Rome is my dream city. When I returned here after visiting many European cities, I understood better why I felt this way. Rome is like a small Istanbul after all... Its crowd, its lawlessness, its beauties, its people... Another thing that attracts me in Rome is its splendor. Magnificent squares, magnificent churches, magnificent palaces, magnificent gardens, magnificent Colosseum. Rome part of my 7-day trip in Italy, Places to visit in Rome and Rome travel notes is in this article.

Getting to Rome

We pass from Pisa to Rome by a train that follows the Mediterranean coastline. We are trying to suppress the excitement of going to Rome by watching the sea from our compartment train. I can't stand still.

trains in italy Check out my article about it.

Where to Stay in Rome

We get off the train at Rome central station. Our hotel is 5 minutes away from here. There are many hotels on the right and left, such as the street where our hotel is located. But we have difficulty in finding our hotel, because our hotel is entered from a courtyard. Booking.com we set via our hotelWhen we arrive at the hotel, our owner greets us very hospitably and offers us a drink. After the treatment in other hotels in Italy until we got here, this uncle is quite entertaining us. If you happen to be in Rome, I recommend you to stay at Accommodation Delia. It is very close to both the city center and all kinds of transportation.

Places to Visit in Rome

Our first night in Rome starts with an environmental tour. Just like there is a Republic Square in every city in Turkey, there is also a Republic Square in Rome ๐Ÿ™‚ We take a quick tour from Republica Square to the Fountain of Love and from there to the Colosseum in front of the Venetian Palace. As I left Rome ๐Ÿ™‚

Vatikan

The next morning, of course, our first point of visit is the Vatican. When I first saw the Vatican, I was so impressed by its splendor that I was looking forward to the morning. We take the metro to go from the hotel to the Vatican. The Rome subway is the dirtiest subway I've ever seen. The heavy smell of our old village buses dominates this subway. There is already a weak metro network in Rome. It is very similar to Istanbul in terms of transportation. Buses jam-packed in traffic, small buses like minibuses on narrow side streets.

The long queue in front of the Vatican greets us as always. But we manage to get inside in a short time by welding the line in Turkish style. The first place to see is the dome of the church of San Pietro and a panoramic view of Rome from the roof. I love this view. Here's a little Turkish tip: You have two different options to go up to the dome, elevator and staircase. You pay 2 โ‚ฌ more for the elevator. But after passing the main checkpoint, no one checks the ticket. You can use the elevator by buying a stair ticket ๐Ÿ˜‰

We look down on the church from the inside of the dome. Because of my fear of heights, I look too far to the side. Stunningly beautiful. I wish we could speak Latin but understand what these walls are saying...

There is a staircase up to the dome, but after it is a narrow staircase. The stairs are like 300 steps. The more one climbs, the more impatient one gets. Old-headed aunts climb with determination. And we're finally on the roof. All Rome is under our feet. The view is really worth seeing.

I guess there is no one who has not seen this classic photo. Well, I couldn't help but post this photo I took with my own hands. There's also a Colosseum version of it. After the narrow stairs we came to, we take the elevator and go down. We will now tour the interior of the church. They do not allow tripods to be used inside the church. Before we can even take a pose, the officer comes and has our tripod turned off, then we will say goodbye at the airport, we do not know about our veteran tripod yet. It is impossible to leave without taking a lot of photos, even if they are shaky.

Reluctantly, feet willing to stay here, we cross St. Peter's Square and leave the Vatican. We don't go to the sections with the treasures, because we already have two full days in Rome. First we must finish the exploration of the external beauty of Rome.

st. Angelo Bridge and Castle

st. Angelo Castle
st. Angelo Castle

Next up is St. Angelo Bridge and Castle. This is a castle on the banks of the Tiber river. Many nobles at the time chose this castle for protection. Now it has been invaded by tourists and peddlers. The Tiber river runs through Rome. These rivers are an indispensable part of every beautiful European city. Of course, he had his share in Rome.

Navona Square

Navona Square
Navona Square

From here we set off towards the center of Rome. Our first stop is Piazza Navona. I love this square very, very much. The square is filled with two pools and many street painters and cafes around it. I get the feeling that let me stay here forever whenever I come to this square.

I guess my artistic feelings are rising here. Sacre Cour made me feel the same in Paris.

Pantheon

We dive into one of the dozens of streets surrounding the Navona square and go to find the Pantheon. The Pantheon is one of my monuments of splendor in Rome. This square is among the top five among the squares in Rome. The Pantheon was equal in diameter and height. They have over-restored the inside, unfortunately it looks like it was made yesterday. The outside looks like it's about to collapse at any moment. The square is lively, we spend a little more time here, but the question of whether the next place we will see will be more impressive than hereโ€ฆ

โ€œYou too, Brutus?โ€ We pass through another square where the historical monuments of which the story takes place are located. We find ourselves on the banks of the Tiber River, with the ambition that there will be no square we haven't visited. We get lost in the side streets and draw a curve towards the heart of Rome.

Capitoline Hill

We reach the Capitoline hill and I am very impressed again. Because everything in this square is symmetrical. Sculptures, buildings and, if any, all are symmetrical in the square created by Michelangelo. One cannot help but think that this is crazy work.

