Güney Africa I wrote very little about South Africa when I got into a busy schedule as soon as I got back from my trip. These days, when there are questions about how much my trip to South Africa cost, I go back to my old accounts. South Africa travel cost I said I would write my post.

I will write the expenses in USD (dollars), because as the dollar rate changes, our travel costs increase, unfortunately 🙁

South Africa Travel Cost

Although I went to South Africa in October, I bought my plane tickets in February. Because cheap airplane ticket I flew with If I said cheap, it was still around 1807 TL. I couldn't remember the dollar equivalent.

If we exclude the plane ticket The total cost of my 16-day trip to South Africa was $2.051 USD.  You can see the detailed breakdowns below:

Activities  $562.00
gift  $156.00
Contact  $73.00
Hotel  $323.00
private spending  $118.00
Transportation  $408.00
Main  $411.00

By activities is meant in Bungee jumping There is also shark diving and museum entrances… So as you can see, the richest part of the job is the biggest item.

290USD of the transportation item is from Bazbus, which I use for intercity transportation.

As a hotel, I stayed in hostels throughout my trip. Their prices usually ranged from 12-15 USD, but I must say that their quality is very high.

Almost half of the food item actually consisted of drinks, don't be fooled 🙂

Normally, I buy very few trinkets from the places I go, but this time I exaggerated 🙁 They were so beautiful, I couldn't resist 🙁 I have to reduce this item on my next trips.

What you see in the communication item is that I got a phone line from there so I was always connected to the internet, good luck 🙂

If you asked if it was worth it, it was worth every penny. I had the best trip of my life…

    • They have their own language, but the rate of knowledge of colonial Dutch is high. It is possible to communicate in English in central places.

    • Take a look at my articles, if you have specific questions I'll try to answer them. What would you recommend, a very general question 🙂

  1. Hello, my wife and I bought tickets to Johanessburg in December, now we were planning, but we were afraid when we read about crime, rape, etc.
    we have 7 nights
Actually, I was thinking of 2 nights in johannesburg, 2 nights in durban and 3 nights in cape town, but when it happens, the streets are not to be visited after 5 pm, etc. things push to a different plan.
After 3 days safari in Kruger, we thought 3 days in Zimbabwe or Zambia or Victoria Falls, your suggestions are me
Is it a place to go? How was the security while you were there, did you have any problems?
It says which cities you have seen, how is the transportation, even taxis cannot be trusted.

  2. Have you been to Johannesburg? They say that you cannot even walk on the streets because of the security problem, you can only move within limited areas with reliable taxis. Do you have any knowledge about this topic?

    • Hello,
Johannesburg was not on my route, you can see my South Africa route from this link. I also read that there is a security issue and that you shouldn't stay outside after dark.

  3. I hope you answer me. I'm thinking of going to cape town. I will stay for a week, but I don't think I will go on a tour. I will be alone. All I will do is travel and eat.

      • Well, with the budget you wrote, what I think is very different. I will only do 3 things: travel, eat, stay and I don't think to do them like you, for example, the cheapest meals just to not die of hunger, the cheapest hotel to not sleep outside, and I will do things like bus or walking instead of a taxi for sightseeing Yours and mine are definitely different, while you spend money on 7 things, I spend on 3 things and those 3 things I spend are quite different from yours, so I ask you how much it will cost, I wish you would give a healthy answer.

        • I did not travel as you expected, so it is not possible for me to give the answer you want to your question. This is a blog and I am sharing my personal experiences. If you find people like you and ask them, you can find more "healthy" answers.

  4. Greetings,
I'm thinking of a 1 week cape town trip, is it enough or would you say water city according to you while you're gone? In addition, is it possible to go alone..if we look at it in terms of security?

    • Hello Yagiz,

One week is enough for CapeTown and nearby places only. You can go on a daily tour to the Cape of Good Hope, a mini safari and the Wine Trail.
But South Africa is a wonderful country with every city worth seeing. I made a long route for 2 weeks, but believe me, it was not enough 🙂
No security issues in and around CapeTwown. Just be careful when you go out at night.

  5. I also say good luck to the money spent on activities. Transportation costs were also high.

If you bought the line from there, I would expect less cost, Sevil. How many GB of internet was included for $73?

    • Imagine that I was on the move from one city to another every day for 2 weeks. It will be cheaper if you spread it over time.

Internet is not cheap there. First I paid the line + internet money (I can't remember how many GB it is now:(), the last day was not enough, I bought another 10USD.
