What is Kasir?

Although it is a bit confusing that it is written as Ihlamur Pavilion on the website of the National Palaces and Ihlamur Pavilions at the entrance, I will refer to it as Ihlamur Pavilion when I talk about it as it is known as Ihlamur Pavilion among the people.

Ihlamur Pavilion - An Oasis in the Heart of Istanbul
Ihlamur Pavilion – An Oasis in the Heart of Istanbul

Firstly "What is Kasir?” if you say; It is the name given to small palaces and/or mansions built for rulers. Since there are two separate mansions in the place we will talk about, let's not forget that the correct use should be "Ihlamur Pavilions". Small Su Pavilion, Khedive Pavilion, Maslak Pavilions are some of the famous pavilions of Istanbul.

About Ihlamur Pavilion

About Ihlamur Pavilion

Who knows when it was built, the street lamps placed on the embroidered columns, the pine and linden trees that can be understood from the thickness of its body that they are very old, the two mansions that now serve as a museum and cafeteria, the many green-headed ducks accustomed to people wandering on the grass, the splendor of their feathers. Ihlamur Pavilion fascinates me every time I go, with the peacocks wandering around saying that I am the most beautiful place, even though it lost it, with its colorful flowers that change according to the season and whose beauty remains, the pools where the ducks love to sink into and swim in, the garden arrangement that is evident in every way that the gardeners look after meticulously.

And if you keep the magnolia time, you can't get enough of watching the elegance of those big flowers for a few weeks in March.

Inside the Ihlamur Pavilion, there are two mansions, one of which is a cafeteria and the other a museum, 3 ornamental pools, a summer garden cafeteria serving in the summer months, plenty of ducks and a rabbit coop. Those who take a walk in the garden and mothers who let their children breathe are the profiles you will see most frequently. Especially in good weather, the pools are very crowded.

Where is Ihlamur Pavilion? How to Go to Ihlamur Pavilion?

Ihlamur Pavilion; Beşiktaş Bazaar is located in Ihlamur Valley, which is between Yıldız and Nişantaşı triangle. If you know Beşiktaş, the large garden at the crossroads behind Beşiktaş Marriage Office is the garden where the Ihlamur Pavilion is located. for its location Click.

Where is Ihlamur Pavilion?

It takes about 15-20 minutes to walk from Beşiktaş beach to Ihlamur Pavilion, which is located in a somewhat difficult place in terms of transportation. It is also possible to walk from Yıldız, even if it is 15 minutes on the descent, I would not recommend using that road on the way back as it is a very steep ascent. You can easily reach here by buses passing around Beşiktaş Marriage Office. I would not recommend you to come with your own vehicle due to the heavy traffic in that area.

Is There Parking At Ihlamur Pavilion?

If you want to come to the Ihlamur Pavilion with your own vehicle, the pavilion does not have its own parking lot. You can use the paid parking lots in the surrounding area.

  • The closest to the Ihlamur Pavilion is the large car park under the Beşiktaş Marriage Office. You can leave your car here with an hourly parking fee.
  • Coming from the direction of Beşiktaş, there is a covered car park under Carrefour on the right. This is the first car park you will come across on your way from Beşiktaş Bazaar, but this is the one farthest from the pavilions.
  • There is İspark on the side of the road along Ihlamurdere Street, but it would be delusional to hope to find a place in İspark in the heart of Beşiktaş, don't trust it at all.
  • Another parking lot is the car park at the beginning of the slope that goes towards Yıldız direction from the junction opposite the entrance of the pavilions.

I definitely do not recommend you to come here with your car, especially on Saturday, because Saturday is also the day of Beşiktaş Market. Beşiktaş Pazarı is set up right across the marriage office, and the already problematic traffic becomes paralyzed.

History of Ihlamur Pavilion

Ihlamur Pavilion – Maiyet Mansion, that is, its cafeteria

After giving detailed information about the transportation to Ihlamur Pavilion, let's come to the history of Ihlamur Pavilion. Although there are rumors that there were two mansions in the Ihlamur Valley in the 18th century, the existing buildings here were built by the Balyanlar Family, who were the architects of many buildings in Istanbul, by Sultan Abdülmecit between 1845 and 1855.

It is recorded in the records that before the Ihlamur Pavilion was built, this area belonged to Hacı Hüseyin Ağa, one of the Eminent of the Shipyard, and that it was a recreation area known as “Hacı Hüseyin Bağları”, taking its name from him.

