Amasra Travel Guide and Places to Visit in Amasra

Amasra is a very small city. For this reason, two days is more than enough to travel. If you are coming to Amasra for a sea vacation, you can spare more time to visit the bays and beaches.

Where is Amasra, How to Go?

Amasra is a city in the province of Bartın, established on a peninsula extending towards the sea, on the seaside in the west of the Black Sea region. It is between Zonguldak and Sinop.

The distance between Istanbul and Amasra is around 450 kilometers, so you can reach Amasra in 5-6 hours with your own car. If you want to go by bus, it is possible to reach Amasra from Istanbul with a 7-8 hour journey. Ticket prices are around 110 TL.

Amasra Museum, Direkli Kaya, Göldere Waterfall, Kemere Bridge, Gürcüoluk Cave, Amasra Castle, Delikli Chile, Amasra Church, Ancient Theater are among the places to visit in Amasra. Amasra Castle

Amasra Castle, which was built in the Byzantine period and consists of two parts connected to each other by the Kemere Bridge, gives the opportunity to take very beautiful photos thanks to the peninsula on which it is built. You can see all the sights by crossing the Kemere Bridge and climbing the hill where the Amasra Lighthouse is located. There is also a Weeping Tree on the hill, from the tea garden there you can see the view of Rabbit Island, which is nearby. I do not recommend going out in very windy weather, it blows badly.

The Kemere Bridge, which connects the two sides of the castle, was built during the Byzantine period. You can watch Rabbit Island from the top of this bridge.

Amasra Attractive Bazaar

When you leave the castle, the Çekiciler Bazaar, where you can buy Amasra's famous wooden works, greets you. Apart from woodwork, you can find many local products here, it gets very crowded in the evening hours.

Women's Market

As you head towards Amasra Castle from the Amasra beach, there will be a covered market place on your left, this is the Women's Market. All kinds of jams, noodles, natural products such as linden and thyme are sold in this market.

Amasra Museum

If you are interested in history, do not forget to stop by the Archeology Museum. You can see Roman, Byzantine, Genoese, Seljuk and Ottoman works in the museum. The old Naval School building draws attention with its beautiful location on the Amasya coast. Museum Card is valid at the entrance of the museum, if you do not have a Museum Card, the entrance fee is 7 TL.

You can have a picnic near Göldere Waterfall and Amasra Lighthouse. Amasra Bird Rock Road Monument is one of the places you should see on the way to Amasra.

There are approximately 120 caves between Amasra and Çakraz. You can find traces of ancient times in Gürcuoluk Cave, the most famous of them.

You can drink your tea and enjoy the view in the tea gardens of Küçük Liman. This place is as enjoyable in the evening as it is during the day. It is an ideal spot especially to watch the sunset.

What to Eat and Where to Eat in Amasra?

During the summer months, there are mobile stuffed mussels and mussel fryers in every corner of the town. If you like mussels, you can have a delicious feast on the side of bread.

“What to eat in Amasra, where to eat?” The first place that comes to mind is the fish restaurant Mustafa's Yeri Live Fish. It's hard to find a place without a reservation, but when you call during the holiday and want to make a reservation, this is a place where the voice response system says "we can't answer you right now due to busyness". Many celebrities have come here, whichever blog you read recommends this place. When we couldn't make a reservation over the phone, we said let's try our luck at the door and the place was opened without even waiting for 10 minutes. We ordered raki, meze and fish, I can say that the meals we received were mediocre. The appetizers were nothing special, the appetizers you can find anywhere. The salad is famous here, it was good, I have no words for it. It also has a very beautiful view. But there is already this view in the places in the same row. I mean, don't worry if you can't find a place in Live Fish, you didn't miss much.

One of the things I liked about Amasra was that you can drink beer in the tea garden on the beach.

What to Buy in Amasra?

The region has a small and cute market, Çetikçiler Çarşısı. When Amasra is mentioned, the first thing that comes to mind is wooden souvenirs. Here you can buy a variety of wooden products for yourself and your loved ones. If you want, you can write the name of the person you want on them or have a picture made.

Where to Stay in Amasra?

There are many hotels and pensions for accommodation in Amasra.

We did not stay in a hotel in Amasra, as we preferred to camp in a tent during our Western Black Sea trip. If you want to set up a tent, you can choose the camping areas on the beaches before or after Amasra. However, I would like to point out that if you go during the holiday period like us, it will be very crowded and you may not be able to find a place.

There are several campsites in the Chakras area. We couldn't find a place there, so we stayed at the Akarsu Campground in Akkonak Village. We paid 75 TL for the tent. The campsite has electricity, kitchen, shower, toilet and beach facilities.

In Amasra, which is among the holiday destinations close to Istanbul, you can spend a pleasant weekend alone with green and blue in the lap of nature.

  1. Hello Sevil, thank you very much for your wonderful article. I am a student studying in Bartın, we go to Amasra all the time. Especially in the summer season, the places where you can swim are great, except for the big harbor beach. The place where the boats are located in the city center is very pi, but the open sea sides are wonderful… If you catch it in a nice weather, it is an indispensable place to take pictures or take a walk. It has really changed a lot over the years, but it still preserves its sweet and beautiful geography. Thanks again for your nice article and have a nice trip!
