Warnings About Dining in Budapest

Budapest is not only rich in food options, but also assertive about food prices. Therefore, I recommend that you pay attention to the following issues:

  • It is a good idea to check if the prices are tax-included in the menu you get at any place you go in Budapest.
  • In addition, 10-15% tip can sometimes be added to the bill, I suggest you evaluate the prices by considering that.

The reason why I gave the prices in this article in euros is that the Hungarian Forint will not mean anything to you, so I mostly used the expression "approximately" while writing the prices.

What to Eat in Budapest Budapest Food

Goulash may be the first dish that comes to mind when talking about what to eat in Budapest. Yes, although goulash is one of the traditional Hungarian dishes, it would be unfair to restrict Hungarian cuisine to goulash only. Let's first look at what to eat in Budapest, what to eat in Budapest.

langos

Langos, Budapest's famous street food. It's actually the same as ours. Classic langos are served with a plate-sized bagel underneath, cream on top, and grated cheese on top of the cream. You can add additional material if you wish. It is possible to see langos in many places while walking on the streets.

Paprika

Paprika

Whatever you call the traditional Hungarian spice, you get the answer of dried red pepper, namely paprika. They give names such as chicken with paprika (chicken paprika), meat with paprika to dishes made with paprika. It's a very familiar flavor to us. The first photo below is spice, the second photo is paprika served as food.

Goulash

We said goulash, a traditional Hungarian dish. You can see goulash on the menus of almost every country in Eastern Europe, but its main origin is Hungary. Although it is actually referred to as "Çorda", it is a hearty meal, it contains vegetables and meat. It is served in bowls made of bread in places that want to capture a more touristic image, we ate goulash at Most Bistro, its presentation was as follows and its taste was also very good. You can find goulash soup for around 6-7 euros in many places.

Hungarian Salami

One of the two things you will see most in the shop windows in Budapest is salami and the other is paprika. Hungarian salami is really famous. It is mostly made from pork, if you search, you can find some made from cow meat.

Duck

It is possible to come across duck dishes frequently in Budapest and in Eastern European countries. Below you can see the duck presentation we ate at Most Bistro. You will see that the duck is cooked in different ways and enters the menus.

Budapest Breakfast Places

Budapest is a city where you can find much richer options for breakfast places compared to many other European countries. Many places offer rich options made with ingredients such as eggs, sausages and croissants for breakfast.

We chose Anna Cafe for breakfast on the first day in Budapest, and preferred to prepare our breakfast in the apartment we stayed in, so that it would be more economical and healthy in the following days.

Anna Cafe

Anna Cafe
Anna Cafe

Anna Cafe is a cafe chain with several branches in the most central points of Budapest. Vaci Utca, Budapest's most touristic street, has a branch at the beginning and at the end.

Since I had breakfast at Anna Cafe when I came to Budapest before and was satisfied, we wanted to have our breakfast here again. But this time Budapest food prices it made us a little sad.

We paid 25 euros for the breakfast you see in the photo below, which consists of omelette, sausage and coffee for two people, including tip. The eggs and coffee were both pretty good, but multiplied by the euro rate, the price we paid for this simple breakfast seemed high to us.

If we write in euro on the invoice;

  • Coffee: 2.80 euro x 2
  • Eggs: 7.80 euro x 2
  • Service fee: 3 euros

Cage of the Parliament Building

When the price of breakfast at Anna Cafe was high for us, my eyes began to examine the prices in the places we entered more closely. There is a cafeteria in the parliament building, where there are similar alternatives such as eggs, sandwiches and croissants. Prices are also quite affordable compared to Anne Cafe. You can come in the morning and have your breakfast here and then visit the Parliament Building.

Other Budapest Breakfast Places

I have a friend who lives in Budapest part-time at the venues below. Yeser Sariyildiz suggested. I am sharing it directly as he wrote it.

  • Solinfo Cafe: In Wesselenyi Utca, the French toast is pretty good.
  • blue bird: In Gozsdu Udvar, all is well.
  • At table: At Wesselenyi Utca, their Egg benedicts are good.
  • fat breast

Budapest Restaurants

You can find restaurants for every taste and budget in Budapest. Below you can find a list of Budapest restaurants that I have tried or been recommended to me.

Most Bistro

Most Bistro

Where we go, we prefer to go to a nice place where we can skip our morning and lunch meals and taste the specialties of the place we go for dinner. We found Most Bistro when we searched for a nice place in Budapest and to be close to where we were staying. We were very pleased with the food, service and venue. The place also has a garden, I'm sure the garden is very enjoyable in hot months.

