It doesn't matter if we go to Greece, the Greek Islands or Rhodes, an important part of Greek culture is food, just like we do! Seafood, appetizers and drinks… After our Rhodes tour What to eat, where to eat in Rhodes, restaurants I tried, meals and drinks I wanted to compile it in this article. Please do not read on an empty stomach 🙂
Of course Frape
What do you think we did as soon as we landed in Rhodes? Our first job was to take a coffee break. When you think of coffee in Greece, the first thing that comes to mind is Frape, a kind of cold coffee. I, who have nothing to do with heat, consume a lot of everything cold during the summer; cold coffee, ice cream and ice cold beer are among them. When we went to Rhodes, when the weather was hot, we started from the first row of the list. I learned frape making in my previous travels to Greece and easy frappe recipe I added it to the blog as a blog, if anyone likes it can take a look. Let me tell you, as soon as we visited the Mandraki Port, we took a cold coffee break at the Yacthing Club, right in the heart of the port. When ordering a frape, you must specify whether you want it with or without sugar, with or without milk. Otherwise, it comes dairy-free and sugar-free.
By the way, although Frappe is written with a double "p", the correct one is the one written with a single "p".
taverns
After our city tour, we chose one of the restaurants in Agora for our lunch break. Unfortunately, I did not take note of the name of the restaurant, nor did I take a photo of the food. On the first day, as it was our first meal, we decorated our table with calamari, eggplant, fried zucchini (it has a place among Greek appetizers, it is very good), of course, with greek salad. This time, we cooled ourselves off with a beer from the cold.
In the old city of Rhodes, there are many places where you can sit outside in the evening and have a meal and a drink.
I'm leaving a list of suggestions and things I've tried here;
- OK Restaurant; When I said I was going to Rhodes, everyone gave the name of this place, and it became clear why Vedat Milor came here and made it famous. But when we asked the Greeks, they suggested other places, not that place, so we didn't go for OK.
- Koukos (Kykos, Koykos): We went here as it is very close to our hotel, recommended by many of my friends and by the recommendation of our guide. I didn't like the flavors very much, but Gülşah liked it, the presentations and the place are very nice.
- Thomas Restaurant: We don't have time to try this place 🙂 We are trying to do a lot in a short time 🙂
- Nikos Restaurant: This place was among the places recommended as a fish restaurant, we couldn't go to it either.
- Grand Blue: This is a restaurant in a small bay beyond the Stegna Bay, not in the city of Rhodes. It has a magnificent view and fresh seafood. You can also stop by for a beer, but when you go there, I think you don't want to go easily.
Octopus, squid, shrimp, mushroom, zucchini and eggplant appetizers are mostly found in taverns. Meals such as octopus and calamari are 10 euros, appetizers such as zucchini and eggplant are 5-6 euros, and Greek salad is around 6 euros. Prices do not change much in the touristic center.
Beer 3euro, coffee 2,5euro in general most places.
Turkish Coffeehouse
There is a coffee shop on the left in the pedestrian street going down from the Ağa Mosque in the old city, this place is referred to as the Turkish Coffeehouse. If you want to eat Turkish coffee and baklava, you can stop by.
Greek Drinks
ouzo
The most popular drink in Greece, of course, is Ouzo. It is lighter, easier to drink, but quite similar to our rakı. There are various brands of Ouzo, just as there are various brands of raki in our country. I am not yet an ouzo expert to distinguish between brands 🙂
They also did experimental liquor studies. When we entered a liquor store, we were met by the service of the shopkeeper. Ouzo with Coffee, you taste Ouzo first and then coffee, it's a pretty good drink.
Bira
Greece has two famous beer brands; Mythos and Alpha. There are other brands as well, but these are the most common ones you will see. I am a Mythosist, I have reached the level to choose here 🙂
Wine
Rhodes produces its own wine grapes and makes its own wine. Rhodes wines, which fall under the “DRY” group, can find and drink red if they want white. If you do not specify a brand, the wines are served in carafes as table wine.
They also have resin-scented wines drunk with soda.
Ice cream
Of course, ice cream is indispensable in hot countries. Ice cream shops in the Greek Islands are generally under the influence of the Italian school. The locals in Lindos, whom we asked to offer us homemade ice cream, suggested a place called “Gallipoli”, and we thought it was Gallipoli. However, it was Gelo Blu, the name came from Gelota 🙂 But their ice cream was very good, we recommend it.
Doner – Gyros
Let's not get into the argument that doner was yours and it was ours, because we are two countries that have shared a common geography for centuries, so of course we have a lot of common dishes. Stuffed tzatziki and moussaka are on the menu of almost every restaurant. We say doner, they are Gyros, ours is made of thin lavash, theirs is made of thick pita bread, they also put cacik or yoghurt in it, we don't. Theirs is good, too 🙂 Unlike us, they also make doner from pork, of course.
Again in Lindos, we went to a doner shop to have a quick lunch; Estia was both delicious and clean.
I can't tell you how hungry I was while preparing the article 🙂

I'm thinking of going during the Eid-al-Adha holiday. Do you have any hotel recommendations for families with children?
Since I did not go with a child, I cannot make a recommendation on this subject.
