Ethiopia Although I had decided on my trip at the last minute, I was very happy when I found a 350usd round-trip flight ticket from EgyptAir. If the plane ticket is cheap, know that there is a problem 🙂 My Istanbul – Addis Ababa flight was also via Cairo, and it was around 03:30 in the morning. Bole Addis Ababa International AirportI had landed. As with most airports where you arrive at midnight, the only mode of transportation from Bole Addis Ababa Airport to the city center is by taxi. The other alternative is that if you have agreed with a tour, you can ask them to pick you up from the airport.

How is Bole Addis Ababa International Airport?

Here are my short notes about Bole Addis Ababa Airport, where I had the opportunity to spend a lot of time in both the domestic and international flights during my trip to Ethiopia:

  • The airport is almost inside the city, at a distance of 5 km from the city center.
  • If you are leaving the airport, that is, you are in the arrivals section, I can say that there is no suitable place to rest, sit or sleep. But if you are an outgoing passenger, you can sleep comfortably in the foot-extension seats on both domestic and international routes. The reason why I am giving sleep information is that if you land at the airport prematurely like me, it is very important whether there is a suitable environment for sleeping.
  • All freeshop stores were closed during the night flight in international flights, if you want to buy something from the freeshop, it is not possible at night. Bring your necessities such as food and drink with you accordingly.
  • There are too many calls. The whole bag is scrutinized by constantly being taken out to the shoes. If I'm not mistaken I went through 3 checkpoints. If you are traveling with hand luggage, all your bags are scrutinized at each checkpoint. It is best to put your bag in the trunk, because everything in your bag is not very pleasant to be touched 🙂
  • Taxis are waiting at the exit of the airport, you can go anywhere you want for a local price of 100Birr or for a tourist price of 15-20 usd.
  • If Addis is your only transit point, you can stay in one of the hotels close to the airport, the most well-known is the Caravan Hotel.

ETT Ethiopia Tours & Travel, from whom I bought all my tours in Ethiopia, organized all my airport transfers, so I didn't have to look for a taxi or another solution for transportation.

"Does he who reads a lot or travels a lot?" I started by saying, I am still looking for an answer. I travel after my dreams and share my experiences on my blog, newspapers and magazines. I love to travel, read, write and dream.
