Equipment Required for Camping – List of Camping Equipment

Since I usually go to the camp by car or with a mountaineering club, I don't need to carry my belongings on my back most of the time. The camping equipment list in this article has been prepared accordingly. If you are going camping with a backpack, do not pack all the materials in the list below and go. For any backpacking trip Remember that the lighter you keep your bag, the higher your travel comfort will be.

I went out with a backpack Lycian Way Walk I suggest you take a look at my post.

Another important note is that it is not mandatory to buy all the materials on the list. There is no such thing as not being able to camp just because you don't have an ax (there is no ax on the list). The lists I see on some websites can be quite far from reality. That's why I've added an asterisk (*) next to the ones you must have in the camping gear lists below.

Camping Equipment List

We are going camping, of course our priority is camping gear. “Does one forget camping gear when going camping?” Don't say that, I have friends who went to the camp without a mat or overalls. I met many people who wanted beds, pillows and blankets from the campsite. So keep the checklist in mind.

This list is for people who do not require professional mountaineering knowledge and have little or no previous camping experience. Let me start by reminding you that there may be differences in materials depending on the season, weather, and the region to be visited.

Of course, the must-haves in the camping equipment list are tents, sleeping bags and mats. Let's dive into some details of these materials:

1 - Camping tent*

Camping tent
Camping tent

Definitely a must for camping. camping tent. It is important to choose a tent that is suitable for the time and place you will travel. For example, do not go to the mountains with a summer tent. There are many variables in tent selection, such as the tent's ventilation, minimal exposure to sun or cold, and how many people will use the tent. Determine your needs correctly and buy a tent accordingly.

“How can I buy a tent?” The question comes to me often. If you are going to camp for the first time, I suggest you buy a tent that can be used in 3 seasons (spring, summer, autumn) and is inexpensive. If the bottom of your tent is thin, it's also good to have a tent protector for situations like when you're camping on damp ground. Decathlon's entry-level tents or Evolite, Loop, Husky brand tents will not tire your budget. As you gain experience in camping, you will understand more clearly what kind of tent you need.

For the budget and medium quality tents I mentioned above > CAMP TENT LIST

I have 3 different tents for different occasions: One is Decathlon's 2-person tent, which I use for traveling alone, one is Decathlon's 3-person tent that I use when camping with my wife, and the other is Decathlon's light and lightweight tent that I use for mountaineering activities. A tent in the ultra light category with wind resistance.

2 - Sleeping bag*

Sleeping bag
Sleeping bag

Sleep quality is one of the most important issues when staying in a tent, because you mostly only enter the tent to sleep. As with tents, there are many options for sleeping bags. The overalls you will use in a summer camp should not be the same as the overalls you will use in spring or winter camps. You should choose the type of sleeping bag you will use by looking at the temperature of the place where you will camp. A sleeping bag with a comfort level of around -5 will do the trick in spring and summer. For winter camping, you should definitely buy a more comfortable product that will protect you in cold weather. If you are camping in a very hot period of summer, then even the thinnest “festival overalls” will do the trick, even a pike. However, if you are going to camp in the Black Sea or in a high place, even in summer, you should consider that the air temperature will decrease in the evenings and choose a jumpsuit accordingly.

There are 2 factors that affect the cost of a sleeping bag: the first is the degree of comfort, that is, how many degrees it will keep you warm, and the second is its weight. If you want it to be light and protect me from the cold, you will have to open your wallet a little wider. Products of brands such as Decathlon, Husky, Evolite, Loap will be sufficient for your amateur camps.

The brands I mentioned above are located > SLEEPING BAG LIST

I have three different sleeping bags. One is summer and very light, I always keep it in my bag to use in hostels on my backpacking trips. Another Loap brand -5 comfort level overalls. Finally, a cheap simple jumpsuit, called the festival type, that I only use in the summer to drape over me.

