıldız Park

Yıldız Park, which is an escape point in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Beşiktaş, in the heart of Istanbul, is actually the palace garden.

Known as the place where Pan played his flute in Istanbul in mythological stories. Star Grove; It was used as an entertainment center in the Tulip Era, the backyard of the Çırağan Palace, and a casino in the Republic Period for a while. It currently serves as a public grove maintained by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

Where is Yildiz Park?

If you are looking for an oasis in the middle of the city where you can breathe in Beşiktaş, Yıldız Park is definitely the right address. Where is Yildiz Park? if you say; It covers a wide area extending to Çırağan Palace on the sea side below and Yıldız Palace and Yıldız Technical University above. With this area it covers, it is the largest grove in the city of Istanbul.

Yıldız Park has two entrances:

  1. Yıldız Park Çırağan Street Entrance (bottom entrance): You will see the Küçük Mecidiye Mosque on the left as you head towards Ortaköy from Beşiktaş. There is Beşiktaş Police Department across the mosque. When you follow the road between the Police Department and Mecidiye Mosque on Çırağan Street, you will reach the lower entrance. When you walk down the narrow street between the mosque and the police station, you will see the grand gate of Yıldız Park. Here you have reached the park!
  2. Yıldız Park Palanga Street Entrance (upper entrance): The upper entrance of the park is located on Palanga Street on the right as you move towards Gayrettepe on Barbaros Street. This street is also used for the descent from Barbaros Street to Ortaköy. You will see the high entrance gate of Yıldız Park between the high walls on Palanga Street.

It is possible to enter Yıldız Park by car from both entrances I mentioned, but there is no exit from the lower entrance. You have to enter from the bottom and exit from the top.

Since there are small parking lots in front of the mansions in the grove, my advice is not to come to Yıldız Park by car.

How to go to Yıldız Park?

"How to get to Yıldız Park?” If you ask; The easiest way to go to the park is to reach the Çırağan entrance with a short walk from Beşiktaş pier. You can also come with your car using the same road. You can leave your vehicle in the Ispark parking lot opposite the Çırağan Palace or in the parking lots in Yıldız Woods.

Even if you come from the upper entrance, you can take any bus or minibus that exits Barbaros Caddesi from Beşiktaş. You can get off at the stop after Yıldız Technical University and reach the entrance on Palanga Street. It is also possible to cover the same road with your vehicle.

Yildiz Park free for pedestrians.

If you are coming with your own vehicle, you have to pay the parking fee. year 2022 Star park parking fee; 15 TL for motorcycle, 30 TL for car, 60 TL for minibus all day.

If you want to take any professional photo shoot in the park, you need to get special permission. Since the grove is easy to reach and offers wonderful views, it is highly preferred by wedding photographers.

Yıldız Park Parking Options

You can see the Yildiz Park parking options below;

  1. There is an Ispark outside the Çırağan Street entrance of Yıldız Park. Right across the Çırağan Palace, next to Beşiktaş Police Station, there is usually a place in this İspark. There is no parking lot at the entrance of Çırağan, inside the park. Unfortunately, vehicles are parked on the side of the road and block the pedestrian walkway.
  2. Yıldız Park has a car park close to Malta Mansion, but this is also a rather small car park.
  3. In the lower part of the Tent Villa, the newly landscaped area has the largest parking lot in the entire park. You can leave your vehicle here.

Unfortunately, a lot of cars are parked on the sides of the walking paths as the parking space is limited. This disturbs people who want to be in touch with nature, which is the main purpose of the park, and do sports. I suggest you pay attention to this issue.

My recommendation; Coming to Yıldız Park by public transport, not by your own vehicle. So you don't have to deal with the hassle of parking.

Since the mansions have historical value, you can enter and tour.

Malta Mansion was built by Sultan Abdulaziz in 1871 in the grove in the garden of Çırağan Palace at that time. There is no definite information about the architect of the mansion and why it was named Malta. Considering the architecture of the mansion, it is estimated that it was used for daily work, not for accommodation. After the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, the mansion remained empty for a long time, and in 1941 it was transferred to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

As seen in the photo above, there is a very small parking lot in front of the mansion.

The most beautiful part of the mansion is the pond/pool in front of it. Breakfast and beverages are served all day in the mansion. I like the breakfast very much, since it is a municipality business, the prices are also affordable.
