I think it was January or February Sri Lanka when i buy my plane ticket. Due to the loan payments of my new house, I canceled my travel plans to distant routes this year and suspended my 2015 travel dreams. Until you get an e-mail. That email was telling me he had a plane ticket to Sri Lanka for 395 euros. Also, I could buy my ticket with the points accumulated on my Adios card, so I could go to Sri Lanka without paying any ticket or tax money. I was happy like kids 🙂

When buying the ticket, there was a 12-15 hour wait in Dubai for departure and return. But I was happy that I would have visited Dubai during these waits. Therefore, my Dubai expenses are not included in this article. But I must say Dubai visa it was quite costly.

We made my trip, which included the Dubai-Sri Lanka route, for 2 people. This made my costs more economical compared to a single person. The only problem was that the dollar rate reached its highest levels just when I went 🙁

As I said, in this article, only my Sri Lanka trip costs will be included. Then let's take a look at my expenses for a week-long trip to Sri Lanka:

Sri Lanka Trip Cost

The cost of my one week trip to Sri Lanka - not including the plane - was 645 usd per person.

If we look at the details;

  • Sri Lanka visa – 30 usd
  • Car rental fee with driver – 250usd per person. I do not write the contact information because I am not satisfied with the driver, but you can easily find alternatives on Tripadvisor.
  • History – Entrance fees to attractions – 132 usd > This was the part that disappointed me the most in Sri Lanka. Although life is very cheap, I can say that the entrance fees shook my budget.
    • Anuradhapura – 25 usd
    • Golden Temple – 10 usd
    • Sigirya – 30 USD
    • Polonaruwa – 25 usd
    • Botanical Garden – 8 usd
    • Temple of Tooth Relic – 7 usd
    • Kandy Dance Show – 7 usd
    • Pinnawale Elephant Orphanage – 20 usd
  • Hotels – 85 usd > Since we have a vehicle, we preferred more economical hotels that are not in the city center. The hotels we stayed in were generally hostel-level private rooms. We were satisfied with all of them except one with lots of insects.
  • Sim card 12 usd – 6 usd per person > We bought a package with both speech, sms and internet, which they sell as a tourist package. We chose to buy it especially because we will need it for communication with the vehicle driver. After the 4th day, our internet package did not work 🙂
  • When I went to Sri Lanka, I bought 20 usd tea.
  • The remaining 92 usd is expenses such as food, souvenirs and markets. If you look at it daily, it's 13 usd per day. For the first few days, we went to the “touristy” places to eat, then we had our meals at the places where the locals go. We could go even cheaper in the food section.

As you can see, the highest expenditure item is car rental and entrance ticket fees. I would be very upset if I didn't see any place on the list while I was in Sri Lanka, so I didn't feel sorry for the entrance fees. When it comes to car rental, it's busy. Our Sri Lanka trip If we preferred public transportation for transportation, it would be very tiring, we would not be able to go everywhere we wanted in this time, and our hotel costs would increase, because we would prefer city centers.

If you ask if it was worth the price for my trip to Sri Lanka, which was my longest trip in 2015, it was definitely worth it. My great luck was not paying for the plane ticket.

I hope one day you will be on your way to Sri Lanka, the paradise country.

Hi, I will go to Sri Lanka with my wife on December 14th. What I want to ask is that you paid a total of 7 usd for your 500-day trip. Apart from that, did you have any expenses for the driver and the vehicle? If you are satisfied with the driver, can I have the contact information? Thanks in advance

  2. What is the weather like at the end of January and beginning of February? Is it possible to swim in the sea?
