If you have been to Kas once, you will always go. Kaş is one of the rare coastal towns that have remained untouched with the advantage of being at a difficult point in the Mediterranean. If you have not been to Kaş before, you will find many reasons to go, and if you have been, you will find new items to complete your deficiencies in this article. One of the most difficult places to reach and one of the most inevitable places to see in Kaş is Simena, namely Kaleköy.

Saklikent National Park

Saklıkent Canyon is located 65 kilometers from Kaş. Actually, we can't call it Kaş, but I wanted to add it because it is among the places that people who come to Kaş include in their routes.

Saklikent National Park
Saklikent National Park

There is a long walking route in the canyon. Buzzzz, it's possible to do activities such as walking, swimming, rafting in really buzz-like cold waters, or to eat pancakes at the cafes in the area closest to the entrance and return.

Daily tours are organized under the name of Saklıkent Safari from Kaş, stopping by the ancient cities on the way, and activities in the Saklıkent Canyon.

Saklıkent National Park entrance is privately owned. Full 2021 TL for 10, 5 TL for students.

Bezirgan Plateau and Historical Warehouses

Bezirgan Plateau and Historical Warehouses
Bezirgan Plateau and Historical Warehouses

Now I will talk about a place that those who walk the Lycian Way know well, but have not heard of those who come to Kaş for a sea vacation: Bezirgan Plateau. Bezirgan Plateau is 38 km from Kas and 14 km from Kalkan. You ascend to the plateau with a very steep ascent and the view of the road is magnificent. The entire road is asphalt, so you can easily exit.

The View of the Road to Bezirgan Plateau
The View of the Road to Bezirgan Plateau

Apart from the magnificent view of the Bezirgan Plateau, there are also 500-year-old historical warehouses, which is worth climbing that hill. While the number of warehouses built with typical Lycian architecture was around 300, it decreased to 120 due to neglect and some warehouses being moved to touristic places. These are historical granaries, barns made of nail-free wood, built a little higher than the plateau so that they are not affected by floods.

Deliklikemer – Historical Aqueduct

Deliklikemer - Historical Aqueduct
Deliklikemer – Historical Aqueduct

Another historical value on the Lycian Way is the aqueduct, known as the Historical Aqueduct or Deliklikemer, which was built for the purpose of carrying water to the city of Patara. It is a great luck that a part of the arch, which is thought to have been 22 km long at the time it was used, has survived to this day.

To reach Deliklikemer, you take the Fırnaz Pier sign on the way to Yeşilköy after Kalkan. After you see the arch on the hill on the right, you park your vehicle in a suitable place and walk down the path towards the arch. You can reach the arch with a short and easy walk.

Deliklikemer – Historical Aqueduct

You can walk on the belt and sit on it. The taste of watching the olive trees and the Mediterranean view is another. From the photo above, the thickness of the arch made in the form of a spinal cord can be seen more clearly.

Although Kalkan is connected to Kaş, it has surpassed Kaş in terms of the area it covers. It would not be a lie to say that Kalkan is Turkey's rental villa paradise. In the city center of Kalkan, the harbor and the Public Beach are very nice for both walking and eating and drinking. I'm sure it would be nice to watch the sunset too.

Meis Island

In Meis Island, the sound of roosters crowing can be heard from Kaş. Located just 2 kilometers from the Turkish coast, Meis Island is the easternmost point of Greece. The only settlement in Meis is located in Kastellorizo, just opposite Kaş.

It is possible to go to Meis by ferry from Kaş with a Schengen visa or a Greek Islands gate visa. Adding a Greece stop to your Kas trip is a good option.

When to go to the sea in Kaş?

When to go to the sea in Kaş?
When to go to the sea in Kaş?

The season in Kaş opens in the spring and closes on October 29 with very pleasant celebrations. Of course, this does not mean that you cannot swim at any other time. We spent New Year's Eve in Kaş and went swimming, and there were times when we shivered from the cold during the summer months. To give the exact time, you can easily swim in the sea in Kaş between April and October.

If you plan to walk the Lycian Way, which also includes Kaş, the months of April-May or September-October will be ideal. You can spice up this magnificent walking route by taking short sea breaks during your walks.

Kas Beaches

Kas Beaches
Kas Beaches – Kaputas

When coming to Kas, do not expect long beaches, beach clubs or beaches closed by all-inclusive hotels. Kas has none of these. Again comfortable Antalya Kas hotels available. Generally, there are hotels of this type in the city center. You can find very classy boutique hotels. With exceptions, Kaş has beaches that are generally hard to reach, narrow and stony. That's why not everyone comes here, families with children do not prefer it. If you are dreaming of a quiet sea holiday away from the noise, Kas is just for you.

Kaputas Beach

Kaputas Beach
Kaputas Beach

If we say where the most known place of Kas is, I think Kaputaş beach comes to mind before the points in the list of places to visit above. Kaputaş is one of the beaches that you should definitely dive into if you go to Kaş with its natural structure, ice-cold and clean sea, and descent down the stairs.

Located just 200 meters from Kaputaş Beach. Blue Caveis one of the must-see places in this region. You can come here with boat tours, or you can paddle here by renting a canoe from Kaputaş beach.

Blue Cave
Blue Cave

Kaputaş beach, which is so crowded that you will not fall down if you throw a needle in summer, deserves to be visited in summer and winter with its calmness in winter months.

Small and Big Pebble Beach

Big Pebble Beach
Big Pebble Beach

Small and Big Pebble beaches are the most suitable places to swim in the center of Kas. As their names suggest, the beaches with a pebbly coast are very inviting with the Meis view across and the sparkling sea. Small Pebble is closer to the center, Big Pebble is a 15-minute walk from it. There are many hotels and pensions in the area where these pebbles are located.

