Seyyid Battal Gazi Social Complex and Tomb, Center

When Seyitgazi is mentioned, the first person that comes to everyone's mind is undoubtedly Seyit Battal Gazi, from whom the district is named, and the first place that comes to mind is the impressive complex structure containing the Battal Gazi Tomb.

The name of the hill where Seyyid Battal Gazi Complex is located is Üçler Hill, there is a very beautiful view of Seyitgazi from the hill. This view has attracted attention throughout history, so much so that it is assumed that there was a pagan temple here during the Phrygian period. The temple, which was converted into a church/monastery during the Roman period, was transformed into a social complex during the Seljuk period.

Known as a folk hero Seyyid Battal GaziHe took the name Seyyid from his descent from Ali, the name Battal from his bravery, and the title Gazi from his heroism in wars. Battal Ghazi; He participated in the Afyon war between the Arab armies and the Eastern Roman Empire in 740, died in the battle in front of the Messiah Castle, and according to his will, SeyitgaziIt is accepted that he was buried in Üçler Hill in .

The construction of the tomb started during the Seljuk period when Ümmühan Hatun, the mother of Alaaddin Keykubad I, came to Seyitgazi after seeing her in her dream. The tomb of the shepherd named Kutlu, who helped find the grave. Çoban Baba (Kutluca) Tomb It is located within the social complex named after.

In the center of the complex, there is the tomb of Battal Gazi and the mosque. Battal Gazi's sarcophagus is exactly 8,5 meters long. It is estimated that such a sarcophagus was built to emphasize the magnificence of Battal Gazi. The sarcophagus of Elenora, the king's daughter and the legendary love of Battal Gazi, is located right next to it. Çoban Baba, Ümmühan Hatun and Ayni Ana are the other tombs in the complex. Although the social complex started to be built during the Seljuk period, it took its current appearance during the Ottoman period, and buildings such as a madrasa, soup kitchen, bakery, Bektashi lodge and cold storage were added here between 1511 and 1517. The complex can be visited free of charge, and the sound of the flute you hear when you enter the garden immediately invites you inside.

Although there are many places to see in the social complex, the view from below/outside from Seyitgazi is even more magnificent. It awaits Seyitgazi like a structure out of a fairy tale, with its many chimneys.

The mausoleum, which was opened in 2001, was built in the shadow of a plane tree, following the will of the famous poet, "Bury me in a village cemetery in Anatolia." The people of Doğançayır decided to move Nazım Hikmet Ran's grave to their town. They applied to the Ministry of Culture twice and asked for the poet's grave to be moved to their town, but they could not get a positive result. For those who do not know Nazım's poem "Vasiyet" and want to read it again, I am sharing it below;

TESTAMENT
Comrades, if I don't have the chance to see that day,
If I die, that is, before salvation,
take away
Bury me in a village cemetery in Anatolia,

May the farmhand Osman, who was shot by Hasan Bey, rest next to me.
and nestled in the ground beneath the rye
Martyr Ayşe, who died before she turned forty, is on the other side of me.

Let the tractors and folk songs pass through the cemetery
Fresh people in the morning light, the smell of burning gasoline,
Fields are cultivated, water in canals,
neither drought nor fear of gendarmerie.
Of course we will not hear these songs,
lies long under the ground
The dead rot like black branches,
deaf, blind, mute under the ground.
But I sang these songs,
                  before they get fucked
I heard the smell of burning gasoline
without even drawing pictures of the tractors.

As for the neighbors,
martyr Ayşe and farmhand Osman,
They suffered great longing while they were alive
maybe without even realizing it.

Comrades, if I die, that is, before that day,
It looks like that too.
Bury me in a village cemetery in Anatolia
And if it comes to your warning
If there is a plane tree above me
You know, he doesn't want stones or stones either.
