I made my first trip abroad in Italy in 2005. I studied and worked at the same time during my university years, so it was time to travel only when I finished university and started earning a decent amount of money. First, I started traveling in Turkey. But my mind was always abroad. In those years, concepts such as cheap air tickets and easy travel did not exist yet. Not many people go abroad anyway. I have Italy on my mind. I'm trying to convince my friends, it was his passport, his visa, nobody wants to deal with it. My first overseas trip Italy trip notes, My experiences of going abroad for the first time waiting for you in this article!

First Abroad Experience

I have Italy on my mind. I'm trying to convince my friends, it was his passport, his visa, nobody wants to mess with and come with me.

Since no one is coming, I decide to make my first trip abroad with a tour. I am buying a “classic tour of Italy” from one of the biggest and most expensive tour companies of those years.

There were several reasons why I went with the tour:

  • I didn't want to be alone because there was no one to come with me.
  • It's my first time going abroad, I thought I'd learn the way.
  • I have English but not Italian, I thought it would be easy to travel without communication problems.

Now I realize how unfounded my worries were, but at the time I didn't know yet. After gaining some experienceHow to Travel a Lot?“I shared what I learned in my article.

The tour route included Rome, Vatican, Florence, Pisa, Venice, Verona and Lake Garda. On the first day we started our trip in Rome with the Vatican. But there was a problem: The guide is pushing ahead, we are trying to catch up with him. I went to Italy for the first time, everything I see looks very impressive and beautiful to me. Every time I stop, I lose the band.

At the end of the first day, I gave up traveling with the tour group. When the car dropped us off at the city center, I learned from the guide where we would meet for the return trip and I left the group. On the second day, I went to the Vatican again and wandered around to the fullest, because on the first day, the taste remained in my mouth.

Let me add one more note: Although the hotels in the city center were mentioned in the tour introduction, all the hotels were at least 15-20 km outside the city.

I left the tour, but I studied my lesson, where to visit and what to eat… I got it from Berlitz's pocket guidebooks. It was very helpful while traveling. There was a map inside, it told both history and places to visit.

This is how the idea of blogging came about. The Turkish written source “at that time” was almost non-existent.

Italy experiences

Our Similarities with Italians

The Italians are so similar to us that everywhere I went I was treated like a tourist because they thought I was Italian. They are not just similar in appearance. Traffic problems, irregularities, tastes of food… Especially in Rome, you feel like you are in small Istanbul.

Security in Italy

In Italy, you see a lot of police in busy places, especially during the rush hour of the day. Especially as we go from the north to the south of Italy, the beggars living on the street are too many to look for the ones in us.

Parallel to this, security problems are starting to emerge. I didn't have a problem, but there were a lot of snatching problems in those years.

Hot, Excited Italians

What amuses me most in Italy is the way Italians speak. It's like they're all actors... They use so many gestures and facial expressions that even if you don't understand what they are saying on the street in the subway, you can have fun by watching them.

Traffic in Italy

Traffic problems in urban transportation are at a serious level like ours. Since the subway networks are not widespread, many buses, subways, trolleybuses, trams are on almost all streets. That's why the wires on the tops of the streets covered the cities like a spider web. They create pollution in photos 🙁

Motorcycles are the way to overcome the traffic problem. From the biggest to the smallest, the sky is the motor, especially the scooter. Old and young, men and women, everyone uses scooters. I hope we get to that point soon.

I made my trip to Italy by train. While traveling between cities by train, I had the chance to see Tuscany's vineyards and the fertile plains of the Arno and Tiber rivers. It looks so much like our Aegean coasts, you'd be surprised...

  1. Italy is also very special for me.. Florence, Pisa, Rome, Venice.. All of them have different flavors for me.. And yes, their way of speaking impresses me as well. It's fun for them to talk by stretching out the words 🙂

  2. Hello,

Italy is a country that has a very, very special place for me. I went three times and each time I fell in love with this country again. It is a country that I will go to without getting bored. I went for the first time in 2008 and that's when the "Italian Dream" began for me, literally. I was fascinated by its nature, history, people, language and food. Each city is beautiful and full of surprises. Its lakes, mountains and plains take people on a different journey. I made my first trip to Italy with ZNF Tourism, since it is an expert and experienced agency, I had no problems, so I preferred to do my other two trips with them.

  3. We were in Italy as a family between 27 June and 4 July 2010.

We left our Rome FCO round trip car from Sabiha GÖKÇEN airport to the car park with Blu express (Blu Panorama) and the credit cards of 2 different banks are discounted, and the vehicle is not a problem for you when you come or go.
We visited all the places to visit in Rome, day and night, both in different ways, we used public transport. The daily cards expire at 23:59. We rented a car from Termini and toured Siena, San Gimilgiano, Pisa, Florence, Padova, Venice Murano and Burano islands, Verona, Lake Garda and left the car at the FCO airport.
It is cheaper to pick up and drop off at the airport from Temrini, and more expensive to pick up and drop off at the airport. Since we arrived late at night, we took the car from Termini yesterday. Car rental services close after 23:30 at night.
It makes more sense to pick up a car from the airport and drop it off at the airport.
Car rental pick-up and drop-off at FCO airport underground garage C section 4th floor

Fuel prices on highways are expensive compared to the city, and the prices of all stations on the highway are written on a sign. Everything is very easy with TOM TOM GPs, highways 130 km speed limited GPS also warns.
If you pay attention to the ZTL traffic-free areas in the city, there is no problem.
Parking spaces in Siena, San Gimilgiano and Pisa are always close to famous places to visit, 2 euros per hour. 1.20 euros.
We did not go to Venice by car because it is easy to get there, but there is a long queue for the car to enter and exit the garage.
Most gas stations are closed at night and self-service.
When you take a receipt at the entrance of the highway, read the receipt at the exit, and then insert the credit card into the same slot, the price is paid and the lever goes up. It is possible to pay the highway price in cash. The fees I pay on the highway are:
    Rome-Siena 9.60, Pisa-Florence 9.60, Florence-Padova 13.10, Verona –Rome 31.50
We stayed in Padova for Venice and went to Venice by train. It is possible to buy 2nd class train tickets at Tabaco shops for 2,90 Euros.
A 12-hour ferry ticket costs 16 euros. It is necessary to bargain well in Goldol, we as a family of 4 people boarded for 60 euros.
Our tour was very good from start to finish, and I wanted to share it with you.
