About Sigacik
Sığacık is a really quiet city, or rather a village, that started to make a name for itself after Seferihisar joined the cittaslow movement. With this adventure that started in 2009, the old fishing village suddenly started to move and it became a crowded city, not a quiet one, especially on weekends.
Calm Cities in Turkey Be sure to check out my post.
Sığacık Castle, which was built by Suleiman the Magnificent before his Rhodes expedition, may be looking for its old quiet days with its boutique hotels, hostels, guest houses, cafes and restaurants of different concepts, and the producer's market on Sundays.
Sigacik history If we go into a little more about it; In ancient times, the northern port of Teos Ancient City was built where Sığacık is today. There is talk of a past dating back to 1000 BC. There is nothing left of the North Port today, probably Teos Marina was built instead. The ancient city of Teos, 2 kilometers from the center of Sığacık, still continues its excavation and restoration works.
Where is Sigacik connected? If you say, Sığacık is connected to Seferihisar. Currently, it is a neighborhood of Seferihisar.
Places to Visit in Sığacık
The main questions we need to answer in the Sığacık travel guide are:What are the places to visit in Sığacık, what to do in Sığacık?” Sığacık is actually a small town that you can easily visit in a day. Let me tell you the places you must see one by one:
Sigacik Castle
The most famous place of Sığacık is its castle. Sığacık Castle was built before Suleiman the Magnificent went on his Rhodes expedition. They used this place as a naval base. After the Rhodes expedition, it was used as a customs. Only one floor remains from the castle, which was built as two floors. Since the stones of the ancient city of Teos were used during the construction of the castle walls, it is possible to come across Ionian tablets among the castle walls.
Today, the inside of the castle has been beautifully restored. Almost all the buildings have been painted and overhauled. There are no high-rise buildings. Colorful flowers surrounding one or two-story buildings and cats walking around are the other colors of Sığacık.
Teos Ancient City
The oldest landlords in Sığacık were those living in the Ancient City of Teos. B.C. Teos was one of the 1000 Ionian cities with a history dating back to the 12s. You can reach the ancient city with a 2-kilometer walk or a 3-kilometer car ride from Sığacık.
This is a city spread over a wide area with its acropolis, theatre, temple dedicated to Dynisos, the god of wine, parliament building and ancient port. The ancient port was actually the southern port of the city, the northern port was where Sığacık is today, but nothing remains.
The ancient city is home to mighty olive trees. Umay Granny Tree is one of them. While visiting the ancient city, don't forget to say "hello" to the Umay Granny Tree, right behind the temple.
Teos Ancient City is free with your Museum Card. Since we came from the walking route through Sığacık, we entered the city without going through any toll booths and did not pay any fees. There are booths at the main entrance, if you come from that side you have to buy a ticket or show your Museum Card.
Since we came back from Sığacık on foot, we spent 3-4 hours. If you are going to walk, I suggest you plan with that in mind.
Teos Marina
When you leave the castle in Sığacık, you go to the port where the marina is located. The marina is also where ferries depart for the Greek island of Samos, for when the ferries run. There is a big bazaar just behind the marina, it is open to the public.
Sığacık Kaleici Miniature
They made a huge miniature of Sığacık Kaleiçi in the park behind the bazaar. It was closed when we went but looked very nice if you catch it open. The model, made by the miniature master Nurettin Ataman, is Turkey's largest one-piece miniature with a size of 81 square meters.
Sığacık Kaleiçi Miniature photograph was taken from the address of seyhihisar.bel.tr.
Sigacik Fish Market
If you like fish auctions, after leaving the castle, you will see the fish market where you head towards the ancient city of Teos. There was an auction at 10:30 every morning. Enthusiasts can drop by.
Breadless Nature Park
If you continue towards Teos Ancient City from Sığacık Castle, your path passes through the borders of Ekmeksiz Nature Park. Normally, the nature park is open to visitors between 09:00 in the morning and 19.00:XNUMX in the evening, but after the pandemic and forest fires, it was closed to visitors on my last visit. Ekmeksiz Nature Park is a park where you can go down to the beach through pine forests and have a sparkling beach like an aquarium. If you are going to Sığacık in the summer and you are planning to swim in the sea, I would say that you should definitely add this place to your list.
Sigacik Beaches
I went to Sığacık twice, in spring and autumn. Since I'm not a sea person anyway, I didn't go to the sea in either of them. However, if you want to swim in Sığacık, I have to mention that there are blue flag beaches. Akkum and Ekmeksiz beaches most famous beaches. You can also swim in the Papaz Bosphorus, Taş Ada, Azmak, Aktaşlı and Çamağız regions with daily boat tours.
There is also a diving option for those who love underwater in the area where Club Atlantis is located.
Sigacik Market
The revival that started with the Calm City movement continued increasingly with the producer's market set up on Sundays in Sığacık. The logic of the producer market is that everyone sells their own produce, food, fruit and vegetable at their counter. The main principle is that there is no trading. However, while walking around the market, all the pastries and donuts looked as if they came out of the same counter, I hope that's not the case.
Black mulberry juice is at the top of the list of things to buy from the market. Especially if the weather is hot, an ice-cold black mulberry juice goes very well. Water sold in liter bottles is 15 TL.
Lots of pastries are sold in the market. Herb pie, eggplant pie, potato pie, whatever you look for. However, the pastries I ate unfortunately did not get full marks. I guess people's expectations rise when they are praised so much.
In addition, various jams made by women living in and around Sığacık adorn the stalls. Wraps, stuffed zucchini flowers are the crown of the stalls. Stuffed zucchini flowers only got a passing grade from me, while stuffed leaves with olive oil got full marks.
On the day of the market, the inside of the castle is incredibly crowded. In some narrow streets, you may be too stuck to walk through the crowds. My advice is to come and visit the castle in the early hours of Sunday morning without the crowd. Stalls open on Saturdays, although not as much as on Sundays, so you may want to take your chances on Saturday.

We have dinner, namely raki-fish, our right. No: 17 We used it in the venue named "Saturday", but it was very cramped on Saturday evening, none of the meals were above the standard, and the live music turned to Black Sea music at some point, I never understood why we listen to Black Sea music in the Aegean. Let no one misunderstand, I love the music of the Black Sea, but I did not want to listen to the Black Sea as live music in a place that smells so much of the Aegean.

The operators, who turned an old village house with 6 rooms into a hostel, left the corporate life like me and settled in Sığacık and started to operate this hostel. They serve breakfast in the courtyard of the hostel. There are also beverage services. You will see when you watch the Sığacık video below. We had a very enjoyable time in the courtyard in the evening. Our luck was that we closed all the rooms in the hostel and went as a group. If people we don't know were staying, we probably wouldn't have had so much fun.
