The Blue House – Frida Kahlo Museum

During my trip to Mexico, I had the opportunity to visit the houses where Diego and I lived and which are now used as a museum. The Spanish name of the museum is Casa Azul, meaning the Blue House.

The Blue House is where Frida was born and died. After marrying Diego Rivera, Frida lived in different places in Mexico City and abroad, but always returned to her family home in Coyoacán, Mexico. Located in one of Mexico City's oldest and most beautiful neighborhoods, the Blue House was turned into a museum in 1958, four years after the painter's death. Today it is one of the most popular museums in the Mexican capital. Museo Frida Kahlo, popularly known as Casa Azul (The Blue House), preserves personal items that reveal the private life of Latin America's most famous female artist.

While visiting the museum, Frida's life really passes before your eyes like a film strip. His bed with a mirror on the ceiling, where he painted himself, called a self-potrait. It is a very impressive experience to see the corsets she wears to relieve her pain, the items she uses daily, and the materials she paints.

The Blue House also contains some of the painter's most important works: The Long Alive Life (1954), Frida and Operation Cesarean (1931), and My Father's portrait Wilhelm Kahlo (1952).

If you want to visit the museum, I recommend that you buy tickets from the website in advance. Because there are long queues at the entrance of the museum. Even if you buy tickets online, you get in line, but the queue moves faster. If you want to take photos and videos in the museum, you have to make an additional payment in addition to the ticket you bought, there are staff who constantly check inside.

Frida Movie

In 2002, Frida's life story was transferred to the big screen. Spanish beauty Salma Hayek played the lead role of Frida Kahlo in the film about her art and private life. I think he did a very good job. The movie about Frida's life was nominated for 6 Academy Awards. It also won 2 Oscars for make-up and original music. If you haven't watched it yet, I highly recommend watching it.
