40 days long as I do at the end of each trip Caucasus travel cost I made a full list for those who say what happened. I had some difficulty in calculating the cost for my trip to the Eastern Black Sea, Georgia and Armenia because while I was on the road, TL lost almost 20% of its value 🙁 Therefore, I decided to take an approximate average and give the costs in TL.

By the way, I use an app called Payback to track my expenses during my trip. Thus, I can easily track how much I have given. Since the application also works offline, it is also good to be able to keep records without the need for an internet connection.

Caucasus Travel Cost

Normally, I cost my travel costs in dollars, so that after 2 years, someone who reads my article will have my article as a reference. However, it would be very difficult to get out of the account when the USD rate, which was 4.8 when I started my trip, went up to 7 TL on the day I returned.

How much did the trip to the Caucasus cost in total?

The total cost of my 40-day trip to the Caucasus was 6115TL. This cost includes all kinds of expenses related to travel, such as transportation, accommodation, food and beverage. I recorded every penny that came out of my pocket until I left Istanbul and returned to Istanbul from Tbilisi.

What Happened to My Average Daily Spending?

My daily average expenditure was 152 TL, and I had set my daily budget as 150 TL on the way out, and I matched it exactly. If we accept the USD exchange rate as 5.5 average, I have spent 27usd per day.

What Happened to the Transportation Cost?

In my trip to the Caucasus, the sum of my round-trip flight tickets and all transportation costs within and between cities was 1564 TL. 681TL of my total transportation cost is my flight tickets, the others are intermediate transportations.

My plane tickets are Istanbul-Giresun round trip, Tbilisi-Istanbul return. In other words, having an international flight increased the cost. If I had more time, I also had b and c plans like returning to Turkey by train from Kars or Van, but I didn't have time for that 🙂

By intermediate transportation, I mean the journeys I make by intercity minibus or bus. Since I change cities frequently both in Turkey, Georgia and Armenia, the cost of intermediate transportation is high.

Also, there is no consistency in transportation prices in Georgia. Between Mestia and Ushguli it is 2 Lari for 40 hours, while between Tbilisi and Kazbegi for 3 hours is 10 Lari.

What Was the Accommodation Cost?

During my 40-day journey, my accommodation expenses amounted to 1959 TL. It costs 49TL per day, but let me remind you that I stay in tents almost halfway down the road, I stay in hostels other than tents in Georgia and Armenia, and I prefer teachers' homes in Turkey to be more economical. Otherwise, if you say that you will stay at the hotel, this figure is of course not possible 🙂

Of course, there is no hostel culture in Turkey, especially in the Eastern Black Sea Region. While the daily hotel costs there are 150TL, I paid 20Lari per night for hostel in Batumi and Mestia, that is about 45TL. I paid around 85TL to the hostel in Armenia. In some places, I did not give money for tent accommodation, while in some places I gave 20-25TL. So it's really hard to give a standard average for the cost of accommodation.

What Happened to the Cost of Food and Beverage?

During my trip, food and beverage was the third highest expenditure item with 1541 TL. I spent my breakfasts mostly in the places I stayed, and my lunches and dinners outside or by cooking myself. 38,5TL per day is not bad for three meals.

Since I also like to consume alcohol, I spent a lot of money on it. If there was no alcohol, I think my cost would be around 30-35TL per day.

Other Expenditures

Since transportation in Armenia is not as comfortable as Georgia, I took two daily tours in Yerevan, the sum of which was 2TL. Apart from these tours, I organized my entire trip myself.

My other expenses amounted to 496 TL, within this figure; I have expenses such as internet package, museum entries, gifts, Armenia visa, laundry.

Where Was My 40-Day Caucasus Route?

East Blacksea

Georgia

Ermenistan

I am also very happy to have completed my trip by staying within the budget I had planned 😊 If you ask if this trip could be made in a much more economical way, of course it is possible, but I did not compromise on my pleasure and aimed for an economical trip, I achieved my goal. It is certain that we need to be more frugal with the new exchange rates.

Stay on track despite exchange rates.
