Indonesia is a huge and populous archipelago country consisting of 18 islands. More than 7500 of the islands are inhabited. Although there are thousands of large and small islands, the island communities are gathered under 9 main names.

  1. Sumatra: Famous for its Sumatran coffee and tiger, Sumatra, one of Indonesia's largest island communities, is one of Indonesia's untouched geographies with its volcano hikes, tribes and home to the world's largest flower. We did not add it to our route because it is necessary to allocate a lot of time here.
  2. Java: We can say that the island of Java is the heart of the country. It is possible to reach the other main islands of the country by plane or ferry from this island, where the capital city of Jakarta is located. It is also home to the world-famous Borobodur and Prambanan temples, as well as the Bromo and Ijen volcanoes. The island where we reserved a part of our trip.
  3. Balinese: There are many people who think Bali is a separate country on its own. However, this is a very popular honeymoon destination as well as being the only Buddhist island in Indonesia. It hosts many famous beaches as well as its vibrant social life, interesting Buddhist temples. Since we are on our honeymoon, we said we would not stop by Bali and we reserved a few days here.
  4. Lombok: After Bali, the island of Lombok, which is famous for its beaches, and even the tiny islands of Lombok, the Gili Islands are at least as famous as Lombok. We have never been to this part.
  5. Flowers: Flores, one of Indonesia's less popular and unspoilt islands that still remains untouched, is also home to the island of the famous Komodo Dragons. It is also shown as one of the most beautiful diving spots in the world. We reserved the last part of our honeymoon here, until we returned when we thought we had fallen in heaven.
  6. Borneo: Indonesia divides the island of Borneo with Malaysia. While the north of the island of Borneo is within the borders of Malaysia, the south belongs to Indonesia. This island, which is famous for its rainforests and tribes, deserves to be a separate travel route on its own, so it did not fit in our 2-week Indonesia trip.
  7. Sulawesi: Sulawesi is the 11th largest island in the world and stands out with its different shape consisting of four peninsulas, and is also home to the Toraja tribe, which is known for its houses that attract attention with their different roofs. You can join the trekking tours to go to the tribes and spend time with the untouched nature. As you move away from the central island (Java), transportation becomes more difficult and transportation costs increase. Therefore, if you have time, taking a ferry to this island may be an option. We did not take it into our plans due to time constraints.
  8. Maluku: This is the collection of islands. While it was very popular in the past due to its spices, this is a region that has lost its popularity now.
  9. Papua: Papua, like Borneo, is an island that Indonesia shares with another country. Papua, which is a very precious region due to its gold mines, is also an extremely untouched place where tribal life still continues. Raja Ampat, one of the most famous diving spots in the world, is also located in this region. A paradise for divers.

It is necessary to spare a lot of time to travel Indonesia properly. This is a country where there are many delays in inter-island flights, where you can cross between the islands with long ferry trips, but at the same time, each island is a separate paradise. Not to mention the frequent volcanic eruptions. It is also useful to check the volcano activity before you go.
