About Geneva

What I remember most about Geneva is that one half of the city is in Switzerland, the other half is in France, and the French part is half cheaper than Switzerland.

One of the remarkable features of Geneva is that many international organizations have their headquarters here. The United Nations and the World Health Organization are among them. World-famous European Center for Nuclear Research CERN It is also located very close to Geneva, on the French border. Being intertwined with France and hosting international organizations has made Geneva the most cosmopolitan city of Switzerland. Foreigners make up half of the population.

As in most of the cities in Switzerland close to France, French is predominantly spoken here.

According to a study in Geneva (Quality Living Survey 2010 by the research company Mercer) considering living standards Ranked 3rd among the best quality and most livable cities in the world ranks.

150 kilometers from the city of Lyon, France. It is located 60 km from the city of Lausanne, Switzerland.

What to Eat in Geneva?

Geneva cuisine consists of a mixture of French and Swiss cuisine, and has been under the influence of both. Delicatessen products and wines accompanying the fish caught from the lake are the most prominent dishes.

The vineyards around the lake also ensured the production of quality wine in Geneva. When it comes to wine, cheese made from the milk of famous Swiss cows is indispensable.

Tarts and chocolate, on the other hand, stand out the most for dessert.

What to do in Geneva

Geneva is not very rich in activity. The nightlife is as calm as the day. During the day, the best activity to do in the city is to take a walk by the lake or take boat tours on the lake.

The best activity season is skiing in the Alps, which lasts for a long time and is within reach by cable car.

Like Geneva's liberation day on 11 December each year, they celebrate their liberation from the Siege of Wall with parades and masquerade balls.

Shopping in Geneva

Like all of Switzerland, Geneva is a very expensive city. For your daily shopping, you can reach the French side of the city by tram. You can shop or dine in daily for almost a third of the price.

The flea market at the Plain Palais can be an alternative to cheap shopping.

If you ask what to buy in Geneva, if you can afford it, you can buy a Swiss army knife or a Swiss watch.

  1. Hello there ,
You recommended a visa from France instead of Switzerland. I am of the same opinion.

We have a lot of Schengen in our passport, but it's always 6 months old. Since we do not want to give this money and all the paperwork to a 10-15 day Swiss visa, we will try to get 1 year from France this time.
If we get a visa from France and enter Switzerland first (from Geneva airport), will we have any problems?
Also, you can get on the trains going to Paris again with a swiss pass, right?
    Thanks in advance,

  2. Hello there,

a hostel you know (suitable for 2 girls), a room for rent, etc. If there is, can you share it with us? If not, what would you recommend as a district?
thank you so much in advance

  3. First of all, thank you for your interest.

I have never received a Schengen visa before. I would like to make a trip to Europe for a maximum of 12 days. The countries I will go to are Switzerland-Netherlands-France-Germany respectively.

Is it possible for you to provide information about the "Schengen visa" fee? Does the number of countries we will visit in Europe affect the price of this visa? It would be great for me if you could give information about this visa. Thank you.