We paid about 3 euros per person for a 4 course meal, 20 beers, which is not bad for a place like this. We probably would have paid much more for similar quality in Istanbul.

Mon Cheri Coffee Shop

Since the time we went to Budapest coincided with a very cold period, we often had to take a break for a hot drink. This is how we discovered Mon Cheri Coffee Shop near the Great Synagogue. Mon Cheri is one of the chain cafes. It has managed to win our hearts with its various coffees and fresh desserts.

You can buy coffee for about 2 euros and desserts for 1,5 euros. I would definitely recommend.

Retro Langos Buffet

Retro Langos Buffet was the most mentioned place in the food suggestions I received on my way to Budapest. Located very close to Deak Square, the buffet only does langos and drinks. It deserves to be famous, the classic langos we ate were really delicious.

We paid about 2,5 euros for classic langos.

barbeque bar

If you are tired of traditional Hungarian dishes, Budapest is also very rich in terms of world cuisine. We thought we'd have an American-style barbecue one evening. The service you see in the photo below is a set menu for 2 people. You can choose the side dishes you want to take with the meat cooked on the barbecue from the menu.

We paid a total of 37 euros for this meal and its drinks.

Szimpla Kert

Szimpla Kert
Szimpla Kert

Budapest's most famous nightclub is Szimpla Kert. It is very popular in Budapest to turn old derelict, half-ruined buildings into bars and nightclubs. ruin bar is trying.

Szimpla Kert, formed by the merging of several buildings one after the other, is a place where you can find high-pitched music, drinks, hookah, food, and a must-visit for anyone who goes to Budapest.

Standard 50 cc, beer price is around 2,2 euros.

Street Food Caravan Budapest

Street Food Caravan Budapest is a place where street food caravans gather in a courtyard on the street where Szimpla Kert is. I had a few meals here since the place we stayed in my previous Budapest trip was very close to here. However, it was closed on my last visit, they closed it during the winter season. You can visit here in spring and summer. There is a wide selection of food and alcohol inside, from Hungarian food to Mexican food to sandwiches.

Jamie Oliver

You may have heard of world-famous chef and television host Jamie Oliver. He opened a restaurant in Istanbul, Zorlu, for a while, but he got a reaction because he never came to his own restaurant.

Jamie Oliver has a pizza restaurant in Gozsdu Udvar Passage. The simplest Margarita pizza starts at 7 euro. If we consider it in euros, the prices are not bad.

Budapest Central Market Hall

Budapest Central Market Hall
Budapest Central Market Hall

One of the most touristic places in Budapest is the Central Market Hall, which is an indoor market place. Here you can find both local food and many souvenir shops.

A part of the upper floor is completely reserved for dining areas. You can find all traditional dishes here. It is closed on Sundays, so plan accordingly. And the food court gets very crowded so be prepared to wait in line.

Zing Burger

Budapest's local hamburger chain Zing Burger. Before we set off on the last day, we said let's fill our stomach quickly and entered here. Their burgers were really delicious, at the level of our gourmet burgers, don't miss the burger place. We paid 8,5 euros per person for a menu with fries and a drink.

Other Budapest Restaurants

Again, I am adding the list of restaurants that Yeşer recommended here, if you want to try;

  • Ghetto Gulyas: On Wesselenyi Utca. It's terrific to try Hungarian food. It gets full, stop by and get a rez. I say eat beef stew in red wine.
  • Epic Burger: Everything is delicious at Epic Burger on Dohany Utca, but the service is a bit slow.
  • Bbz bar&grill: very nice place. It can be preferred for cocktails and dinner in the evening, Hungarian dishes are also good. I say try the chicken.
  • Budapest: At Kiraly Utca. It has a hamburger and a taco restaurant.
  • Gringos Amigos: Again Mexican restaurant, local and delicious.
  • Buddha Original: Thai cuisine, they are very successful.
  • Drum Cafe: The shopkeepers' restaurant is very full, but if you find a place, you can go.

Turkish Restaurants in Budapest

If you are looking for a Turkish restaurant in the places you go, I am definitely not, Budapest is a paradise for you. There is a Turkish restaurant at the beginning of the step. If you see the Török Etterem sign, it means a Turkish restaurant. Turkish Restaurants in Budapest; It offers many options such as doner restaurant, kebab restaurant and home cooked meals.
