Where to Stay in Ohrid

If you enter Ohrid in a way that shows you are a foreigner. Unfortunately, you may experience some harassment. A few cyclists immediately start following you. “Do you need a place to stay?” saying…

we've heard of before Fuat Hayrettin's PensionWe had to skip a few bikers trying to find it. While we were trying to find the address on the side of the road, someone approached us and said, “Do you need help in Turkish?” We were quite surprised when we asked. We knew that there was a Turkish population here, but we did not anticipate that they would come and speak Turkish with us.

When we said we are looking for Fuat Hayrettin, his saying “mine” once again increased our surprise.

Fuat Bey is one of the Turks who stayed in Macedonia. He runs a hostel with his family. It is actually a sparkling apart hotel in the city center. I would definitely recommend it if you happen to be in Ohrid. You can reach him at the following address:

Fuat Hayreddin 'Key Marsal Tito' No 36b (neighborhood) 6000 Ohrid-Macedonia

To describe briefly; When you come down to Ohrid beach, turn left from the main road, you will see a big church a little ahead. The street right behind the church is Fuat Bey's hostel. If you ask anyone, they will show you.

There are alternatives about accommodation in the comments below this article, you can check it out.

Where is Ohrid, How to Go?

Ohrid is one of the most famous cities of Macedonia. The city, which was established on the shores of Lake Ohrid, is also very close to the Albanian border, think of it as the other side of the lake, Albania.

We went to Ohrid with our own vehicle from Istanbul on a trip to the Balkans. For those who want to go by car, a road of approximately 900 km is waiting for you through Thessaloniki.

If you do not have the time and opportunity to go by your own vehicle, you can fly to Skopje to go to Ohrid and go to Ohrid by bus from there. Or Onur Air has started direct flights to Ohrid, and you can fly directly from Istanbul to Ohrid.

Turks in Ohrid

The Turkish population remained around 6% in Ohrid, but many people who heard that we came from Turkey or Istanbul sent greetings to their relatives and wanted to listen to Istanbul and Turkey from us. It was so obvious that they felt abandoned there 🙁

There were even those who wanted our Istanbul printed t-shirts. It was as if we had gone to visit our relatives there. I have to say that there were quite emotional moments.

What to Eat in Ohrid?

Ohrid has many Italian restaurants instead of its unique dishes. The good thing is that wine and food are quite cheap compared to Italy. In addition, although it is not allowed, you can taste the fish from the lake and eat pastries with a Turkish taste.

You can find Turkish coffee in many cafes.

The paradise city of Ohrid Macedonia should definitely be included in your travel plans.

Stay on track!

  1. Hi, first of all, thank you very much for writing Uncle Fuat's number here, he's like a man. One of us was in Ohrid for a day. I stayed for 3 days. He took us to Luk, Albania. We went around the lake for a small fee to eat fish. We had a wonderful and full holiday thanks to the monastery. He arranged a taxi and took us to the hostel. We went for 2 people round trip 1000 dinars, in short, I'm glad you wrote here admin, thank you

  2. Right now I'm in Ohrid, it's definitely a must see place in the square. During the sycamore tree in the square, you can eat the soup salad at the meatballs, Grance Taffé (Dried Beans) You can taste the pear soda and drink tea in front of the meatball restaurant. Drop Ohridde Sveti Nauma I've fallen for it :))

  3. Hello, first of all thanks for your information.
We have a 4-day trip plan, our plane will land in Skopje. When we bought our ticket, we said that we would go to albania and montenegro. However, we saw that there are many places to visit in Macedonia.
At least ohrid deserves more than 1 day. Are you wrong? Your opinion on the subject is very valuable to us.

