Moscow's Istiklal Avenue Arbat Avenue

The place I stay is famous arbat It was very close to the street, so as soon as I settled in the hotel, my trip to Moscow started with a quick Arbat trip. Arbat is a rather small version of our Istiklal street. It is a fun place with many restaurants, souvenir shops, bars, street performers. There are many options from concept motorcycle bars to artisan restaurants.

Places to Eat on Arbat Street

My favorite among restaurants in Moscow MyMy restaurant chain. He picked me up right away with his cow-patterned concepts. From local Russian dishes to soups, from international cuisine to alcohol, breakfast service, there is everything you can look for. The prices of this restaurant, which is located not only in Arbat but also in many parts of Moscow, are very economical, it is possible to have a comprehensive meal around 10-12usd.

  • Again on the Arbat, as you go down the street from the top of the street, there is a large one on the right. Georgian restaurant If you like Georgian food like me, this is another alternative that I would recommend. The photo is below, I hope you can read the name 🙂
  • On the right side of the street where this Georgian restaurant is located, there is a place similar to Bereket in Istiklal where Russians go. You should also try this place to see Muscovites drinking beer in huge glasses and to try local dishes at economical prices. Plotnikov Bar it's name.
  • Also, if there are lovers, there is also a place on this street. Hard Rock Cafe there.
  • Many chain stores such as Starbucks and Mc Donalds have also occupied Moscow. The old capital of communism has surrendered to capitalism.

Red Square

When I went to Moscow, I was in a dilemma; Should I visit all the stops of the Moscow metro or go to Red Square first? Red Square weighed heavily. The must-have of all Moscow photos is the onion dome. st. Basil's Cathedral (St. Basil), Red Square, the symbol of Communism, surrounded by the Revolution Square and the huge Kremlin Palace!

Red Square was so exciting for me that I first drew a wide circle around it. I lingered in the Revolution Square, while the entrance door to the square was winking at me, I lingered as I lingered. I wandered around the souvenir shops in Revolution Square. I killed time on the stone, which is considered the center of the world in every city.

And finally ta-taaaaa, Red Square! But what is that, there is work in the square. A lot of piers are waiting for me 🙁 Well, piers still can't spoil the magnificence of the square, of course it would be better if they weren't. I managed it 🙂

There were other people waiting for me, too, Lenin and Stalin 🙂 Like the guards of this square, they immediately kept the entrance.

st. Basil's Cathedral is very cute from the outside but there is not much inside, so you can choose not to pay and go inside. Of course Lenin's tomb and leaning against the wall of the Kremlin in the square. You shouldn't miss it. It is useful to pay attention to the open days and hours before you go.

If you are coming to the square from the direction of Revolution Square, you will first see a pink church and then a historical building. shopping mall GUM. Even if you don't shop, you can go and take nice pictures.

Kremlin Palace and Its Surroundings

After our tour in the square is over, now it's time for the Kremlin Palace, the symbol of Russia. With its red brick walls and towers, this is one of the oldest structures in Moscow. There is a fee to enter the palace, and there may be a queue at the door during busy periods. Many cathedrals and churches are located in the palace garden, so there is a Cathedral Square and the square is surrounded by the Cathedral of the Archangel, the Cathedral of the Annunciation, Uspenski Cathedrals, where the Coronation Ceremonies of the Tsars and Emperors are held. You can enter each one individually and see the unique wall decorations, or you can go up to the tower and watch the square from above. In the Square, outside the cathedral, you can see the Palace of the Facets and the famous broken Ivan the Great Bell. Since the bell was broken in the fire, it remained in the garden and was never moved to the bell tower. And of course the Kremlin Palace itself is worth seeing, the magnificent furniture, porcelain, crystals are stunning.

When you leave the palace, you can continue towards the Bolshoi Theatre. It would be great to see a show at the Bolshoi, one of the most famous theaters in the world, but finding a place is very difficult. However, tours are organized for those who want to see the inside of the theater, you can join one of them.

The Church of Christ the Savior is also within walking distance of the Kremlin Palace. The church, which was destroyed during the period of socialism, was started to be rebuilt in 1994. The church, which is decorated with the works of famous Russian architects and painters, was reopened in 2000.

The Seven Sisters of Moscow

In Moscow, the buildings in the city center are usually very majestic, high ceilings, aesthetically pleasing from the outside, and huge buildings with a courtyard in the middle. However, among these huge buildings, there are 7 of them, known as "Seven Sisters of Moscow", that is, the Seven Sisters of Moscow. At the same time, they are the tallest buildings in Moscow with their heights varying between 26-32 floors.

