Macaristancapital of Budapest's airport has the same name as Budapest. Budapest Airport passes as. That's why it's so easy to remember 🙂 Its abbreviation is BUD, which is practical. You will find general information about Budapest Airport and details about transportation to Budapest city center in this article.

Budapest Airport and Transportation in Budapest

a cute little Europe Airport Budapest airport. There is an exchange office, tourist information office, car rental, market, almost everything that can meet your main needs.

If you are going to wait for your flight at Budapest airport, there are many seats and sockets where you can charge your phone when you pass through the gates in the departures section.

If you ask if you can sleep at Budapest Airport, you can sleep in the seats in the waiting area after the departure gates, but if you have left the incoming passenger and you have to wait in that area, unfortunately there is no suitable area where you can wait or sleep.

Don't Exchange Currency at Budapest Airport!

When I made a reservation for the hostel I will stay in Budapest, there was the following note in the message they sent me.

Do not change money at train station / airport   Because the rate is very bad there. You here can pay in euro, if that's better for you. The normal rate of EUR 1 = HUF 300-315, is 0.3% commission You find good exchange offices nearby, at Astoria, Deak Ferenc, Blaha Metro Stations.

In summary; "Don't exchange currency at the airport or train station," he said. What a difference it can be, when I saw the rate in the city center, I realized that I lost almost 20% because of the USD I exchanged saying that I would take the bus to go to the city center. Luckily I didn't exchange much money. Be you, do not change money at the airport. If you ask how to get on the bus, there are kiosks everywhere where you can buy tickets with your credit card. Even the bank rate is better than the airport.

Transportation from Budapest Airport to the City Center

If you have come to Budapest by plane, my preferred way to get to the city center is to go to the hostel I am staying at. “How can I get from Budapest airport to hostel the cheapest?” was to ask

There are different ways to get from Budapest airport to the city centre:

  • Bus (100E and 200E)
  • Train
  • Minibus (shuttle) – www.airportshuttle.hu You can view the details at.
  • Taxi – costs about 24 euros to the city centre.

Transportation from Budapest Airport by Bus

Bus Number 200E: You can use the 200E bus right at the exit of the airport. Only if you get off this bus at Kobyana Kispet stop, it is also the starting point of bus terminal 2 (Terminal 2) and Metro line 3.

You can switch to other Metro lines from a stop or transfer point close to your accommodation. Each ticket is 350HUF ie Hungarian Forint in Hungarian currency.

Depending on the landing time of your plane, the final stops of 200E vary.

  • From 04:30 to 23:50, bus number 200E provides service to Kobyana Kispet stop.
  • Between 00:00 and 04:30 at night, bus number 200E provides service until Hatat Ut bus stop.

Transportation in Budapest changes during the day and night. When you land at the airport, there is an information office where you can get information about transportation. If you stop by and get the "Budapest Transport" booklet, all the details are in that booklet.

Bus Number 100E: Another bus stop at the airport exit is bus number 100E. 100E Kalvin Ter stands at Astoria Mall and Deak Ferenc Square. Deak Ferenc is already the most central point of the city.

100E is used as Airport Shuttle and ticket price is 900 Forint. We used this bus both on the way and back, and it was very crowded both times, I suggest you make a plan considering that you will travel for about 40 minutes on foot.

For both buses, you must validate the tickets before boarding the bus.

Transportation from Budapest Airport by Train

There is also transportation by train, but I did not try it, but as I read on the Budapest Airport website, it is also possible to reach by train.

The closest train station to Budapest airport is Ferihegy. About 100 trains pass through this stop every day and you can reach the city center in less than half an hour.

  1. I bought a daily ticket from the machine, 1650 huf. I got on the subway, tram and Oyobus. Only metro entrances are controlled. The officer does not even look at the validity time, he does not stay with the officer after 9 pm. You can easily get on the trams and buses, you can already get on and off the door you want.

  2. With the 350 huf ticket bought from the airport, can I transfer to the metro with the same ticket after 200E, or should I buy the 530 huf transfer ticket? Thank you

    • I remember that we had a separate ticket, but believe me, I couldn't remember. It would be great if you ask the tourist information at the airport.

  3. Hello Ms. Sevil,

    Thanks for your article.
I will be in Budapest for a week on 25 November with my daughter and wife.
You said you need to validate the tickets on boarding, could you please open them?
Also, do you think it would be right to choose which vehicle with my 4-year-old daughter and her pram.
Do you think we will have trouble on the bus with the pram?

    Thank you.

    • I couldn't find where I said you have to validate the tickets on boarding, I wonder if you are talking about another place 🙂

If you take the bus with a pram in the city you live in, you can also take the bus in Budapest. There is also a photo of the orobus in the article, a normal bus we know…

  4. You can also use Uber to go from the airport to the city. http://www.uber.com A kind of taxi service that also operates in Turkey. Service in Turkey is more expensive than regular taxi fare with private driver and luxury vehicles. However, with UberX abroad, people use their personal cars like taxis to take you anywhere you want cheaper than the taxi fare. If you have a smartphone and you are using a data package abroad, you can call a taxi with the Uber application and pay with a credit card through the application. Our airport-city trip cost 4.000 Huf. Around 13-15 €. It is a good alternative if you are traveling with lots of luggage and crowded. In addition, we have seen its benefits in places where there is no bus or metro in the city.
