NorveçAs I decided to go to and bought my plane tickets, we saw in many Norway photos. Troll tongue I started dreaming of your route. To go to Trolltunga; It was necessary to take a 22 km – challenging walk, although I didn't know it when I was planning.

Troll is the forest elf we know, and tunga means tongue, that is, the tongue of the forest elf stretched towards the fjord and I wanted to go to the tip of that tongue. Of course, asking alone is not enough, you need to put some effort into making your wish come true 🙁

How to Get to Trolltunga?

To reach Trolltunga, you must first reach Skjeggedal, the last point accessible by car. Before Skjeggedal there is a settlement called Tyseedal. Although it is said on the blogs that you can walk from there, you can hitchhike or something. Even if it is a 6 km asphalt road, the exit track should not be pushed too hard before 22 km. After reaching Skjeggedal, you can start your 11 km ascent. You have a nice way!

The distance is 22 km, but we should not think of it as a straight road, we are talking about a difficult trekking track of 11 km going-11 km returning. It is a route that continues on snow starting from the 4th km of the road in July. Between 1-4 km there is plenty of exit, muddy and rainy. The whole route takes 8-10 hours on average, hear it and don't believe it 🙂

How to Get Out of Trolltunga?

The Norwegians go out like a Sunday ride with children, but when we started to finish the 3rd km, almost 3 hours had passed and the difficulty of the ascent, rain and cold made us realize that we could not continue any longer. We didn't have enough fitness, although I had all kinds of equipment, I had a hard time carrying my chubby body.

Another mistake we made was to start the route late. By the time we got to Skjeggedal it was past 12:00 noon and it was going to be midnight for us to leave and we didn't dare to walk that road at night time. As a result, the hotel is not waiting for us, but camping is possible, and we do not have camping equipment. So what was it, it was necessary to start the route as early as possible in the morning.

On the way back, with the increase in rain, it became more difficult to move through the mud, meanwhile, a heavy fog had settled. So we consoled ourselves that even if we managed to reach the tip, we probably wouldn't be able to see that famous view.

What to Do to Climb Trolltunga?

If you intend to go to Trolltunga,

It would be beneficial to stay in Odda or Tyseedal and start the route early in the morning. Make sure you are in good condition, if possible, come free of excess weight. Prepare yourself mentally for a challenging course instead of starting to climb with ignorant courage like me.

do i regret it? Of course not 🙂 Even its 3 km route was very beautiful, my admiration for nature increased once again while walking, my eyes filled with its beauty… I would do it again, but I would do it in a more planned way.

Those who are considering going to Norway should definitely take it into their plans. For those who do not trust their fitness, I can recommend Pulpit Rock.

  1. HELLO.6 8 I CLIMBED TROLLTUNGA IN 2016 WITH IGNORANT COURAGE AND FOLLOWING 2 CHILDREN. YOU ARE FACED WITH AN EXTREMELY DIFFICULT ROUTE OF 0-1 KM. A SLOPE OF 60 DECE. RAIN COLD AND WIND ONE OF YOUR CHANCE. EASY IF YOU DON'T COUNT. BUT EVERYTHING IS FORGOTTEN ON THE ROCK WHEN YOU GET THERE. IT TAKES 1 HOURS AND 10 MINUTES TO EXIT. LANDING, 5HOURS15 MINUTES BECAUSE THE KNEE WAS NOT RESISTANT. WATERPROOF SHOES, BARRE, 6 SPARE TOP CLOTHES AND RAIN CLOTHING CONDITION. FERRY BOATS MULTI SERIES NO PROBLEM ANYWHERE ONLY ADD 20 HOUR CLASSIFICATION IF 3 HOURS CLASS.

  2. Thank you for your information. When I look at Google maps, there is a ferry on the Bergen odda road. Did you use that road? Also, where would you recommend me to go other than Bergen? When it comes to places to see, I think I should go to a few places. I'm sorry I tired you 🙂

  3. Hello, I want to get your opinion. If I come to Bergen by train from Oslo, I don't know if it is possible to rent a car there. If I come to Odda or Tyseda by car and stay at the hotel that evening. Early tomorrow morning I will drive to Skjeggedal and park the car and start climbing the 11 km road. On the way back, staying in the same hotel for one evening and returning to Bergen early in the morning. How is this plan? The only decisive factor here is to be able to rent a car. What's your advice? I'm also planning for the summer months, I guess I need to bring winter shoes, right?

    • Hello,

So I rented the car from Bergen. I highly recommend Hertz. There is no problem in your plan, you can do it easily.
You will go in the summer months, but when I went in July, there was rain in the first kilometers, snow after the 4th kilometer, so you definitely need waterproof shoes.