These seven buildings draw attention by being in the same architectural style in different parts of the city; Moscow University, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “Leningrad” and “Ukraine” hotels, state administration buildings on Red Gate Square, and apartments on Kotelnichessky Quay and Sadov Kudrinski Square. Built on the Lenin Mountains, 238 m. Moscow State University stands out as the most well-known of these buildings.

Grave of Our World Famous Poet Nazım Hikmet Ran

The grave of our world famous poet Nazım Hikmet Ran is located in Moscow. You can reach the cemetery in the Novodevichy Cemetery by using the red metro line 1 passing through the Sportivnaya stop. To find the grave easily, you can ask the cemetery officer about Boris Yeltsin's grave, Nazim's grave is right next to Boris Yeltsin's grave. You can easily distinguish it thanks to the statue of a man walking against the wind at the head of the tomb. Although he willed to be buried in a village cemetery in Anatolia, perhaps you would like to take a handful of soil from Anatolia to his grave in Moscow…

Far From City Center

I would definitely like to mention some monuments, museums and parks that are far from the heart of the city but worth seeing. The Cosmonautics Memorial Museum is one of them. The achievements of the Russians in space sciences are known, the museum where they exhibit their knowledge on this subject is worth seeing with its monuments and sculptures outside and interesting halls for both children and adults. Although this place is far from the city center, it can be easily reached by the 6th metro line.

While you're here, you can also see the “Worker man and peasant woman” sculpture, which represents the unity of the peasant and working class. Worker man and peasant woman symbolize socialism with the sickle and hammer they hold up, which is the symbol of the Soviet State. The statue is located at the entrance of the Russian Exhibition Center.

Moscow Metro

And we came to Moscow's most important place, namely the metro! The most beautiful metro stops in the world are located in Moscow, each metro stop decorated by artists, painters and sculptors is a separate work of art. For this reason, you can enjoy the beauty of the subway by getting off at all stops on line 6, which is the ring line in the old city center, and exiting different exits. Even special tours are organized for the metro lines in Moscow, you can get information about both the history of the metro lines and the artifacts by participating in these tours. It is also said that there are metro lines that are currently inactive, used as a wartime shelter or connecting government buildings.

If we list the most beautiful and must-see metro stops in Moscow;

  1. Komsomolskaya
  2. Arbatskaya
  3. Belorusskaya

  5. mayakovskaya

Where to Stay in Moscow

Where to stay in Moscow is expensive! Let's start by accepting that first. Be prepared to pay 40-50usd per person per night to places like hostels and hostels.

The budget you will spend on accommodation in Moscow will be your highest expenditure item. I remember I paid 2usd per night for 60 people in a hostel with a shared bathroom. The place I was staying had no sign outside. We waited quite a while at the door, waiting for them to ring the bell and let us in. To give an idea, where I stayed: Havana Mini-hotel

Of course, there are many hotel and hostel options around the Arbat or Kremlin, but as I said, do not forget that it is expensive.

Moscow is definitely worth taking the time to visit. Apart from the ones I mentioned above, there are many museums, parks and places worth seeing in Moscow. I hope the visas will be lifted as soon as possible and I will have the opportunity to go again.

Stay on track.

  1. Hello, thank you for your information. In the light of this information, I made my reservation from Gindza Hostel Patriarshie Ponds and we are going with Aeroflot on May 1st. I hope it will be easy to reach the hostel from SVO. I would be very grateful if you have any other advices you can give me. 🙂

  2. Hello, you wrote very well, thank you. We, as 8 people, went to St. Petersburg in October and then to Moscow. We stayed 3 nights in Moscow, 2 in St.Petersburg. It was like a dream. We have visited many countries of the world, but we have not seen the comfort, sincerity and affordability of this trip anywhere. Our guide, Mr. Kuzey (I can't remember his last name), provided an exceptional service with our hotels, our high-speed train transfer to Moscow, all our airport-hotel, train station transfers and a perfect itinerary. If you need it, I write your phone +90 530 4688113 and +7 911 1977979 If you search for my petersburg guide on google, you can find it.

    • Hello Alpine,
I looked at hostels too, but I couldn't find any hostels in those numbers. Can you share with us where you stayed, so that we can benefit from it in the next trip 🙂

      • of course 🙂
Gindza Hostel Sretenka and Gindza Hostel Patriarshie Ponds were the prettiest. I usually make a reservation from Booking. I stayed in different hostels at different times between 270-300 Rubles.

Russia; It is a truly wonderful country with its green nature that will surprise you when you go, quite different from what is taught in geography classes. It is a different world with its churches, streets, squares, cuisine, furs, subway resembling an art gallery, palaces, sculptures, cities and the Volga. We went with a couple of friends with ZNF Tourism, it's a great agency, I can recommend it.
