Florence, Capital of Art, Places to Visit

We leave Venice behind and hop on the train. Our train journey, which will take about three hours, passes through the vineyards and carries us towards the Tuscany Region.

When we get off the train in Florence, a lot of motorcycles welcome us. The train station is a few minutes walk from the city centre. Our hotel is right on that road. We leave our belongings and run around the city. Florence is in shambles. Traffic, street vendors, crowds…

Second time to Florence, first Italy tour I did when I went abroad for the first time I came with you, this time to take a walk.

Places to Visit in Florence

Florence is generally a flat city. Attractions in the city are within walking distance. You can spend a few days exploring the city and visiting the museums. If we look at the list of places to visit in Florence in detail;

Florence Duomo

Florence Duomo

Duomo means the biggest church in the city. For this reason, you will meet the Duomo in many cities in Italy. The square where the Duomo is located is also the heart of my city, Florence. The square is small, it's hard to get the right angle to take a full picture of the duomo. A wide-angle lens would be great here. The inside of the Duomo is not as impressive as the outside. They spent all the effort on the outside, the inside is extremely plain.

Sirler Square

After the Duomo, we go to Sörler's Square, where Michelangelo's famous David statue is located. Let's see what David is being restored. We can't see it. But the statue of Zeus is stunning. Other statues in the square are really worth seeing. One cannot help asking how they made those sculptures in such detail.

Medici Palace

The Medici family is the family that directs the fate of Florence. They used their wealth to support the arts. The family lived in this palace for many years. Now it is used as the governor's office.

Uffuzi Museum

From Sirler's Square we are heading towards the banks of the Arno river. We pass by the statues of famous thinkers, writers and painters in front of the Uffuzi museum. The museum is a must-see for those who want to see the history and culture of Florence. If you buy your ticket online before you go, you will avoid waiting in line at the entrance. If you are interested in art, I recommend taking half a day to visit the museum.

Ponte Vecchio Bridge

After the Uffuzi Museum, we come across the Ponte Vecchio Bridge, which brings the two sides of the Arno river together. The view from afar is really beautiful. Without these rivers and seas, what would beautify cities? It is one of the rare examples of "bridges with bazaars" in the world, with its shops on the Ponte Vecchio Bridge. Guess where another example is? Irgandı Bridge in Bursa.

When we get to the top of the bridge, we encounter something interesting. There is a statue surrounded by a fence, and a lot of locks on those bars. Lovers have locked their love here. Then we will see them in Pisa and Rome.

Michelangelo Hill

We cross the bridge and sunbathe in the garden of the Pitti Palace, just ahead, the weather is so beautiful. We intend to climb the Michelangelo hill, but our feet do not want to rise above a few days of fatigue. Don't miss the hill, there is a magnificent view of Florence from here, the wide views of Florence you see above have always been taken from this hill.

Marcelo San Lorenzo

We pass the Arno again and continue to wander around the streets of Florence. We pass through a street where there are two doner kebab shops, Mavi and Istanbul, and go to Marceto San Lorenzo, where we learn that there is a huge market place.

We are walking around resting and looking at the famous examples of Florence's leatherwork. We are looking, we are not looking. In our country, we have the opportunity to buy better quality at a cheaper price. For dinner, we dive into the street where there are many restaurants right next to the Duomo to eat Florence's famous steak.

A delicious meal, now the weight is slowly collapsing. The next day, the journey will continue again, we return to our hotel.

Stay on track!

"Does he who reads a lot or travels a lot?" I started by saying, I am still looking for an answer. I travel after my dreams and share my experiences on my blog, newspapers and magazines. I love to travel, read, write and dream.

  1. About 10 years later, I read your Florence article with the same enthusiasm. 🙂 It was a very good article, it does not bore the reader.
I also want to visit Florence this summer if I get the chance. I am especially curious about the Florence cathedral.
Your articles become an important reference source for us travelers before they travel.
    Thank you.

  2. I'm very sorry. I want to reach the person who wrote about this Italy. I'm going to participate in a 1-week tour with a friend of mine and we are students. We are a bit ignorant, but we are looking for someone who can help. thanks
