Vietnam 2nd largest coffee producer in the world. As such, there is a serious coffee consumption in the country. Unlike the methods we know, they brew coffee in the Vietnamese style. When we loved Vietnamese coffees, we bought their special coffee apparatus and Vietnamese coffee and brought it home. First vietnamese coffee I wanted to share our preparation with you.
Ingredients for Making Vietnamese Coffee
Although the list of ingredients for preparing Vietnamese coffee seems easy, I am not sure if you can find the coffee pot outside of Vietnam. Unfortunately, Vietnamese coffee is not easily available in Turkey. If you have been to Vietnam and have a pot and coffee, this recipe will be more useful for you.
The materials you need; An empty coffee cup, coffee pot, hot water, and Vietnamese coffee (or ground coffee that fits any metal filter).
There is a filter at the bottom of the coffee pot, a compression part in the middle and a lid at the top to prevent the coffee from getting cold.
Preparation of Vietnamese Coffee
You can follow the step-by-step photos of how the coffee is prepared.
1. We put the coffee pot on top of the cup we want to drink the coffee from.
2. We put 4 sugar spoons of coffee in the apparatus and spread it evenly. Although the amount of coffee may seem high, let's not forget that we are preparing a coffee with an intense taste.
3. After we put the coffee and spread it on the base of the apparatus, we close the compression apparatus on top and lightly squeeze our coffee. Those who use coffee machines know this process.
4. The total amount of hot water we will use to make coffee is 1/3 of a glass of water. It is good if the water is at a temperature of 100 degrees. We do not put all the water in, first we pour 1/4 of the total water and wait for the coffee to swell a little. When we pour the water suddenly, it quickly goes under and does not get as much coffee aroma as we want.
5. After waiting for 5-10 seconds, add the rest of the water, close the lid and leave it to stand for 2 minutes. We are waiting for the water to drain well into the glass.
6. After 2 minutes, our coffee is ready. However, this is a very intense coffee. You can drink it by adding hot water or milk if you want.
In Vietnam, if you want the coffee with milk, it is made with "condensed milk", that is, milk that has been dehydrated and added sugar. That's why even if you want the coffee without sugar, if you want it with milk, it definitely comes with sugar. If you drink your coffee without sugar, like me, you can ask for "fresh milk", that is, with fresh milk, or you can choose it without milk. Otherwise, it will definitely be sugary, don't say you didn't say it.
If you can find Vietnamese coffee, you can also cook it in the form of filter coffee you know. You don't necessarily have to have this coffee pot.
Bon appetit 🙂