3 - Mat or Inflatable Mattress and Pillow*

Perhaps the hardest part of sleeping in a tent is sleeping on a narrow and hard floor. For me, it's even more comfortable than the most comfortable bed. For sleeping comfort in the tent, you can use a standard mat, an inflatable mat (my favorite) or an air mattress. I have been using an inflatable mat for a long time, it is both comfortable to carry and sleeping comfort. If you buy a standard or inflatable mat, pay attention to its thickness. A very thin mat can make you feel like you are lying directly on the floor. If you are going camping with a backpack, you should choose a mat. However, if you are traveling by car and you don't want to give up on my comfort, then you can choose an air mattress. Do not forget that when you take an inflatable mattress, you will also need to carry the apparatus for inflating it.

A part of the bed, of course, is the pillow. You can choose inflatable pillows or you can use your clothes bag as a pillow like me.

4 - Flashlight or Head Lamp* and Spare Batteries

Camp life requires stepping out of our comfort zone. You will need lighting when you need to search for something inside the tent after dark, when you need to go to the toilet, and more. I use a head lamp because I find the head lamp much more practical, you can choose different types of camping lamps if you want. Make sure you have spare batteries with you to avoid any surprises as these are battery powered.

5 - Portable Chair and Table

We said that camping life requires getting out of your comfort zone, but if you have room for a table and chair, it provides great comfort. Although some organized campsites have camping tables, if you are not sure what to expect where you are going, it is better to bring your own seating set. You can now find folding tables and chairs in different colors, sizes, even in markets. If you are traveling with a backpack and still want to have a camping chair, there are much smaller chairs designed for cyclists, you can choose them.

6 - Necessary Laundry and Spares

Although the issue of necessary laundry is very variable for everyone. Be sure to have a long socks with you, a thick jacket against the risk of cold at night, fleece and something similar. Raincoats always come in handy in camps that get out of the glass at unexpected times. Other than that, it's entirely up to you, so I didn't put a star on this item.

7- Buff

Since I also use this list as my own checklist, I added a Buff to the list in order not to forget. I always carry at least 2 buffs with me on my travels, as I use the buff for different purposes such as hairpins, neck collars, beanies and even to hold something warm when necessary.

8- Garbage Bag*

The most necessary but most forgotten thing when going camping is the garbage bag. Be sure to take a garbage bag with you to avoid leaving any residue behind where you camp. These bags sometimes work as dirty laundry bags and sometimes as raincoats to protect them from the rain. By the way, no matter how you find the place where you camp, don't forget to leave it clean!

9- Whistle, GPS or Compass:

Although there are applications on almost all smartphones now, it would be good to write it here as a reminder. You can download an app if you still don't have it on your phone. It will come in handy if you lose your way. Another way for others to find you easily if you lose your way is to blow the whistle. It would be helpful to have one around your neck or in your pocket.

10 - First Aid Supplies*

Again, an often neglected item is first aid supplies. Have a classic first aid kit with you at all times. You never know what will happen to you in nature. Sometimes a small bottle of ammonia can save a life. Also, if you have medications that you use regularly, do not forget to take them with you.

11 - Duct tape

Although it may sound like duct tape to you, Duct Tape is a thicker tape type that you can find mostly in DIY stores. From repairing your torn tent to putting together your shoes or slippers with a split sole, it has many uses that you may not think of. It helps a lot that I give up taking thin tapes with me on regular trips and Duct Tape in camps.

one - Hammock

Of course, there are also products that no one can interfere with my camping pleasure, the first of which is the hammock. You can find a wide variety of hammocks, from old-style knitted hammocks to new-style folded hammocks. You can even consider buying the ones with mosquito nets and spending the night in a hammock.

13 Camping Luxury

Speaking of pleasure products, the subject of camping is out of control, from camping showers to camping toilets, from camping stoves to inflatable seats. As I said at the beginning, you will determine your own style over time and you will buy the products that suit your needs, do not exaggerate the first time.

  1. The camping equipment list is the most important point to be considered before going camping. Then, the absence of a seemingly unnecessary material can be felt throughout the camp. Therefore, it is useful not to overlook the material list.

    • Sometimes it's easy to find a solution in nature, you shouldn't worry about something missing 🙂
