Azerbaijan it will be almost a year since he went on his trip and came back, Azerbaijan places to visit I can only write my article about it 🙂 What's up, I can't find time to write because of traveling 🙂

Places to Visit in Azerbaijan

Why Azerbaijan?

Azerbaijan'“Why?” who heard that I was going to he asked, not a well-known popular travel destination after all. Let me tell you a short story without boring you. I bought my tickets a year ago and actually my goal was to go to Uzbekistan or Kazakhstan. I'm wondering, apart from being Turkic Republics, there is something that attracts me there, I don't know why yet, we'll find out when we go… Anyway, back to the subject; flight ticket I look around, but I read that tickets are expensive and there are problems with visas. Moreover, Uzbekistan visa is 160USD.

Why Azerbaijan?

I started to look at the Turkic Republics that are closer and closer on the map, and I came closer to Azerbaijan. There was a place in Azerbaijan that caught my attention, and that was the Caucasus. Moreover, we could get an Azerbaijan visa at the door for only 10 USD.

Life in Azerbaijan

It was a very different experience to see the admiration and gratitude for Turkey in Azerbaijan. Turkey is a utopia for them; a country they want to reach, be like, or even want to live in. They constantly watch Turkish channels and of course TV series. However, in many respects, I hope it is a country that makes us say they resemble us. I hope their fondness for art and artists, their sincere and sincere demeanor will never change.

They understand our Turkish very well because they watch Turkish television channels all the time, but if they don't pay attention and speak fast, you are unlikely to understand them. My name is “Sevil” is used as a name there as well, this was an advantage for me of course. When they hear that you are coming from Turkey, they act very close and in general they are very warm and sincere. Everyone I talked to either came to Turkey for a while or a relative is in Turkey.

Although people are not wealthy, they take great care of their appearance. Their tops are always immaculate and sparkling. Overweight people rarely exist. Even if they were poor, they were very careful about their clothes.

Many places are open 24 hours. Markets, pharmacies, cafes, etc.. In other words, the city lives 24 hours a day.

Poetry, art, painting, sculpture, theater are everywhere… I think this was my favorite part.

Places to Visit in Azerbaijan and My Travel Notes

I have marked my suggestions for cities to visit in Azerbaijan on the map below so that it will be easy to follow. I had a chance to see some of them, you will see the details below.

Places to Visit in Azerbaijan

1. Baku

Of course, the first place that comes to mind when talking about places to visit in Azerbaijan Baku. It's normal for that to happen, of course. It is both the capital and the most developed city of the country. In addition, flights are mainly to Baku. Baku is a city full of art, going through a much more organized, serious restructuring than I expected. It made me say what a beautiful city to live in, with its impressive buildings with communism and Russian influence, the spread of art throughout the city, and its huge parks. It is also a city suitable for long walks or resting with its landscaping on the shores of the Caspian Sea. For details Places to Visit in Baku You can take a look at my post.

When you head north from Baku, the Caucasus greets you, which is a very valid reason to go to Azerbaijan. I had the chance to see this magnificent mountain range in Georgia before, I enjoyed seeing it again in Azerbaijan 🙂

2. Gobustan

This is a historical place about 40km from Baku. The figures drawn on the stones are thought to be the remains of the first humans. You should also see the Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape museum while you are there.

You can also see boiling volcanoes here. In other words, it is a place that will appeal to different interests. Me? I couldn't go because of time constraint 🙁

3. Ismayilli

From here, the beauty of the Caucasus Mountains begins to welcome you. It is possible to reach this city, which is 185 km from Baku, by bus from Baku. In addition to the Azeris, this region, where many ethnic groups live, is inhabited by different groups such as Lezgins, Malakans and Jews. Handicrafts are very common.

The Lahiç village of Ismayilli is one of the most well-known villages, the protected village stands out among the Caucasian valleys with its natural beauty. This village was also in my itinerary. There are mosques and fountains from the 17th and 18th centuries in the village. There are also campsites, hotels and hostels, which are very suitable for trekking and staying.

We had the chance to visit the primary school in this village. Although it was a very simple village school, it was clear from all classes of the school how much importance was attached to art and science in the education system. Also, a huge chess room caught our attention. The principal of the school was very happy to show us around the school 🙂

Sheki is one of the oldest settlements in the Caucasus, with a history of 2500 years. Located on the Silk Road, this city is also an important production point for artisans and craftsmen. Sheki is a very beautiful city with its silk, pine embroideries and caravanserais, which should definitely be seen, with its back leaning on the Cascafs. You should also try the Sheki cuisine while you are there. “Şeki Pitis” is my favorite dish.

You can see the best examples of Azerbaijani architecture here.

It is possible to reach this city, which is 385 km from Baku, by bus and train.

5. Ganja

Ganja is the country's second largest city after Baku. There are also direct flights from Istanbul to here. It is possible to reach Ganja city, which is 375 km from Baku, by train and bus from Baku.

Ganja, which is not on my route, is also known as the homeland of the famous Azerbaijani poet Nizami and many other artists.

6. Quba

The city of Quba is one of the Azeri cities that draws attention with its natural beauties. This is a center that will attract nature lovers such as waterfalls, valleys and healing springs. Pegasus Airlines has just recently started flying direct from Istanbul to Quba. Quba is also only 170 km from Baku.

Another important feature of Quba is that Hınalık Village is within the borders of Quba. Kınaliq (Hınalık) is one of the highest settlements in the world and an ancient village with a history of 5000 years. Their unique language is one of the distinctive features of the region. There is still an Atesgah in this village, which was an atheist until the 7th century. I did not have the opportunity to see it, but if you have time, I say take it into your plans.

7. Lankaren

Lankaren is one of the cities closest to the Iranian border. This is a city known for its beautiful nature, hot springs and historical baths, mosques and tombs. My road did not fall to Lankaren.

Currency in Azerbaijan

currency in Azerbaijan as manatee used, its short code is AZN.

I hope I have aroused some curiosity for those who are considering going to Azerbaijan. Don't think that Azerbaijan consists of Baku. Thanks to the Caucasus and the Caspian Sea, a magnificent nature, examples of advanced crafts with the Silk Road effect, and fine cuisine will be waiting for you.
