The taste of my trip to the Balkans in the fall of 2010 remained in my mouth. Balkans one of the stops of my trip Hırvatistan was. Most heard city Dubrovnik Croatia is the country where I went here to find other beauties. Croatia places to visit I have compiled my suggestions in this article.

Croatia Tips

  • It's as close as you can get by road, and there are also THY and Pegasus flights.
  • Mains It is very close to our taste, Bosnian pastry, meatballs… Guaranteed not to go hungry 🙂 Also, there are plenty of pizzeria with the influence of Italian culture.
  • Unlike other Balkan countries, prices are as in Europe, don't dream of a cheap vacation 🙂 For a cheap Balkan trip, other Balkan countries should be preferred.
  • You will find a much more beautiful and developed country than you expected (at least it was for me), don't be surprised!
  • Internet is not common. Free Wifi dreams can be saved for a few years 🙂

Cities I Visited in Croatia

Cities I Visited in Croatia
Cities I Visited in Croatia

Our route started from the Croatian coastline and extended to the capital. Respectively;

  • Dubrovnik
  • Split
  • Primosten
  • Zadar
  • Plitvicka Jezera National Park
  • destination

Adriatic when we go to the beach Dalmatia The beauty of its shores dazzled us. Budva on the Montenegrin coast and Kotor in the fjord were natural wonders. This beauty continued on the Croatian coast. It is a great pleasure to travel along the seaside, twisting like lace. Of course, we also had the advantage of going by motorcycle. It was wonderful to stop and take pictures often, and to travel by taking in the fresh sea air.

Dubrovnik

Known as the pearl of the Adriatic Dubrovnik Our first city in Croatia.

If you are coming to the city from the direction of Montenegro, it is a wonderful “The Old City” So there is the view of the old city, but if you do not pay attention to the time of day, you will be in the wrong light like us 🙂 All the old cities in the Balkans are called Stari Grad.

Dubrovnik, which has an important commercial location, was built by Venetian architects at the time. Maybe that's why it has narrow streets and beautiful architecture. However, during the war in the Balkans, it was heavily bombarded between 1991 and 1995, and a large part of the city was damaged. The Unesco-protected city has been completely restored and now resembles a medieval movie set.

There are many beaches around Dubrovnik, it also provides opportunities for summer holidays. However, my time is limited and because I prefer to see its history, I did not have the opportunity to swim there.

We did not arrange the hotels in advance on the Balkan trip. Because the internet is not very common in the Balkans and the hotels on the internet are mostly expensive hotels, in my opinion. We said we will arrange it when we go, but it caused us to waste a lot of time. I realized again that it is not a good idea to go on short trips without arranging a hotel.

Hostel practice is very common in Dubrovnik. Everyone has turned their house into a hostel. However, they do not take kindly to tourists who will stay for 1-2 nights. It is an economical solution if you stay for a long time, otherwise you stay in a hostel for the price of a hotel 🙂 In order not to waste time looking for more places, we paid 50 euros to the hostel.

You can easily find the places to see in Dubrovnik Stari Grad in almost every travel article or book. The area is already very small, so you can visit all the important points in one day. Let me summarize for you; The city walls and, of course, its towers, Francis Monastery dating from the 14th century and home to the world's oldest pharmacy, Rector's Palace, Onofrio's Fountain, Orlando Statue, customs house, city gates… My suggestion is to enter and exit all the streets. As you leave the main line and wander through the congested streets, you can suddenly encounter a wonderful view of the Adriatic. There is a great pastry shop and takeaway coffee places on the street right parallel to Stradun Street. So you can fill your stomach in an economical way.

You can take daily island tours from Dubrovnik and go to the famous Korcula island. We used our island right on another island 🙂

 Split

Split
 Split

important port city of Croatia SplitIt is also famous for its blue flag beaches. I had intended to swim in Split due to the fame of its beaches, but the rainy weather on the day I stayed in Split gave me a nice holiday surprise.

This city, which is in the position of a trade center, has become a full industrial city with the effect of the port. Small Stari Grad is magnificent, overlooking the harbour, and quite lively at night. There is a similar one to Izmir's Kordon in Split. It is also colorful with cafes and souvenir shops.