These are the beaches that I would recommend to those who can swim well with their pebbly and deepening structures.

Derya Beach

Derya Beach
Derya Beach

We will talk about Derya Beach's pizzas in the food and beverage section in Kaş. Before that, this is one of the best places to swim in the city center. It's usually very crowded, it's a good idea to go early and get a seat.

Hidayet Cove

Located 2,5 kilometers from Kaş, Çamada beach is located on the Çukurbağ Peninsula. You don't have to pay the entrance fee for Hidayet Bay, if you want to rent sunbeds and umbrellas, you have to pay it.

Incebogaz Cinar Beach

There is a thin strait connecting the Çukurbağ Peninsula and the mainland of Kaş; Incebogaz. Inceboğaz Beach is the beach with the warmest water in Kaş, as it faces the harbor, not the open sea. There is no entrance fee here, you pay the rent of sunbeds and umbrellas.

Kas Municipality Public Beach

Another beach on Çukurbağ Peninsula is Kaş Municipality Beach. Entry is free here, you have to pay for sunbeds and umbrellas.

Akcagerme Beach

Akçagerme beach, which is located 2 kilometers from the center of Kaş, is a private enterprise. Eating and drinking, sunbeds, umbrellas are available.

Limanagzi Beaches

We said that Limanağzı is one of the regions that preserves its virginity due to the lack of access by land. There are 4 private beaches in this region:

  • Nuri's Beach,
  • Delos Beach,
  • La Moda Beach,
  • Bilal's Place.

You can reach here by blue cruise or daily boats, and minibus boats from Kaş come to Limanağzı for prices like 20 TL.

Patara Beach

Patara Beach
Patara Beach

Patara beach is the longest beach in Kaş and even in Turkey. Although the endless fine sandy beach was very attractive, it was very wavy and windy whenever I went because it was completely open in front. I even remember that we went as a family when I was a kid and all that fine sand got into us because of the wind. Also, a friend of my father made a prank and immersed me in the water. After that, I couldn't put my head under the water for years, so I took diving training to get rid of this fear. Let me wrap up the topic without distracting too much, although Patara beach looks great visually, I prefer to go by boat for swimming or the small beaches of Kaş.

Where is Kas? How to go to Kas?

Kaş is the point where the Mediterranean Region meets the Aegean Region. If you head west from Antalya towards Fethiye, you can find Kaş. It is approximately 200 kilometers from Antalya and 125 kilometers from Fethiye.

How to go to Kas?

You can reach Kas with your private car, bus or plane.

Where is Kas? How to go to Kas?
Where is Kas? How to go to Kas?
  • by vehicle; If you are going with your own vehicle or rental car; Kas is approximately 800 kilometers from Istanbul and 650 kilometers from Ankara. You can reach it between 10-12 hours from Istanbul.
  • By bus; You can reach the big cities Antalya, Muğla and Fethiye by bus. Many bus companies have shuttles. Kaş bus station has been moved far away from the city, as in many other places, and unfortunately, there is no shuttle service from bus companies or bus or minibus options to the city center at the moment. Your only option was a taxi and fixed 50 TL. You have come to Fethiye by any means and if you need to reach Kaş by bus, the last bus from Fethiye to Kaş leaves at 18.00:XNUMX. If you miss it, you have to wait for the next day, so try to pay attention to this time when planning.
  • by air; You can reach Kas from Dalaman or Antalya airports. One of the topics that has been talked about for a while is that an airport close to Kaş will be opened. However, if such a thing happens, I think Kaş will lose all its magic, I hope it is not done.

What to Eat and Where to Eat in Kas?

You can find many eating and drinking options in Kaş, from artisan restaurants to vegan restaurants, from new generation coffee shops to pizzeria. We should not forget the places with beautiful views overlooking the harbor and the taverns that make very good appetizers. All my advice about eating and drinking in Kaş What to eat and where to eat in Kas in my article, click to read.

Where to Stay in Kas?

You can find a wide range of accommodation options in Kaş, from boutique hotels to hostels, from camping areas to rental houses. Let me tell you what you won't find: All-inclusive hotels.

I share a few alternatives for accommodation in Kaş below:

  • Kas Camping: If you ask if there is a place to camp in Kaş, there is. You can stay in tents or bungalows at Kaş Camping on the way from Kaş center to Çukurbağ Peninsula.
  • Hotel Club Phellos ve Ekici Hotel: It is a great advantage that these hotels are right in the center. They were probably pretty cool when they were first made but now they look pretty retro. The rooms are clean, the breakfast buffet is sufficient.
  • Aqua Princess Hotel: This is one of the hotels close to Küçük Çakıl. Within walking distance of the city centre.
  • Pebble Pension: This is one of the hotels close to Küçük Çakıl. Within walking distance of the city centre. This place is somewhere between a hotel and a hostel. Rooms are small but clean and the sea view is beautiful.
  • Villa Dundar: If you want to be a little far from the crowd of Kaş center but you can reach Kaş in 5 minutes, it is located 500 meters from the Big Pebble. Villa DundarYou can choose . It is also perfect for enjoying the pool in the evening against the view.

The above are the hotels I have experienced. Apart from these, you can evaluate Club Antiphellos & Villas on the Çukurbağ Peninsula and many rental villas on the Kalkan side.

Kaş is literally a paradise for history and culture enthusiasts who love to be in touch with nature, seek different activities. Therefore, if you go to Kaş once, you will always go.
