About Çanakkale Victory

Entente forces that want to occupy Istanbul are planning to advance to Istanbul by crossing the Dardanelles. The battle that took place on the Gallipoli Peninsula between 1 and 1914 during the First World War was called the Battle of Çanakkale. The Allied navy, which was stopped by the Nusrat Mine Ship on March 1916, lost blood and stopping the progress of the Allied Powers went down in history as the 18 March Çanakkale Victory.

The Entente states could not pass Çanakkale, could not take Istanbul, the tsarist regime, which was weak in Russia, was overthrown and this victory caused the 1st World War to prolong. This victory, which is also of great importance in world history, not only showed the power and heroism of the Turks to the world once again, but also enabled Mustafa Kemal to show his military success and to come to the fore as a good leader.

“The Çanakkale Victory is an example of marvel and congratulation showing the spiritual power of the Turkish soldier. You must be sure that it is this high spirit that won the Battle of Çanakkale.” M. Kemal ATATURK

General Information About Çanakkale Martyrdom

Çanakkale Martyrs' Cemetery - Akbaş Cemetery
Çanakkale Martyrdoms – Akbaş Cemetery

The main region where the Dardanelles Wars took place is the Gallipoli Peninsula, so the martyrdoms are located on the Marmara Region side of the Dardanelles where the wars took place. Only the Nusrat Minelayer is located on the Aegean side where Çanakkale city center is today.

Çanakkale Martyrs' Cemeteries are located on every hill, every plain, every pass where the Dardanelles Wars took place. For this reason, the martyrdoms are spread over the Gallipoli Peninsula and spread over a wide area. If we consider them as settlements, starting from Küçük Anafarta Village in the North; It covers an area that can be drawn in a wide circle with Small Anafarta and Büyük Anafarta Villages, Bigali Village, Akbaş Bay and its Port, Eceabat, Kilidbahir, Behramlı Village, Seddülbahir Castle, Tekke Bay, Alçıtepe Village, Kabatepe Harbor and Arıburnu.

The name of the place known as Çanakkale Martyrs' Cemetery is actually Çanakkale Martyrs' Monument. This monument, erected on a windy hill overlooking the Dardanelles, in memory of all the martyrs who died in the Dardanelles War, both salutes the ships passing through the Bosphorus and keeps the memory of our martyrs alive. It is not possible for you to understand the spirit there while reading this article, you have to go and look at it from above by imagining the struggle that took place there.

Poem for a Traveler

The poem “To a Traveler”, written by Necmettin Halil Onan, greets those passing through the Dardanelles from Kilitbahir.

Lockbahir
Lockbahir

Stop, passenger! You came unknowingly and stepped on it,
This land is where an era sank.
Bend down and listen, this silent heap,
A homeland is where the heart beats.

At the end of this desolate, shadowless road,
This mound I see is in Anatolia,
For the sake of independence, on the way of honor,
It is the place where Mehmed, who gave his life, sleeps.

This mound, as it ruptures, a great earthquake,
When the last piece of homeland passes,
The flood in which Mehmed drowned the enemy,
It is the place where he poured his blessed blood.

Imagine that you're wasting blood, bone, flesh
This mound he made, relentless, formidable,
At the end of a war, the whole nation,
It is the place where he tastes the pleasure of freedom.

Necmettin Halil Onan

  1. “Anzac Cove and Monument: Every year Australians meet here to commemorate their martyrs.” You wrote as "Martyr", but I recommend you to know what is a Martyr and to correct your article knowing that the deceased Anzac soldiers cannot be martyrs.

  2. Ms. Sevil, you used a map that I prepared, it would be much nicer if you had asked permission on your site. but I looked at your site, it is a useful site for the society, I saw your good intentions, good luck. Companies and individuals for commercial purposes take my programs, photos and maps without asking, no one has a phone on my site, no one asks for permission by saying that they respect the effort. But when it comes to Çanakkale Martyrs, it's not a problem at all. If you give a link to my site called canakkalesehitlerirehberi.com or mention it on your site, our people who will come to visit Çanakkale martyrdoms can obtain much more sincere and accurate information. Kind regards. President of Ertekin Köse Field Guides and Loyalty to Çanakkale Martyrs Association.
