Who is İsmail Türel?
Before going on to explain the museum, let's get to know the founder of the museum, İsmail Türel. İsmail Türel was born in the Karamanlı district of Burdur in 1954, Karamanlı was not yet a district in those years. After graduating from Isparta Education Institute, he worked as a mathematics teacher for many years.
After his retirement, Türel focused on art studies and started to paint watercolor and acrylic paintings. Türel, whose paintings were exhibited in many places, represented our country at the Art Revolution Taipei International Art Fair between 2016 and 2019.
İsmail Türel is married and has two children. He spends the winter months in Antalya and the spring and summer months mostly in Karamanlı. He takes an active part in the Karamanlı Kemalist Thought Association. He is also our family friend.
Retired teacher and painter İsmail Türel, who is still actively working on painting, organized the house inherited from his grandfather in 2021, turned it into an ethnography museum and opened it to visitors.
Where is İsmail Türel Museum and How to Go to the Museum?
İsmail Türel Museum is located at the intersection of Baldırlar Street and Çömezler Streets in the İstiklal District in the Karamanlı district of Burdur.
To go to the museum, after arriving in Karamanlı with your private car or by public transport, you need to come to Istiklal District, one of the quarters where the old settlement of the district is located, towards the Fethiye exit of Karamanlı. İsmail Türel Museum
İsmail Türel Museum; An ethnography museum, founded in 2021 in the Karamanlı district of Burdur, by retired teacher and painter İsmail Türel, who protects the values of his village and wants to pass it on to future generations. Türel stated the purpose of establishing the museum; He defines it as “I want to leave something from our past to our youth”.
The building of the museum, which İsmail Türel created with the materials of cultural and historical value he collected from his friends, neighbors, relatives and compatriots for 30 years, is a building inherited from his grandfather. The museum building, which is a single-storey traditional Karamanlian house, is used as an exhibition area, both inside and its garden, this is also İsmail Türel's summer painting workshop.
There are many interesting materials from Karakovan to bottles of the wine brand produced in Karamanlı, from spinning wheels to old cameras. In the museum mainly; items used in daily life such as local clothes, kitchen utensils, agricultural materials and horse carriages are exhibited.
Some of the interesting parts of the museum; Bottle belonging to Osman Bey Wines, once produced in Karamanlı, stork mosaic from Yapı Kredi Bank, which once served in Karamanlı, a letter and envelope sent during the Korean War, pumpkin violine, one of the traditional instruments of Teke Region, crescent and star embroidered plate, bellows camera and many more items…

The entrance to the museum is free, as İsmail Türel had no commercial expectations when establishing this museum. The only point you need to pay attention to is that you have to catch the times when Türel Family is in Karamanlı to visit the museum.
