Mexico Trip Total Cost

The cost per person of our one-week trip to Mexico was 1277 Usd. I went on this trip with my husband, so I will suggest that you take into account that we share our expenses such as accommodation and car rental in half.

I tried to make the cost items of the Mexico trip the main headings, I wrote all the costs in USD, I rounded some numbers so that they are not too fractional, I will also write the exact figures in Mexican Peso in the travel articles of the relevant places (I hope :)).

To have an owner about the cost and understand how many days we traveled on a route Mexico itinerary I suggest you take a look at my post.

Mexico Trip Transportation Cost

The main cost item of our Mexico trip, as in many other travels, is transportation. We spent 1277 USD of our total cost of 798 USD for transportation.

  • We bought our Istanbul-Mexico City round-trip flight tickets for 5 Usd 543 months before we set off with Air France's Black Friday campaign.
  • We flew from Mexico City to Merida, which is considered the capital of the Yucatan Peninsula, as the 5 days of our trip were spent in the Yucatan Peninsula. Round trip Mexico City-Merida flight tickets cost 147 USD with Interjet airlines. There were also airline companies with cheaper flights in Mexico, but we preferred Interjet because we read too many flight cancellations on the internet and our time was limited.
  • We rented a car so we can move quickly in the Yucatan Peninsula and have the flexibility to stop and stay wherever we want. 5 days car rental cost 68 Usd in total, 34 Usd per person. Our vehicle was a middle class, automatic transmission Chevrolet, it was a vehicle that did not have any luxury but did the job. Most of the cars on the road in Mexico are Chevrolets.

  • Gasoline expenditure for 5 days was 60 USD in total and 30 USD per person.
  • In the Yucatan Peninsula, it is necessary to use the highway to go fast between Valladolid, Cancun and Tulum. We paid a total of 34 Usd as highway toll, 17 Usd per person.
  • When you rent a car, the parking fee inevitably followed. In the city centers, we left the car in the parking lot only in Merida, in other cities there was no problem in the streets. All of the ancient cities in the Yucatan peninsula charge parking fees, we paid them 7 USD in total.
  • We went to Teotihuacan Ancient City by bus from Mexico City, with a 45-minute journey. The round trip bus cost 6 usd.
  • We used Uber frequently in Mexico City, it costs 20TL from the airport to the city center, for example, we said it's not worth getting in and out of the subway with our bags. After getting used to it, we used Uber for long distances. Extremely reliable and practical Uber, I used it easily because I'm already a full Uber lover. Our Uber Taxi expenses amounted to 13 USD per person.
  • Mexico City has a fairly extensive metro network. You can reach almost anywhere by metro and a one-way ticket costs 5 pesos or 0,23 USD. We also used the subway when we did not use Uber, the expenses of the subway did not even cost 1 usd.

Mexico Trip Accommodation Cost

We had an 8 night hotel stay in Mexico. The places we stayed were generally modest and cute places that met the criteria of being central and clean. Our total accommodation cost per person was 137,5 USD. So on average 17 usd per night. Some places we stayed had breakfast, some didn't. I was generally satisfied with the place we stayed in Merida for the first night. I am sharing the links of the hotels we stayed below:

Mexico Trip Food and Drink Cost

On each trip, I write down everything we ate and drank along the way, down to the market and water. We spent 124 Usd per person on food and beverage in Mexico. If we think that we ate and drank for 9 days, we paid around 13-14 USD per day for food and drink.

It is not recommended to drink tap water in Mexico, and when the weather was so hot, we drank wildly. When we say tacos and margaritas, 13-14 USD per day is not bad at all. Tacos, the famous dish of Mexico, cost between 10-50 pesos. If you eat on the street, it can be 10 pesos (about 0,50 USD), and if you eat in a nice place, it can go up to 50 pesos. Their size and content are very variable, and I will also explain it in my Mexican food article.

Mexico Tour Ruins and Museum Entry Costs

There is absolutely no standard for the entrance fees to the ruins in Mexico. A small museum in the city costs 75 pesos, while the huge ancient city of Teotihuacan charges 75 pesos, but you also pay a parking fee of 481 pesos for Chichen Itza entrance and 80 pesos for parking… Cenote Zaci entrance is 30 pesos, while Dos Ojos entrance is 380 pesos. you pay. Those who run the cenotes are all separate businesses, so there is no specific price policy, but I would expect a standard in museums and ruins.

Let's get to the details;

  • We paid 2 USD per person for 120 cenote dives in Tulum, transportation and snacks.
  • We paid 97 USD for the entrance to the museums and ruins. The most expensive is Chichen Itza with 27 Usd, the ancient cities of Uxmal with 23 Usd.

I use an offline application called PayBack to keep track of all these expenses. If you want to keep track of your travel expenses, you can use it.

Mexico has been a very enjoyable trip for us, which is engraved in our memories and remains on our palate. It is definitely one of the places to go when cheap flight tickets are caught.

  1. We had a 2018-day trip to Mexico in December 20. We had concerns before we went, but as we traveled, we realized that it was quite unnecessary. We traveled a total of 3,000 km by bus, and I can say that it is the only country I would like to go to again if we have the opportunity.
