I landed in Gaziantep quite early in the morning. Antep's breakfasts are famous, but not with the mixed breakfast we know. Beyran soup, katmer or cartlak kebab with… Yes, what you read is eaten for breakfast. You ate until 10-11 in the morning, otherwise you will not find it. I had planned to eat Beyran soup one morning and katmer the next for my two-day Antep trip.

As soon as you get off the plane, it is an old artisan restaurant very close to Bakırcılar Bazaar. FirmnessWe came to Even though it's 08:00 in the morning, there is almost no place to sit. Cooks and waiters are working hard. Beyran soup looks like head trotter soup made with rice and plenty of spices. This very shabby artisan restaurant is crowded with both Antep residents and tourists. People of Antep chop pita with heaped claws and eat this soup. I preferred to drink juicy water. It's a heavy breakfast for me, but definitely worth a try.

Imagine that the pancake is cooked like lahmacun in a wood fire with cream and peanuts. One is comfortably enough for two people. They also recommended Katmer at Orkide Patisserie or Murat Usta, but we used our one-shot lead at Zekeriya Usta.

Gaziantep Dishes

Pistachio

Pistachio is the secret of many delicious desserts in Gaziantep! Do not return from Antep without buying a souvenir pistachio that suits your heart and budget around the Almacı Market.

Gaziantep Baklava

When we say baklava, of course, the first place that comes to our mind is Gaziantep. It is unthinkable otherwise. Various sizes of baklava, of course, all with lots of cream. Imam Çağdaş is number one in baklava as well as kebabs.

Gaziantep Kebabs

People of Antep are quite used to tourists. When you say where do you recommend, two names are indispensable, and everyone has a common language.

Another old shopkeeper's restaurant in one of the streets behind the Zeugma Museum. Its walls are filled with photos of celebrities. Halil Usta himself greets you at the door with his large size. Rows of tables are packed again. Because it closes after 14:00, then you can't eat the famous Küşneme even if you want to. Kebabs snatched from lamb come to the table in order of plenty of salad, and lastly, küşneme… This is the closing tradition. Küşneme was made from the most valuable part of the sheep's neck. There is no price list at Halil Usta, the master looks at the type of people who come at the checkout and gives a price accordingly. If your top is neat, you are likely to get a pile.

Imam Cagdass

Imam Çağdaş's baklava is famous, it ends early. Do not wait for the last day or the last evening to get a package. Imam Çağdaş's not only baklava but also kebabs presentation and prices are very good. Lahmacun is the best Lahmacun you can eat. Start with Antep style, garlic lahmacun, ali gentle and simit kebab are must-try. Imam Cagdas is indispensable for Antep. Definitely have a meal.

Let's not be unfair, there are definitely better kebab shops, these are the most popular ones.

For me, Hatay is still number one in terms of food, while Gaziantep rightfully took the second place.

Katmerci Zekeriya Usta says: "The people of Antep think about what they will eat that day for 20 hours, and what they will eat tomorrow in the remaining 4 hours..."