    Thank you,

    Yours

  4. We just came back from Ohrid. We went for the first time as a family, it was a nice holiday and cultural trip. Our travel notes for those who are interested…
We set off by car. Green insurance is required for the vehicle, and if you are going to go from Greece, this country requires an International driver's license. 2 passport photos from Turing at the ipsala or Kapıkule border gate. If you are going to take it out for the first time, they give it immediately for 415 TL. I didn't)) Navigation must be a must, it is an advantage to book your accommodation in advance.
I would also like to thank the owner of this site. We learned about Fuad Hayreddin Bey's Apart/Pension from the internet that we will stay in Ohrid and we wrote to him by e-mail and booked our place. Mr. Fuad informs you about the details by e-mail. In fact, we arrived in Ohrid 1 day ago from Thessaloniki. Even though he was in Albania, he had us meet and arranged a place for us until the next day. Fuad Bey Apart is clean, close to the lake and the market, with a small but cute garden and an ice-cold spring in the garden. We never paid any money for the water. We filled it out from the source. They give a lot of information about guidance and travel. I would like to thank Fuad Bey and his family for their interest. (Also, your coffee and Turkish delight were different and wonderful.)
You don't have any problems with food in Ohrid. There are Muslim restaurants, patisseries, mosques open for worship. Prices are quite affordable. There is an Albanian pastry shop near the bazaar, they have great börek at affordable prices. There is no problem in language. There are many who speak Turkish.
The lake is clean and its surroundings are green. The spring entrance of Lake Sv Naumdaki and the exit of Lake Sturugadaki must be seen. The view of Ohrid from the castle is wonderful.
In short, everyone's understanding of holiday is different, but we loved Ohrid very much. I think that those who love nature, history and natural beauties without unnecessary luxury will be satisfied.
We also traveled around the lake of Ohrid (including the part in Albania).
Greetings to all.. have a nice trip..

  8. The city of Ohrid is one of the most beautiful Balkan cities to visit, it is the pearl of the Balkans with its history, the lake of Ohrid, its welcoming people and its cafes. Hookah Cafe, located in the center of Ohrid, which attracts my attention the most, is exactly the place we need in Macedonia with a full Turkish cafe, Turkish tea, Turkish coffee, hookah, even Turkish music and very sweet staff. Its owners are already from Turkey, so they didn't let us search for Turkey in the Balkans in a way. For those who want to go, the address of the Hookah Cafe is in the center of Ohrid, on the street next to Hotel RIVIERA, the exact address is Kuzman Yosifovski Sok. No.1

  9. Hello Ms. Sevil, I will visit Macedonia with my wife between January 25th and January 30th.
Is there anything you can suggest to us? Places to see, things to do, seasonal activities, etc. We want to go to Mavrovo for one day skiing. Are there day tours and is it closer to Skopje or Ohrid? Because we will go to both cities. I hope you can help. Thanks in advance.

  10. Hello,
I intend to go to Ohrid from Albania-Durres with my daughter and wife on the 4th of September. I wonder if it will be a problem for me to find a bus.?Do you know the websites of the bus companies??

      • Ms. Sevil, I have just started reading your articles. I read about Fuat Bey Pension in other articles. While I was thinking about how to find the address, your article helped a lot, thinking that you have information, I have a question with my wife and our little girl at the beginning of October, we are planning a trip to Greece Macedonia albania Montenegro Sarajevo Kosovo, I researched most of the things I just mentioned in that season. I would be very grateful if you could help countries based on your experience, how is it seasonally, have a nice day

      • Hello, thanks to you, we met Uncle Fuat and talked about you. He was very pleased. We also loved Ohrid, we are thinking of going again soon.
I had a question about the bus, Durmo Tour.

  11. Me and my wife decided to go to Skopje and Ohrid for 2015. We made reservations from the hotels, but I read your comments and I wondered if I should cancel the hotel reservation in ohrid. I actually chose the hotel because it has a beach and a pool. What you wrote now confused me. It will be our first time abroad and we don't want it to be the first and the last, frankly. I would be very grateful if anyone has any advice on this. Thanks for your comments

    • Hello Serhat,

Of course, the conditions of the hostel and the hotel are quite different.
It would be better to decide according to what kind of holiday you want.