Ihlamur Pavilion – Ceremonial Mansion, that is, its museum

Ihlamur Pavilion; It consists of two mansions named Maiyet Mansion and Merasim Mansion. While the majestic and ostentatious Ceremonial Mansion is used for the official affairs and ceremonies of Abdulmecid, the simpler one is the Maiyet Mansion, which was allocated for the Sultan's entourage and sometimes his harem. While the Maiyet Mansion serves as a cafeteria today, the Merasim Mansion serves as a museum.

It is said that the mansions built in Baroque style were built as miniatures of Dolmabahçe and Beylerbeyi Palaces as a reference.

It is forbidden to take photos inside the Ceremony Mansion, so unfortunately there are no photos from inside. It's quite small inside, so don't go in with high expectations. You might think of it as a place to take a quick look and hang out.

The pavilions have been open to visitors as museums and ruins since 1987.

Ihlamur Pavilions Visiting Hours

The pavilions are open to visitors between 09:00-17:30 every day except Mondays. Especially if you go in the morning hours on weekdays, you have the chance to catch them empty, otherwise it is usually very crowded.

Best Time to Visit Ihlamur Pavilion

For those who ask about the best times to visit Istanbul, I say spring months. The best time to visit the Ihlamur Pavilion is the end of March, the beginning of April, that is, when the magnolias bloom. But magnolias stay open for a very short time, only a few weeks.

Garden of Ihlamur Pavilion
Linden Pavilion garden – Magnolia time

There are huge magnolia trees in the garden of Ihlamur Pavilion and when we went, they looked like brides with their magnificent flowers. As the wind blew, the smell of magnolia filled the whole garden. Also, the tulips in the garden were starting to bloom. Ihlamur Pavilion is like an oasis in the heart of Istanbul on a sunny spring day.

Besiktas Attractions

I said that the list of places to visit in Beşiktaş is quite high. If you are planning a trip to Beşiktaş, the places I would recommend you to see are;

  • Dolmabahçe Palace: When you say Beşiktaş, the first place to see is, of course, DOLMABAHÇE PALACE. I suggest you spend half a day with the Clock Tower, Harem, Selamlık, and the Palace Collections Museum behind it. The cafe in the garden of Dolmabahçe Palace has a very beautiful view on the sea side, you don't need to buy a ticket to enter. You can also go for tea. There is also a nice cafe inside the Palace Collections Museum. Hidden, beautiful view.
  • Known as Dolmabahçe Mosque Bezmialem Valide Sultan Mosque: The mosque located right at the entrance of Dolmabahçe Palace.
  • If you are interested in football, the Vodafone Arena Beşiktaş JK Museum.
  • Maritime Museum: If you exit Dolmabahçe Palace by the Palace Collections Museum, there is the Naval Museum 100 meters later. It is a very nice museum, sometimes there are exhibitions in it. There is a restaurant called Bord at the entrance of the Maritime Museum, I recommend it.
  • Akarets: When it comes to Beşiktaş, it is impossible not to take a look at Akaretler. The region, which has increased in popularity with its many beautiful places opened recently, used to be a place that we can call the first lodgings of the history, where the employees of the Dolmabahçe Palace lived.
  • Ataturk House Museum: On Akaretler street, there is a building where Atatürk stayed for a while before he went to Samsun. Today it serves as a museum. However, it is closed on weekends.
  • Besiktas Bazaar: After the Naval Museum, you can stop by Beşiktaş Bazaar for a coffee or a meal, and shop at the bazaars. .
  • Ihlamur Pavilion: You can walk to the Ihlamur Pavilion from the market. It has a very beautiful garden.
  • Yildiz Park: If you continue from Beşiktaş to Ortaköy, you will reach Yıldız Park and the Malta Mansion in it. Tent Pavilion places where you can spend time in the forest, which will suddenly tear you away from Istanbul.
  • Ciragan Palace: Çırağan Palace, another important palace in Beşiktaş, is unfortunately not open for touristic visits.
  • Ortaköy: It is necessary to come to ORTAKÖY, to visit the mobile stalls, to have a photo taken in front of the Ortaköy Mosque, and to eat kumpir.

It is very difficult to fit all of this into a single day, you might consider dedicating two days to Beşiktaş.

Stay on the Road!
