We had bought our Istanbul-Mexico City tickets with a connecting flight to Paris for 543 USD from Air France's Black Friday discounts months ago. So our departure and return will be from Mexico City. We have shaped our route accordingly.

Mexico Travel Plan

Then if you're ready, I'm going to start telling you about our 1-week Mexico trip plan!

Day 1: Istanbul – Merida

Our Mexico journey starts at 05:00 on Saturday morning at Istanbul Ataturk Airport. We set off with the sadness of flying from Atatürk Airport for the last time.

We will not leave the airport as we have a short waiting time on our connecting flight to Paris. Since I guessed that there would be a question about transit flights here immediately. Visa for transit flights I leave the link of my article about it.

Mexico requires a visa from Turkish Citizens, Details about Mexico visa in my post.

Although our flight time is more than 20 hours as we are heading west, we reach Mexico City in the afternoon of the same day. We will immediately continue to the Yucatan Peninsula. The flight from Mexico City to Merida is about 2 hours. Our goal is to reach Merida at 21:40 on Saturday evening.

We hired a car from Merida to be able to move quickly in the Yucatan peninsula. I will write about our car rental experiences in Mexico in detail on our return.

Accommodation in Merida: Hotel Hacienda Cortes

Day 2: Uxmal, Kabah, Valladolid

Don't worry that we landed in Merida, we hit the road right away on the second day and our Mexican cultural tour begins with the Maya city of Uxmal, which is close to Merida. We also included the city of Izamal, between Merida and Valladolid, in our route. Our goal is to finish the day in the city of Valladolid.

Valladolid, the famous Mayan city Chichén Itzá We chose Valladolid as an intermediate stop because it is close to .

Valladolid Accommodation: Ka'an Guest House

Day 3: Valladolid, Chichén Itzá, Cenote Ik-kil

A very busy day will be waiting for us. After visiting the center of Valladolid in the morning, we will visit Chichen Itza and start to see the cenotes, which are the famous sinkholes of Mexico. We put a lot of cenotes on our list, but we will decide which ones we will go to according to our time, good luck.

Our goal is to end the day in Tulum. Sooner or later we will reach Tulum.

Day 4: Tulum and Cenote Diving

Today we're going to do exactly what I came to Mexico for, Cenote diving. Dos Ojos Cenote and El Pit Cenote near Tulum are diving cenotes. Our goal is to dive into both.

There are also Mayan ruins in Tulum. If we have time to visit them, maybe we can even go to the beach.

Tulum accommodation: Jarro Cafe Tulum Hotel

Day 5: Playa Del Carmen

We came in the middle of our trip, we thought that we were very tired, we had the intention of resting a little and lying on the beach today, but we did not want to leave Tulum without seeing Tulum Ruins and its beach. After swimming in Tulum Ruins and Gran Cenote, we reach Playa Del Carmen in the evening and only take a tour of the city.

Playa Del Carmen Accommodation: Downtown Beach

Day 6: Merida, Mexico City

Since we will be returning to Mexico City from Merida today, we planned to spend the day touring Merida. The old bazaars and colonial streets in Merida city center are worth exploring. We return to Mexico City by plane at 19:15.

Mexico City Accommodation: Hotel Castropol

Day 7: Mexico City, Teotihuacan

Before returning to Mexico City Teotihuacan'We said let's see. We'll be back and forth from Mexico City for the day. We said we would return to Mexico City in the evening and start exploring the city. Since we will be tired in the ancient city, only the Palacio Bella Artes Museum is on our list today.

Day 8 and 9: Mexico City

We spent the last 2 days exploring museums, parks and gardens in Mexico City. We think that it will be active and we will have fun since it will come to the end of the week. Zocalo Square, National Palace, Temple Mayor, Chapultepec, Atropology Museum and Atatürk Statue are on our route on the eighth day.

On the ninth day, we will visit the Frida Kahlo Museum in the morning and Coyacan Market in the afternoon and set off for our return.

Day 10 and 11: Mexico City – Istanbul

Our return journey will begin on Sunday with the 19:15 flight. However, since we are heading east this time, the advantage of the day we won on our way will be a disadvantage this time and it will take Tuesday morning to reach Istanbul.

Our transfer time to Paris is a little longer on the way back. – THEY DID NOT GO – If you are wondering what to do in Paris, places to visit in Paris You can also check my suggestions.

  1. slm, car rental prices are from 13 usd (2019 d price in your article) now 45 usd per day and excluding insurance, so we came across a price of 10 usd for a 458-day car, and the company MEX, got very bad reviews.

    • The fact that the prices have changed, there are great increases in prices all over the world. Also, since Mexico was open while everywhere was closed during the pandemic, demand increased, it is normal for prices to rise when demand increases.

  2. I am sure you will be very tired with this route, but you will have had a wonderful trip, my dear. I will be following your articles with interest.

I think it looks like a trip to Mexico to me too. I am sure the information you have provided will be very useful.

  3. It's been a pretty tight route. I recommend you to prefer Chikin Ha and Angelita duo of cenotes to Dos Ojos and El Pit, if your diving experience is sufficient. Tajma Ha is also among the favorites of divers, but I did not have time. Instead of going from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel, I think you should dive. Underwater is very lively, it won't cut it after Philippines. Don't miss the video mapping show that is projected on the Convent de San Bernardino de Siena wall in Valladolid in the evenings. Lucha Libre is a very fun activity in Mexico City. Ahh Mexico is such a beautiful and special country, there is so much to do. 2 months was not enough. I hope you like it too, you can create the opportunity to go again and again. Have a nice trip 🙂
    Best regards, Mahide