When we go down the hill and turn right, we come across a building that the Romans disliked, but that I love, and still dazzles with its magnificence. This huge monument opposite the Venetian Palace was built by Emmanuel as a wedding present for his wife. It can be seen from almost anywhere in Rome and contrasts with the general architecture. That's why the Romans didn't like it.

We say we need to see this at night and continue on our way. Because historical places are slowly starting to close.

colosseum

colosseum
colosseum

We go to the Coloseum and return from the door, because the visit ends at 16.30 during the winter period. In order not to encounter such situations, do not forget to read the information in the guide in your hand, I did it ๐Ÿ™ We will come again tomorrow to see the inside.

Just as a city lies under Istanbul, so a city lies under Rome. Even more than one. Archaeologists had a hard time separating the floors.

fountain of love

We go to see the fountain called the Fountain of Love by the Turks and Fontana di Trevi by the Romans. It doesn't matter day or night, this place is crowded at all hours of the day. Those who throw wish coins at the fountain, those who take pictures, peddlers againโ€ฆ Here, we encounter the tradition of putting locks on the irons we see in Florence and Pisa.

We've had the evening, but the other half of Rome is still waiting for us. Tomorrow we will see the remaining places on our list in the form of a rush. Rome never ends

Stay on track!

"Does he who reads a lot or travels a lot?" I started by saying, I am still looking for an answer. I travel after my dreams and share my experiences on my blog, newspapers and magazines. I love to travel, read, write and dream.

  1. Unfortunately, I stopped reading after your suggestions to source the queue in the Vatican paragraph and use a service you didn't pay for. It's nice to travel economically, but not by deceiving others. I hope you'll change your stance when you think about this a little bit.

  2. abdulkadir karahan

I read your article about Rome, Venice and Florence, where we will travel to Italy on 06 November 2018 with my 10-year-old son. Made me feel good before the trip, thank you..

  4. greetings;
The land of my dreams, which I wanted to go a lot but never had the courage to, but every time I said that that day will come. I wish you would add some more photos while reading the article.. believe me, I would love to be in your place. When I read such articles once, I say one day I will go too.
Would you recommend going with tour companies? Or is it better to buy the ticket and go to Rome and explore as if running :)

    • Hello Mr. Sinan,

If you are going abroad for the first time, you can choose tour companies. But the most beautiful thing is to have your own guide ๐Ÿ™‚

I hope you will go soonโ€ฆ

  5. Hello,

    It's a super site, I'm so envious when I see the places you've visited, it's a great thing ๐Ÿ™‚

Unfortunately, I have never been abroad outside of Bulgaria ๐Ÿ™‚ We will go to Vienna at the end of April, we will go to Bratislava daily from Vienna. But I want to see Venice, Pisa and Rome too, I want to stay in Rome for one evening and spend the rest on evening trips. In total, my time for this trip is 3 days. I have done research, but the road tolls are extraordinarily high, how and with what vehicles I should travel, please advise me, I was inspired by your articles, but I need help,

    Thank you so muchโ€ฆ

  6. ๐Ÿ™‚ I like it very hot, that's why I'm running away from Belgium, I want to live in a nice place, but kismet, I'm out of Turkey for now, thank you

  7. I also lived in Istanbul for 20 years and has a very difficult life, the hot and sea is very ideal for me, but as far as I understand, Rome is not suitable for me, maybe I am thinking of observing the cities of rimini or ancona, what kind of place I saw only in the pictures, I like it, what do you think? about cities?

    • I don't know Ancona. Rimini also tastes like a holiday town. Like I said, if you like it hot, why not. You can settle in Antalya instead ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. hello, i live in belgium and i never liked this place, i didn't get to work, i want to settle in italy, as someone who has traveled and seen it, where would you recommend as a place to live in atlya.

    thank you

    • Hello,
A tourist's observations may not be enough to suggest a place to live. I never want to mislead you. You can start by deciding what kind of city you want to live in. If you like mountains and serenity, Italy's North can be enjoyable, if you like sea, heat and chaos, South of Italy can be enjoyable. Rome creates the feeling of Istanbul for me, so it feels warm, but Istanbul is also a difficult city to live inโ€ฆ

    • It doesn't make much sense to shop in Italy or any country in Europe, unless we're talking about buying something unique to that country. For many brands, the euro price there is in the form of the TL price here. However, it is necessary to coincide with the discount periods, etc., but it would be a lie if I said that I know because I am not interested in shopping.

The more money you go, the more you spend ๐Ÿ™‚ My advice to you is to set a limit for yourself every day and try not to exceed it, otherwise people can't stand it and spend it ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Hello there. I read your article and I liked it very much. Fortunately, we will go to see Rome on the 4th of July. I want to ask something about the exit to the dome of the vatican.
Where do we buy the ticket to exit the dome? Is it sold at the entrance of the vatican museum, or is there a separate shop? I would be glad if you help. thanks.

    • Hello, when you go from the Vatican Square to the entrance of the San Pietro church on the right, you will see a narrow passage in front of you without climbing the stairs. You see people already lined up. By the way, another little Turkish tip: There are very long queues at the entrance to San Pietro. By pretending to be a tourist looking for your group, you can quickly move past the queue. I guess no one else does this but us ๐Ÿ™‚
I love Rome, I hope you do too. It will be quite hot in July. Take care of yourself.