Prices increase as you go up. You feel completely in Europe here. Accommodation costs were also very high, so we preferred hostel accommodation. The hostel we stayed in Omladinski Hostel It was a huge cold hostel that looked like a student dormitory 🙁

If you have time, add it to your route, otherwise it will be a waste not to add it 🙂

Primosten

Primosten
Primosten

primosthene, One of the stunningly beautiful small castle towns on the lace coast of Croatia. A tiny city within the walls built on the shore of the sea, where we stopped to take a coffee break on the way. Its narrow streets are filled with cafes and souvenir shops. Its church on the top sees the sea from above.

There are many of these beautiful little cities on the Croatian coast. I'd say see someone.

Zadar

Zadar
Zadar

We continue on our way to visit Zadar. But we do ourselves a favor and instead of downtown Zadar Uglijan Islandin Apartments Vesna We live in a house called The island, which is very calm as of the season we visited, is incredibly peaceful and beautiful. We pray that the weather will be nice, but it's raining again and we can't swim again 🙁

To visit Zadar, we take a short ferry ride to Zadar, which is famous for its sunset. Again, we reserve the afternoon for Zadar, with its beautiful Stari Grad, its large church, and its narrow and cobbled streets. Like other old cities, Zadar is as neat as a ruler.

When Alfred Hitchcock visited Zadar in 1964, he said that "the most beautiful sunset in the world can be seen from the Zadar coast". Thanks to this, Zadar's sunset became famous. Artists and tourists who want to photograph the sunset fill the Adriatic coast at sunset. The sunset is so spectacular because the clouds, which are not missing from the sky due to the gust winds, help the sun to break.

Plitvizi National Park

Plitvizi National Park
Plitvizi National Park

Our next destination after Zadar is Zagreb, but we want to stop by there first, as we hear a lot about the Plitvizi National Park on the way. However, on the way, we lose a few hours due to the wrath of the gusts, and on top of that, we get caught in the rain.

When we reach Plitvisan, we forget all about it. This natural park, consisting of ponds formed on the river, is organized in a wonderful way. Very, very well maintained. If you love nature and you want to spend a few hours walking, I definitely recommend you to see it. You also have the opportunity to make your trip longer or shorter with options such as shuttle and ferry in the park.

Plitvizce, which is a very beautiful nature park, allows us to relieve all our tiredness.

destination

We were very tired when we reached Zagreb. While we were intending to rest for a while, the owner of the hotel we stayed in convinced us to visit Zagreb. The hotel for a real Zagreb lover Apartments Kahlina The owner also marked the places we should see on the map one by one. This was the only document we had about Zagreb, because we managed to lose the photos we took in Zagreb while they were uploading them to the computer.

The capital, Zagreb, is of course larger compared to other cities. It is more magnificent with its wide streets, large parks and buildings. As in other cities, the cathedral is the center of the city. The national theater is also among the places to see.

You can spare a week for a tour of Croatia, and you can visit its islands and cities in detail.

Croatia has become one of the countries that I regret not going to before… You must see this beauty so close!

Stay on the Road!

"Does he who reads a lot or travels a lot?" I started by saying, I am still looking for an answer. I travel after my dreams and share my experiences on my blog, newspapers and magazines. I love to travel, read, write and dream.

  1. Hello. This post was really motivating, especially since I was searching for thoughts on this subject last
    Sunday.

  2. First of all, thanks for this useful article. We are planning a 10-day Balkans Tour by motorbike this summer. Since we can't devote all of them to Croatia, what do you think we should choose for accommodation if we want to spend 2 or 3 days there? I was especially curious about Dubrovnik and Zagreb, but it seems so far away, where else would it make more sense to stay in the meantime? May I also know where you are staying in Zagreb? Thank you

    • Greetings,
You should definitely see Dubrovnik, we chose Split as an intermediate stop, but it is a huge port city. Zadar might be a nicer stop.
We have arranged a house in Zagreb via Booking.com, you can find it at this link: Kahlina Apartments

  3. A very useful article, thank you. We want to organize a trip to Croatia this summer with my wife. I heard that Dubrovnik is very expensive, so what would it be like to fly directly to Split and stay there for a few days and wander around. Besides, you can rent a car around Split and visit the coastal towns and the park. Then, how would you approach Dubrovnik by bus and maybe stay one night and then return to Turkey. I look forward to your other suggestions, thank you.

    • Split is not cheap either, I think you can choose Dubrovnik or one of the Islands (like the island of Hvar).
